Be Strong and Courageous: The Unchanging Promise of God’s Presence (Joshua 1:9)
Joshua 1:9 stands as one of the most beloved encouragements in Scripture: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
This verse is more than a motivational slogan. It is a divine command anchored in the character of God Himself. When Joshua faced the daunting task of leading Israel into the Promised Land, God didn’t give him a strategy first—He gave him His presence. Strength and courage were not rooted in Joshua’s ability, but in God’s nearness.
What’s beautiful is that this Old Testament promise is echoed, affirmed, and expanded throughout the New Testament. The same God who stood with Joshua stands with believers today.
