Do you find yourself stuck in meetings that go nowhere? Meetings can be wonderfully productive or woefully exasperating, and it’s the meeting leader who makes the difference.
Productive meetings start before the meeting does – setting parameters, expectations and desired outcomes makes all the difference. When everyone knows, going into the meeting, what the goal of the meeting is, who is expected to bring what intellectual capital to the meeting, and how the meeting will be conducted, the team shows up prepared to work.
When a meeting is called with just a vague topic given to participants, they have no way to mentally prepare beforehand, so they’ll take up the first part of the meeting just getting up to speed. The best way to have a team that participates in meetings and is excited to own the outcome is to give them the tools to succeed.
Those tools get handed out well before the meeting start time by great leaders.
