Show Notes

The Spiritual Life, Episode 8: The Life of Prayer (Part 1) In this episode of The Spiritual Life, we begin a multi-part series discussing the most important element of Catholic spirituality – prayer. Prayer is the heart and soul, the very life-blood, of the interior life of the soul. Progress in prayer is progress in the spiritual life. Indeed, prayer is morally necessary for the salvation of an adult. St. Alphonsus Liguori wrote: “He who prays will be saved; he who does not pray will certainly be lost. All who have been saved, were saved through prayer. All who have been lost were through their neglect of prayer.” Therefore prayer is clearly of the utmost importance to understand and live in our daily lives. Join host Nicholas Wansbutter and Father Bernard Uttley, O.S.B. as they talk about the meaning, importance, and practice of prayer – with topics covered such as petitionary prayer; prayer intentions; the “problem” of unanswered prayers. This show will lay the foundation for the next episodes in this series which will deal with vocal prayer, mental prayer, and the beginnings of the prayer of contemplation. St. Teresa of Avila said: “There is but one road that reaches God, and that is prayer. If anyone shows you another, you are being deceived.” Original Air Date: November 24, 2014 Show Run Time: 1 hour 26 minutes Show Guest(s): Father Bernard Uttley, O.S.B.
