338: Freestyle Friday | Three Lessons from Coach Brandon
In this episode of Freestyle Friday, with your host Travis Chappell, he commemorates his high school basketball coach who recently passed away by sharing three lessons he learned from Coach Brandon. Episode Highlights: Family is everything. Consistency is the thing that leads to success. There are no excuses or exceptions to putting in the work. No matter your connections and privileges, you should still face consequences. 3 Key Points: Family is the most important thing, and your actions should reflect this. Being consistent with your routines and attaching it to what you love and care about will lead to greater respect and success. You can learn a lot just through observing others’ behavior. Tweetable Quotes: “When things didn’t make sense to me with authority figures, I had a way of getting under their skin through sarcasm & being annoying. Obviously that translated into becoming an entrepreneur because I could never stand working for anybody.” –Travis Chappell Resources Mentioned: Get your tickets for Travis new live event in Vegas at http://www.bynlive.com/ (www.bynlive.com) Shop easy, with smartly designed men’s clothes by Mack Weldon at http://www.macwheldon.com/ (www.macwheldon.com) and use promo code “travis” at checkout for 20% off Learn how to network at events at http://www.travischappell.com/yes (www.travischappell.com/yes) Visit Travis’ website at http://www.buildyournetwork.co/ (Buildyournetwork.co) Join the Build Your Network Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/byncommunity/ (BYN.media/fb) Join the Build Your Network University Facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fgroups%2Fbynuniversity (byn.university) Leave a rating and review for the Build Your Network Podcast on https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/build-your-network/id1268488944 (iTunes) Watch Travis’ free masterclass on how to build the network of your dreams at https://threenetworkingsecrets.com/webinar-registration30876682 (threenetworkingsecrets.com) Download the Himalaya App in the https://apps.apple.com/us/app/podcast-audio-player-himalaya/id1275493456 (App Store) or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ximalaya.ting.himalaya&hl=en_US (Google Play) For information regarding your data privacy, visit https://www.acast.com/privacy (acast.com/privacy)Check out FranBridge Consulting for premier non-food franchise opportunities: travischappell.com/franbridgeOur Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com Learn more about your ad choices. 337: Topic | Mindset Shift with David Meltzer, Trent Shelton, and Tim Storey
David Meltzer, author of Connected to Goodness; Trent Shelton, author of The Greatest You; and life coach Tim Storey share with your host, Travis Chappell, their thoughts on "who you know" and "what you know." Episode Highlights: David Meltzer If you’re doing something you don’t enjoy, you can still derive purpose out of it in order to cultivate passion for it. If you don’t understand what’s going on, try to understand it and put faith into what you want out of the situation. Trent Shelton Once he realized that motivational speaking was his passion, he reached out to coaches to improve his skills and dove right into video creation. Being consistent results in people trusting you and results in shareability of your content. Consistency also means you will inevitably grow and get better at what you do. Tim Storey Don’t focus so much on making choices and decisions that you close yourself off from discovery. People often know they’re going to be successful, but the question is how you will get there and where you’ll end up, which is where discovery comes in. Some confidence is innate, but the other factors are environmental. 3 Key Points: Learning what you want and finding your passion and purpose will inspire others, who will do the same and inspire more people, creating a chain of impact. Consistency is the most necessary ingredient in whatever you do. Confidence is both innate and cultivated by your environment. Tweetable Quotes: “It’s what we infuse light into. It’s how we find the light. In fact, if you hate somebody or you disagree with someone, the easiest thing to do is find a light, find something you do like about them, look for the positive side.” –David Meltzer “Consistency means reliable, and when you’re reliable you become trustworthy.” –Trent Shelton “Even if it’s not innate, if you’re shy, if you’re the kid that was bullied, get you around the right environment and we’re gonna get the right results.” –Tim Storey Resources Mentioned: https://www.amazon.com/Greatest-You-Reality-Release-Negativity/dp/1400207932/ref=sr_1_1?gclid=Cj0KCQjwivbsBRDsARIsADyISJ-6f3OzTaaE3Ff_-GzzVNTjnZ1rwoysTkRis1q0bK3-mpd2WCvc20waAnTWEALw_wcB&hvadid=338594250904&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9067609&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t2&hvqmt=e&hvrand=2623479051164033973&hvtargid=aud-646675774026%3Akwd-661269659921&hydadcr=8322_9904443&keywords=trent+shelton+the+greatest+you&qid=1570676043&sr=8-1 (The Greatest You) by Trent Shelton https://www.davemeltzer.com/ (https://www.davemeltzer.com/) https://www.trentshelton.com/home (https://www.trentshelton.com/home) https://www.timstorey.com/ (https://www.timstorey.com/) Visit Travis’ website at http://www.buildyournetwork.co/ (Buildyournetwork.co) Learn more about mentorships and masterminds for FREE at http://www.freemmcourse.com/join (freemmcourse.com/enroll) Get your tickets for Travis new live event in Vegas at http://www.bynlive.com/ (www.bynlive.com) Download the Himalaya App in the https://apps.apple.com/us/app/podcast-audio-player-himalaya/id1275493456 (App Store) or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ximalaya.ting.himalaya&hl=en_US (Google Play) Get more free content from Travis at http://threenetworkingsecrets.com/ (threenetworkingsecrets.com) For information regarding your data privacy, visit https://www.acast.com/privacy (acast.com/privacy)Check out FranBridge Consulting for premier non-food franchise opportunities: travischappell.com/franbridgeOur Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com Learn more about your ad choices. 336: Sam Bakhtiar | How to Build a Nine Figure Fitness Empire From Scratch
Sam Bakhtiar is the founder of Fitness Concepts, now a multi-million dollar business. He is also a competitive bodybuilder and car enthusiast. Sam shares how he has rebounded from failure, how he commits to his fitness and success, and the importance of persuasion. Episode Highlights: You don’t get any off hours when you’re an entrepreneur, but you’re the one in charge and calling the shots. You need to hire someone to hold you accountable and push you when you’re an entrepreneur because you don’t have a boss to do that. It took Sam 10 years to make his first $1 million, and then only 6 months to earn his second million. Early in his business, he actually faced foreclosure and bankruptcy in the face of the 2008 financial crisis. Sam has had to master the skill of delaying gratification. Money is like bodybuilding, in that you can lose gains just as quickly as you make them. His main avenue for investing is real estate, particularly flipping apartments. Sam believes who you know is more important than what you know. Seeking out new people is uncomfortable, and it’s easier to stay behind your computer and do things yourself, so you have to make it a priority. Sam gives everybody a chance, but he doesn’t give unlimited chances, which allows the most impactful people in his circle to stick around. Commitment is freedom and discipline is happiness. Humans are programmed to be negative, so we have to rewire ourselves to be positive in a more automatic, habitual way. All entrepreneurs need to build their skills in copywriting, persuasion, and marketing. Random Round: a quick series of random questions to get to know Sam. 3 Key Points: Giving up something now for something greater later is a skill and a muscle that needs to be developed. If you treat people transactionally, you’ll get transactional results. Persuasion is not a negative thing, it’s necessary for business success. Tweetable Quotes: “What’s the best thing that can happen and what’s the worst thing that can happen? If you can live with the worst thing that can happen, then you should go for it.” –Sam Bakhtiar “If something makes your heart happy, as long as you’re not being a dumb investor, you’re not doing dumb things with your money, there’s nothing wrong with that. At the end of the day you have to be happy.” –Sam Bakhtiar Resources Mentioned: Sam Bakhtiar: https://sambakhtiar.com/ (Website), https://www.instagram.com/sambakhtiar/?hl=en (Instagram), https://twitter.com/fitnessconcepts?lang=en (Twitter), https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_z9K2VaB3DNBxxyzkoIIjw (Youtube) https://www.amazon.com/What-When-Talk-Your-Self/dp/1501171992 (What To Say When You Talk to Yourself) https://www.amazon.com/Influence-Psychology-Persuasion-Robert-Cialdini/dp/006124189X (Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion) Visit Travis’ website at http://www.buildyournetwork.co/ (Buildyournetwork.co) Join the Build Your Network Facebook group http://www.buildyournetwork.co/fb/ (BYN.media/fb) Join the Build Your Network University Facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/bynuniversity (byn.university). 335: Freestyle Friday | Tips to Maximize Events
On this Freestyle Friday, Travis talks about the upcoming Build Your Network Live event and ways you can maximize your experience at the event. Episode Highlights: Build Your Network Live will prioritize connection over content. Topgolf games during lunch are included. The venue has sunlight, so you won’t be holed up in a windowless conference room for seven hours. There is a low speaker to attendee ratio, allowing you to make connections. VIP tickets are sold out, but general admission is still available and only costs $99. If you are dissatisfied at the end of the event, Travis will refund you double the cost of the ticket. Once you’re registered, look up the speakers and other attendees using Travis’ Facebook group. Prepare a system for follow-ups after the event. Especially if you’re an introvert, stand in a high-traffic area and let people come to you. Key Points: BYN Live is a different type of event that will allow you to form meaningful connections. You need open body language to attract connections. Tweetable Quotes: “This is going to be the biggest bang for your buck in terms of what a live event can offer for you.” –Travis Chappell Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at http://www.buildyournetwork.co/ (Buildyournetwork.co) Join the Build Your Network Facebook group http://www.buildyournetwork.co/fb/ (BYN.media/fb) Join the Build Your Network University Facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/bynuniversity (byn.university). 334: Topic | Who or What Part Seven with Matt Manero, Evan Stewart, and Jeff Hoffman
Matt Manero, author of “You Need More Money”, Evan Stewart, a 25-year-old luxury real estate developer, and Jeff Hoffman, founder of Priceline.com, share with your host, Travis Chappell, their thoughts on "who you know" and "what you know." Episode Highlights: Matt Manero It starts with “what” and moves into “who,” because you won’t be on a big “Who’s” radar unless you have excellence in a “what.” Ultimately though, it comes down to who you know. If you want to get out of a conversation with someone who isn’t beneficial to you, just say that it’s been a pleasure talking, and then walk away. Evan Stewart Who you know is more important. To break into a higher real estate budget level it was all about who he knew and who his clients were referring him to. Education is what you can do to compensate for lack of experience; if you can’t say you have ten years’ experience, you need something else to lean on. Jeff Hoffman Nobody is great at twelve things, so you need other people in your network to round out your team to accomplish big things. Schedule days where you aren’t in the office doing work, but are out in the world growing your network. People who claim they’re too busy to network could solve the problem of being too busy by networking and finding people to build a team to take things off their plate. 3 Key Points: You need a level of competency in what you do, but you won’t get better at what you do without who you know. Schedule time in your calendar specifically for networking. Use networking to find people whose skills fill in the gaps of what you don’t know. Tweetable Quotes: “Excellence in what will not allow you to reach your potential unless you have excellence in who. And excellence in who will not work unless you have excellence in what.” –Matt Manero “Everybody says you’re full of crap because you’re in your twenties until you do tens of millions of dollars in sales, and all of a sudden nobody cares how old you are because they know you do your job.” –Evan Stewart “No big accomplishment in the world was ever accomplished by one person. You really are limited by the strength of your network or the weakness of it.” –Jeff Hoffman Resources Mentioned: https://www.amazon.com/You-Need-More-Money-Financial/dp/0735216983 (You Need More Money) by Matt Manero Matt Manero’s http://www.mattmanero.com/ (website) | https://twitter.com/MattManero (Twitter) Evan Stewart’s https://twitter.com/CompassEvan (Twitter) | https://www.facebook.com/CompassEvan/ (Facebook) | https://www.instagram.com/CompassEvan/ (Instagram) Jeff Hoffman’s http://jeffhoffman.com/ (Website) | https://twitter.com/speakerjeff (Twitter) | https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffhoff/ (Linkedin) Visit Travis’ website at http://www.buildyournetwork.co/ (Buildyournetwork.co) Learn more about mentorships and masterminds for FREE at http://www.freemmcourse.com/join (freemmcourse.com/enroll) Get your tickets for Travis new live event in Vegas at http://www.bynlive.com/ (www.bynlive.com) Download the Himalaya App in the https://apps.apple.com/us/app/podcast-audio-player-himalaya/id1275493456 (App Store) or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ximalaya.ting.himalaya&hl=en_US (Google Play) Get more free content from Travis at https://www.acast.com/privacy (acast.com/privacy)Check out FranBridge Consulting for premier non-food franchise opportunities: travischappell.com/franbridgeOur Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com Learn more about your ad choices. 305: Freestyle Friday | 3 Things You Need In Order to Start a Podcast
In this episode of Freestyle Friday with your host Travis Chappell, he discusses a subject that means a lot to him for obvious reasons: podcasting. He shares the three things that you need to start a podcast. Be sure to stick around for the bonus fourth step for success as well. Episode Highlights: Travis Chappell introduces the topic of podcasting. Why do you need a ‘blue ocean’ for your podcast? What does ‘blue ocean’ mean as it pertains to podcasts? What type of mic does Travis use for his podcast? Be into your podcast for the long-term. You should get a coach when you start a podcast. 3 Key Points: Niches can become too specific to the point that they become limiting. Use minimal equipment for your podcast. Having a successful podcast takes patience. Tweetable Quotes: “You need a blue ocean. A lot of other people will say it is your avatar, it's your ideal listener, it's your niche, whatever name you want to give it.” – Travis Chappell (Microphone) “This setup that you are looking at right here is just an ATR2100 USB from Audio Technica.” – Travis Chappell “The goal is to monetize quickly, and that is true. But not to the point where that is your only goal from the beginning.” – Travis Chappell Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at http://www.buildyournetwork.co/ (Buildyournetwork.co) Join the Build Your Network Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/byncommunity/ (BYN.media/fb) Join the Build Your Network University Facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fgroups%2Fbynuniversity (byn.university) Leave a rating and review for the Build Your Network Podcast on https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/build-your-network/id1268488944 (iTunes) Watch Travis’ free masterclass on how to build the network of your dreams at https://threenetworkingsecrets.com/webinar-registration30876682 (threenetworkingsecrets.com) Get equity-free investments from Clearbanc at https://www.20mintermsheet.com/?utm_source=travis&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=pod2 (clearbanc.com/travis) Try ZipRecruiter for free at https://www.ziprecruiter.com/byn (ziprecruiter.com/byn) Download the Himalaya App in the https://apps.apple.com/us/app/podcast-audio-player-himalaya/id1275493456 (App Store) or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ximalaya.ting.himalaya&hl=en_US (Google Play) For information regarding your data privacy, visit https://www.acast.com/privacy (acast.com/privacy)Check out FranBridge Consulting for premier non-food franchise opportunities: travischappell.com/franbridgeOur Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com Learn more about your ad choices. 304: Topic | Top Networking Tips Part 1 with Mark Wade, Brendan Kane, and David Meltzer
During this episode, you will have access to some top-level networking advice from three highly experienced gentlemen: Dr. Mark Wade, Chief Scaling Officer at HustleandScale.com and the Creator of Virtual Summits Software, Brendan Kane, Author of OneMillionFollowers.comand Growth Hacker at Katie Couric Media, and David Meltzer CEO and Co-Founder of Sports 1 Marketing, Executive Producer & Judge of Entrepreneur Elevator Pitch and Host of The Playbook Podcast. Dr. Mark Wade, Brendan Kane, and David Meltzer share their advice for better relationship-building, how not to be that annoying person at industry events, and why you need to be adding value first and foremost. Episode Highlights: Travis Chappell introduces the accomplishments of Dr. Mark Wade, Brendan Kane, and David Meltzer. Why is networking so important to Dr. Mark Kane? Relationships should be a value exchange. What awkward experiences has Mark gone through with other people? How did Brendan Kane get started in the entertainment industry? How has making connections led to a bigger career opportunity? Brendan shares how he connected with Taylor Swift. Why does Brendan hate the term ‘networking?’ Think before you speak. David Meltzer shares the two most important questions to ask for relationship-building. Does David believe that who you know is more important than what you know? Is there a way that rubs David the wrong way when people try to connect with him? What are the four ways to network? 3 Key Points: Always be relationship building and building upwards beyond your level. Networking is about providing value to someone, not extracting something out of them. Put faith in the future instead of putting faith in the past. Tweetable Quotes: “You are either adding value or you are not.” – Dr. Mark Wade “Everything I do is connections-based. It is how I have had success over the course of my career, forging strong connections and providing value to those connections.” – Brendan Kane “There are two questions to build a relationship, one: starting with ‘how can I be of service? Provide value. Two: ask for help. Do you know anyone who can help me with this?” – David Meltzer Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at http://www.buildyournetwork.co/ (Buildyournetwork.co) Join the Build Your Network Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/byncommunity/ (BYN.media/fb) Join the Build Your Network University Facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fgroups%2Fbynuniversity (byn.university) Leave a rating and review for the Build Your Network Podcast on https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/build-your-network/id1268488944 (iTunes) Watch Travis’ free masterclass on how to build the network of your dreams at https://threenetworkingsecrets.com/webinar-registration30876682 (threenetworkingsecrets.com) Get equity-free investments from Clearbanc at https://www.20mintermsheet.com/?utm_source=travis&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=pod2 (clearbanc.com/travis) Try ZipRecruiter for free at https://www.ziprecruiter.com/byn (ziprecruiter.com/byn) Download the Himalaya App in the https://apps.apple.com/us/app/podcast-audio-player-himalaya/id1275493456 (App Store) or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ximalaya.ting.himalaya&hl=en_US (Google Play) Dr. Mark Wade:Check out FranBridge Consulting for premier non-food franchise opportunities: travischappell.com/franbridgeOur Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com Learn more about your ad choices. 303: Joel Marion Part 2 | $0 to $100 Million in Sales in ONE Year?
This is the second part of the interview with Joel Marion, the co-founder and CMO of BioTrust Nutrition, with over $600 million in sales. In this section, Joel Marion shares how he transitioned from teaching in high school into the business that he runs now, how he connected with some of the top marketers in his space to achieve his many magnificent milestones, and how he scaled his supplement company from zero dollars to $100 million in sales in the first full calendar year. Joel also grew his email list from zero to 20 million subscribers, and an additional one up to 3 million subscribers. Episode Highlights: Travis Chappell introduces the accomplishments of Joel Marion. What are the best practices for building a large email list? How do you create a good lead magnet? Scale happens from cracking the ‘viral’ code or by paying for traffic. What is more important: what you know or who you know? Joel Marion got to know the top 20 vendors on ClickBank in his category. Be a likable person and work your way into important people’s lives by adding value. Many members of Joel’s business circle have transitioned into personal friends. What other professions would Joel like to get into? If he could talk to anyone, dead or alive, who would Joel want to talk to? How does he like to consume content? Study what is working. About 8 years ago, Joel made between $5,000-$6,000 per email send for his supplements with an email list of over $200,000. Does Joel have a morning routine? Joel says he is good at making a list of things that will move the needle and getting them crossed off. What is his go-to pump-up songs? Is there something that Joel feels he is not good at? 3 Key Points: Nobody is signing up for a free newsletter at this point. It is way oversaturated. Business is all relationships. You even have to build relationships with your customers. The launch of Joel’s health and fitness product led to becoming the largest launch in fitness history at that time, doing $350,000-$450,000. Tweetable Quotes: “Nobody wants to be on another email list. Period. But, if you’ve got a good enough ‘ethical bribe’ on the front and a ‘lead magnet’ then people will still give you their email address.” – Joel Marion “I knew the business that I was getting into, which was healthy and fitness publishing. So, I went to the largest marketplace for health and fitness publishers, which was ClickBank, ClickBank.com.” – Joel Marion “Your knowledge is useless unless you have people to support that.” – Joel Marion Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at http://www.buildyournetwork.co/ (Buildyournetwork.co) Join the Build Your Network Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/byncommunity/ (BYN.media/fb) Join the Build Your Network University Facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fgroups%2Fbynuniversity (byn.university) Leave a rating and review for the Build Your Network Podcast on https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/build-your-network/id1268488944 (iTunes) Watch Travis’ free masterclass on how to build the network of your dreams at https://threenetworkingsecrets.com/webinar-registration30876682 (threenetworkingsecrets.com) Get equity-free investments from Clearbanc at https://www.20mintermsheet.com/?utm_source=travis&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=pod2 (clearbanc.com/travis) Try ZipRecruiter for free at https://www.acast.com/privacy (acast.com/privacy)Check out FranBridge Consulting for premier non-food franchise opportunities: travischappell.com/franbridgeOur Sponsors:* Check out Kinsta: https://kinsta.com Learn more about your ad choices. 302: Freestyle Friday | How to Have Clarity in Your Goals
In this episode of Freestyle Friday, your host Travis Chappell talks about how to get clarity in your goals. When was the last time you sat down and made sure you were still on track to hit your goals? Learn why it’s important to recalibrate early and often. Episode Highlights: You have to ask yourself whether your goals are important to you. Take the time to ask yourself four questions: What’s the truth about where you are? Write down your one-year goals. Write down why these goals are important. Write down the capabilities you need in order to achieve your goals. You need to be aware that you may not currently be the person who can achieve your goals. Start on the trajectory you want to be on even if it doesn’t make sense in the here and now. Be honest with yourself when you set your goals. The more clarity you have in your life the more fulfilled you will be. 3 Key Points: Know the truth about where you are with your goals right now.
