Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.” 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.” 8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” Isaiah 6:1-8 NKJV 1. We Learn That We Should Value SELF-AWARENESS. The ability to see the condition of our own heart. So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.” Isaiah 6:5 (NKJV) WHEN YOU REALLY SEE JESUS, YOU WILL ALSO SEE THE CONDITION OF YOUR OWN HEART! Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23, 24 (NIV) 2. You Need To See Your PERSONAL SIN. It is very important that we become aware of the condition of our own heart. 4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 1 John 3:4 17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. James 4:17 "Sin is any thought, action, attitude or word that is contrary to God’s nature, instructions or commands." There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. Proverbs 16:25 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered, “Master, we‘ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” 6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.” Isaiah 6:5 (NKJV) 5 important observations about this moment in Isaiah’s life: • (1) God’s presence brings light to our sin. • (2) God shows us our sins because they hinder His plans for us. • (3) We must see our sinfulness, repent and forsake our sin before we can help others with their sinfulness. • (4) God’s conviction of our sins is always specific. • (5) God’s conviction of our sins should lead to our confession of them, and cleansing from them. Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: “God, I thank you that I am not like other people — robbers, evildoers, adulterers — or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.” 13 But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, “God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” 14 I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Luke 18:10-14 (NIV) 3. We Need a SAVIOR. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
