The two talk about John's path to becoming a writer which involved being the first in his family to attend college and working at Cosmopolitan for 23 years as the books editor, the deputy editor, and the editor-at-large. John also shares how losing his father, his sister, and his apartment in a recent fire inspired him to weave elements of grief into this novel and why he was opposed to weddings until his own.
