Trey Wingo Presents: Half-Forgotten History

Eagles OL and SB Champ Lane Johnson joins the show from his "creepy horse barn" (his words). He gives an update on his recovery from injury, gives some insight on Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts, and recaps a frustrating season in Philly. Lane's journey from HS QB to junior college to Oklahoma DL to NFL OL is not a conventional one. Now he is adjusting to an unconventional offseason -- new coach, pandemic, recovery from injury. He gives some insight into how the Eagles are looking next year. Then, Lane talks about the magical Super Bowl run with the Eagles, from Carson Wentz going down, to his invention of the dog masks with Chris Long, to the unforgettable upset of Tom Brady's Patriots. We close with Lane talking about the possibility of a future career in professional wrestling, including a callout of an all-time legend.

Former Steelers and Jets OL -- and current Barstool Sports analyst -- Willie Colon joins Trey for this week's episode of Half-Forgotten History. Willie is one of the few NFL players to start out in New York City, and speaking of New York, Trey shares a few epic stories about Willie's idol, Lawrence Taylor. Then, Willie and Trey talk about the next stage of Ben Roethlisberger's career, and how he seems to be enjoying life with the new, less dramatic Steelers. Plus, some memories about what it's like to win a Super Bowl in Pittsburgh, and why losing a Super Bowl is the absolute worst. Plus, Willie talks about why he thinks Mike Tomlin is vastly underrated, mainly because he is "in the business of winning," no matter what personalities have come and gone in the locker room, and explains what it's like to hear a pre-game speech from the man himself. Speaking of personalities, he talks about the change in Antonio Brown in recent years.

Damien Woody went from Beaverdam, VA to Boston College to Super Bowl Champion protecting Tom Brady. How? It seems like it was inevitable now, but the Patriots did seemingly come out of nowhere. Damien tells Trey about his first impressions of Tom Brady as a rookie, explains the differences between Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick, and also shares what it was like to be in the locker room with Drew Bledsoe after an excruciating injury as Tom Brady took over as the Patriots quarterback. And, sorry Raiders fans (it's at 14:00 if you want to skip this part), Damien talks about the Tuck Rule game and punching a ticket to the Super Bowl in a snowstorm -- and how he thought the game was over as the refs were debating one of the most famous calls in history. Then, Damien talks about beating the Rams Greatest Show on Turf in one of the most surprising upsets in the history of the Super Bowl. It was no accident: The Rams were enjoying Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and Bill Belichick had his team focused -- and he had the key to stopping the offense. Plus, Damien and Trey remember how powerful the Patriots full team introduction was.

Ryan Clark came a long way from undrafted free agent to Super Bowl Champ to ESPN analyst. After LSU, he went to the Giants, then Washington, where Ryan played alongside the legendary Sean Taylor. He talks about Taylor's fearlessness at training camp and his incredible trash-talk, plus his private persona and the unwarranted media storm that came after his death. Then, Ryan talks about overcoming sickle cell, and shares an absolutely terrifying story about a spleen injury in Denver. (It gets a bit intense around the 15:00 mark.) Next, Trey and Ryan reminisce about the start of Ryan's media career, which all started with a tweet. As if playing with Sean Taylor weren't enough, Ryan left Washington to play with Troy Polamalu in Pittsburgh, where he got to see #43's uncanny anticipation up close. Plus, he got to add his stamp to the greatest rivalry in the NFL this century: Ravens-Steelers, including what he describes as the biggest play of his career.

Trey is joined by two-time Super Bowl Champ Chris Long, who left the St. Louis Rams to win with the Patriots and Eagles in consecutive years. Chris talks about where he was when he found out he'd been selected by the Rams -- not the usual place -- and what it was like to toil in St. Louis alongside some favorite teammates like James Laurinaitis, Steven Jackson and Sam Bradford. Then, Chris talks about why he chose to break the news of where he planned to sign as a free agent with Trey instead of Schefter or even PMT. Finally, Chris talks about the incredible run the Eagles went on without Carson Wentz to win the Super Bowl against his former team, the Patriots.

Pro Football Hall of Famer (and College Football Hall of Famer... and, as he reminds us, High School Hall of Famer) Ed Reed joins Trey for another Super Bowl-themed episode of Half-Forgotten History. First, they reminisce about the U, including Ed Reed's notorious halftime speeches, and his amazing touchdown against Boston College. Then, Ed talks about playing alongside other huge personalities in Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs and his favorite interceptions (and touchdowns). Plus, he breaks down his interception of Peyton Manning that Bill Belichick once called "the best play" he ever saw a free safety ever make. Then, Ed takes us through the Ravens' magical Super Bowl run in the '12-'13 season, including the wild upset over Peyton Manning's Denver Broncos and one of the most memorable title games in history.
