This week on Trapping Across America we have Ryan Schaefer from the great state of Louisiana. Just like always he is fired up, a ball of energy and fun to listen to. We are talking about mink, otter and beaver trapping. Ryan mage an epic mink catch last year with only a few dozen traps. I think he has got this mink trapping down with BMI body grip traps. In the middle of everything, we get into how trappers can catch more fur. You do not want to mis this trapping radio podcast. It’s educational and over the top entertaining with Ryan.

This week on Trapping radio we cover one method that allows a coyote trapper to trap and catch more coyote per farm, ranch or even per mile. Coyote location is the big part of trapping coyotes with results. Coyote locations are not a static place in the wood or on a farm. A coyote location needs to be on a coyote travel way. This only makes sense Right? Sure it does. What a good coyote trapper has to learn is to make sure the …….coyote location is on a…..active coyote travel way. This is very different from slamming in traps on every road intersection you come across on your trap line.We also look at the fur market. The last North America Fur Auction was weak. No that is not right, it sucked for a lot of trappers and some fur prices were lower than most of us thought. Lets look at this from a trappers mindset that can still make money from his or her trapping.

This week on Trapping Across America we have the one and only Jeff Dunlap. A professional trapper from Michigan. He not only traps for a living, he has a lure line and several dvd’s on the market. Jeff is a good friend of mine, so I take some liberties cutting up with him. We talk about the fur market and fur prices. Freedom Brand FB2 dog proof traps and otter trapping with footholds. This year Jeff Dunlap started working in a lot of foot hold traps into his otter trapping and his otter size and catch size increased. We also learn more Dunlap words of wisdom.

This week on Trapping Radio we are covering a lot of topics. I am going through some of the trapping questions that have been emailed to me. We talk about trapping coyotes in the summer. This is very different than trapping during the fall with pup coyotes running all over the place. You can not force a coyote to do anything, and this goes double in the summer. You location will also change for coyote trapping, because the coyote are making a living in a different way. Making bait stations for coyotes, this is also different is warm weather. The we look at a ADC business plan and the difference between dogless and regular dog style traps.Hope to see everyone in PA. There will not be show next week. This week I started out with an idea of were we would go with the show, but did not happen. I received a letter from C. R. from AR. He is 14 years old and says he IS GOING TO BE a professional trapper….How cool is that! He asked me some questions about professional trapping. The more I got into the subject, it took over the show. I was going to spend most of the time on coyote locations and coyote travel ways. Well, I guess that will have to wait till next week

This Week on Trapping Radio we are talking to Jeff and Greg from IL about trapping, coyotes, putting up fur and portable pockets. All trappers have a story and that what makes the game of trapping so cool. Some start because the kid comes from a trapping family and some trappers start life as a outdoorsmen. Both jeff and Greg have been in this game for a while and both look at the trap line from different points of view. It is an entertaining show to say the least.

These are my thoughts on lures and baits. How and why to use them. Some of the lure maker greats. What is a call lure in the Bill Nelson understanding. We go over LDC or long distance call lures, gland lures, beaver food and castor lures, otter lures. I am not the end all on this subject, but I have studied them in great detail. This week on Trapping Across America we are looking into how to prepare traps at the end or the beginning of the trapping season. So if you new to trapping or have only used one trap prep method for years, we hope some of the info we go into tonight will help you out or maybe get you thinking about why you dye, wax, paint or dip your traps. To me the reason we treat or traps is to keep them working, strong and in good shape. We also cover how or what you do with trapping lure, bait, scent, fish oil and urine at the end of the year. How do you keep fresh urine fresh. How long does lure of bait last? Sun and heat are the enemy!

This week we are looking back at the trapping season. I learned some things and hope somewhere down the road they will help you out on your trap line. Have you every had coyotes, not work your trap sets. Sometimes the coyotes will not been at the classic trap locations. What will you do, first off you need to figure out if they are under pressure. This pressure may or may not have anything to due with trapping. We had a slow year in Texas this year, we also look into some of the reasons why this happened. Before Texas, I go into one thing I could have and should have done with the Ice I was having to deal with on my otter and beaver lines.

This week on Trapping Across America we are looking at the down and dirty reality of out-of-state trapping. What it is like, what you should know and what are some of the mistake trappers make. Out of state trapping is fun and exciting, but no matter how fun it is, reality has a way of creeping into the trip.

This week on Trapping Radio we are down in Texas. The show is recorded as is with nothing but raw content as we talk to students from our trapping school. We are hard at work setting traps and catching coyotes and bobcats. As you can tell we have fun down here, trappers should always have fun when we get together. We hope to have another show next week, but the trapping comes first and internet is hard to come by down here on the border.

I bounce all over the place on this topic, my goal is to get you to think about what the purpose is, if you take control of your income. The kind of business we are discussing is building revenue streams, not the one big monster business most guys think about, but find to big a mountain to climb.

his Week on Trapping Radio we are going to look at why you need to turn your trapping into a real business. Having a business gives you a massive advantage over a trapper that has to pay all of his trapping expenses with after tax income. You might be surprised to find out that you may have $5,000 to $ 50,000 of tax-free money you can’t take advantage of if you treating your trapping like a business. We will look into what the government is planning on doing and if you are not covering your back side. You might find yourself working for years to pay off a IRS bill. Don’t be this guy. The rules for money are set up for a business, not a hobby. Our world is changing, so get into the game of being a profitable trapper.

This week on Trapping Across America we are looking into our current fur market. I’m sure you have heard about prices being high and low all at the same time. The rumors are spreading like wild-fire. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I have spent some time digging around and talking to some fur buyers. You have options when you sell your fur, it is your product, not a fur buyers. We will also get into how a trapper can let the fur market work for them, not the other way around. So if you think you have to sell fur at any low price, I hope I can change your mind. The fur market is a powerful tool if a trapper thinks about the future and not always in the present.

This week on Trapping Radio we are going to get into the true secret of trapping better than you are right now. You may be thinking it is a trapping location, a certain set, magic lure or bait or the perfect trapping system. Not so, the true secret to being a better trapper is your brain, how you think and the will to be better. I must warn you, this is not a normal Trapping Radio show. If you are the right person, this show will make perfect sense, if you’re not ready for it, you may not like it. We will be talking about the Fur Market next week, so it will be more of a normal style show. If you like this topic let me know, if not let me know. There is more to trapping to than setting sets and sometimes they are interesting to get into.

He has a system that nails coyotes and fox, we get into his coyote and fox locations, coyote and fox trap sets, plus his trapping systems. We also get into other trapping topics like trapping out of state, and the fur market. As you will see, Randy is a professional professional.

This Week on Trapping Across America we are looking at how we are trained to think as adults and why this way of thinking can hurt your trapping. Most of us want to do what we are told to think. Like where is the right place to put a trap at a coyote set? Where does the trap go on a raccoon set out on the water or a pocket set? You have a trap placement in mind, but why, where did you get your ideas from? have you challenged these ideas.Most trapping is done with the grown up adult way of thinking. Sounds right, but this way of thinking does not leave a lot of room for discovering the things out on your own trap line. Kids discover for the sake of discovery, you want to be a better trapper, you should really be open to discovery. You might find that little kid that has to ask why and why not. Discovery is the key to find better and faster ways to trap. I will be talking about something that I have been playing around, ….the Portable Pocket. It has opened my eyes.

This week on Trapping Across America we have the one and only Jeff Dunlap with us. We are talking about the internet, the bad side and the good side of how it is part of trapping today. The bottom line, we as trappers can and should use social media platforms and forums to help each other, not attack and demean other trappers. We have PETA for that already. If you do not want your wife, mom or grandmother to see your ranting, maybe some thought should be put into your post before you hit enter. Next I get to talk to Jeff about his trapping and road trapping in Louisiana. Note from Clint….we are not calling any trapper schizophrenic, a socialist or bitter. We are talking about the thought process that comes across on-line. We are not talking about ……a single person or a single trapper. So don’t jump to a conclusion that is not based off of facts.

He thought this would be interesting to do, so he could ask me questions about what it was like for me becoming a professional trapper. For years Norm thought I had money somehow when I got started, boy was he mistaken. Becoming a pro trapper is different for everyone, for me it was by the skin of my teeth. One thing I was sure of, I was going to make it, security be damned. So if you are struggling to make your dream come true, it may suck sometimes, but worth every bowl of Ramen you have to eat.

This Week on Trapping Across America we have the trapping machine Brandon Johnson. We were together on a control job while we were filming Trapping TV in the south. One night after everything got quite I talked him into giving us an interview for Trapping Radio. A lot of you have seen some of his catch photo’s on Facebook and other places. It is impressive to say the least. Brandon is from Ohio, but state hops to keep piling up fur. He is known for a raccoon, beaver and otter trapper, but I can tell you from being with him, he can catch what ever he targets. I think you get a kick out of this interview, I hope it fires up some guys to copy Brandon work ethic.

This week on Trapping Radio we have Mike Kemble with us. Who is Mike? Well he is a trapper that traps in Ohio and other states for coyotes, bobcats, raccoon, muskrats, otter and beaver. Besides that, he took a world record 8 point whitetail deer. He is also the producer for our new project Trapping TV. We talk about this in detail tonight along with how to put traps on animals.

This week on Trapping Across America we have Chuck Welden from AL. Chuck is a trapper. He sets traps when he has time mostly on his on farm and for other land owners around his county. He has more experience with beaver and is now learning the predator side of the game. I have been down to his farm three times now having a lot of fun and going over the finer points of catching coyotes, raccoon and otter. We have Chuck on tonight for not only talking about trapping, but as a land owner. If you want to trap on quality farms with more up-scale owners, you have to understand them and what makes them tick. What makes Chuck tick? That would take hours, but we do get him to open up from the point of view of a landowner that manages his property from deer, turkey, quail and fish.

How to find a place to skin and all that goes along with out of state trapping. We also talk about a lesion that I was taught again this year. Be set up for what you are trapping at the moment. This week on Trapping Across America we have Sam Pole from Virginia. Sam is a great guy to talk too. He has been around the block a few times. He traps in the urban areas around his home in VA. He was trained and was friends with the trapping legend Charlie Dobbins. He fur traps and runs a neat ADC business with the most of his work being beaver. Sam uses the Hancock live beaver trap in a way I have never heard of before. Very interesting indeed. Kick back, grab a cold one or a steaming mug of coffee and enjoy!

This week on Trapping Across America we have the one and only Opossum Skinner from the great southern state of Virginia. If you have been to very many trapping conventions you have meet Mr. Skinner. He is the southerner guy that is always smiling, having fun and sharing his trapping stories to who ever will listen to him. He is a easy guy to talk with, but if you really listen past the humor, you will figure out real quick that he is a hard core trapper that understands the game of trapping. I always enjoy talking trapping with him, because he thinks outside of the box and understands animals and uses this thought process when he is setting steel.

Jeff Dunlap and Sarah Gomez join Chris Walter on his muskrat trapline in North Dakota. An out-of-state trapping trip is a lot of work and takes a lot of planning and organizing, but Chris has mastered it! In just a short 10 days, we caught well over 1,000 muskrats! Enjoy!
