Our Holiday Exclusive Interview Series Continues with A Conversation with Indie Artist The Black Royal .
The Black Royal is a recording music artist and fashion designer from Petersburg, VA. Having been influenced by a variety of styles of the genre, he fell in love with rap and the hip-hop culture at an early age. Originally, he took interest in breakdancing and beatboxing allowing him to express the love of the musical genre. Eventually, The Black Royal transitioned into writing lyrics, creating beats, and in general forming his own sound. Early in his career, the artist took part in a local rap group called “The Vio Demension” based in Petersburg, VA. A short while after its inception, the rap group dissolved, and The Black Royal went to establish a solo career. Both as a lyricist and beatmaker, The Black Royal takes inspiration from the legendary soul music that Motown has released across several decades. At this time, The Black Royal’s single with Shadow God, “We Up Next” has been placed into rotation on WVST-91.3 FM ration in Petersburg. In 2020, he partnered with a boutique artist development collective VMT Productionz to create and release more, high-quality music and visuals with the intent to form and grow a strong and loyal fanbase.
