Jesus came to bring redemption to our hearts, revelation to our minds, and resurrection to our bodies. In order for us to become fully alive, we must first become fully aware. “Nearly all wisdom we possess, that is to say, true and sound wisdom, consists of two parts: the knowledge of God and the knowledge of ourselves.” John Calvin PERSONALIZING THE PROBLEMS It is your woundedness and wickedness that keeps you from full deliverance. Heart – struggles with various forms of shame. (2s, 3s, 4s) • “If I stop pushing my image, then I’ll be found worthless.” • You crave approval and affection. Mind – struggles with various forms of fear. (5s, 6s, 7s) • “I will sink if I don’t keep swimming.” • You crave security and survival. Body – struggles with various forms of anger. (8s, 9s, 1s) • “If I let my guard down, I’ll be annihilated.” • You crave power and justice. Galatians 5:16-21 – Wicked works of the flesh. • Heart – pride, deceit, envy • Mind – greed, fear, gluttony • Body – lust, sloth, anger Galatians 5:22-26 – Righteous fruit of the Spirit. • Heart – faithfulness, gentleness, joy • Mind – love, peace, self-control • Body – goodness, kindness, patience PERSONALIZING THE PRACTICES Your Christian life will be that of frustration, if you are not intentional with spiritual formation. Intentionally integrate your heart, mind, and body to the way of Jesus. • Heart – You are what you love. • Mind – What you think does more than you think. • Body – What you do shapes what you love. LOVING GOD – GOD TIME AND GATHER TIME God Time Silence + Solitude Fasting Sabbath Prayer Gather Time Worship Service Giving Communion LOVING OTHERS – GROUP TIME AND GO TIME Group Time Fellowship Bible Study Confession Conflict Resolution Go Time Hospitality Evangelism Peace Making Disciple Making Commit to Daily and Weekly, Feasting and Releasing Practices Daily Feasting Practice: Daily Releasing Practice: Weekly Feasting Practice: Weekly Releasing Practice: 5 Lessons Learned About The Practices of Jesus Trying to behave like Jesus leads to death. Training to become like Jesus leads to life. The practices are not removal to get approval. They are making space for God’s grace. Grace isn’t anti-practice. Grace is anti-performance. Our practices have the power to forecast our future. Dwelling on God’s love for me keeps the practices from drudgery.
