Ep 26026: Invest in Yourself
Need permission or a friendly reminder to invest in yourself? You’ve got it, girlfriend! Inspired by a women’s personal development conference I was about to attend, I felt compelled to record this episode before hopping on a plane. I was so excited to be a speaker on the bestselling authors panel at the FEMPOWERED LIVE event in Denver, CO and stay on the extra day to absorb all the life and biz-changing messages the other speakers were sharing. It did not disappoint! Stay tuned for a followup episode on that. I hope after hearing this one you’ll be encouraged and even challenged to invest your time and money into whatever you need to reach your goals, achieve success both personally and professionally, and kick the guilt to the curb if that starts showing up. Whether it’s self care in the form of pampering yourself or consuming content from an online course, attending a virtual or live event to inspire action, or taking the leap to try something new and hiring the help you need to get there, I’m sharing some ideas for how to prep ahead and enjoy every minute of it because you are so worth it! Ep 25025: Get Clear on Your Message with Vanessa Wilde
When you speak, do people really understand what you mean? As a mom, wife, motivational speaker, podcaster, author, and a business owner, I can tell you that sending a clear message is important, and not always so easy. We may think what we’re saying makes total sense, but is it landing on your audience (your kids, co-workers, or clients) the way you intended? I wasn’t so sure. So I asked for some backup from my long-time online friend, and messaging expert, Vanessa Wilde. Vanessa is a creative director and copywriter, with over 10 years in digital marketing. With an edge on positioning and messaging, Vanessa helps businesses clearly articulate the value of their products and services so best-fit customers convert. She's also a wife of 13 years, a mom of 3, and a dog mom.We talked about pivoting through different seasons at home and work, why we would even consider starting anything new if the stats say that 90% of start-ups fail in the first 10 years, and how failure equals feedback. I learned a lot and hope you’ll appreciate her sound advice too! Highlights:(04:43) Why should we start anything new?(09:06) How to set yourself up for success(12:21) Keeping up with the trends(17:52) How to use your words to connect with your clients(23:28) Pulling away from social media(29:13) Finding where you feel most fulfilledMentioned:Ep 20: Set Yourself Up for SuccessInstagram @vanessawilde.coWebsite www.vanessawildeco.comIf you’re enjoying the Time To Pivot podcast, be sure to share it and tag me on social @everythingwithstylemom so I can thank you! Ep 24024: The Art of the Pivot
After years of navigating the uncertainty of entrepreneurship and mom life, I’ve often been called the “Queen of the Pivot.” It’s a name I’ve grown to love for what it represents. From elementary school teacher to business owner, professional organizer to Mompreneur Strategist, motivational speaker and award-winning podcaster to bestselling author, I’ve learned to embrace change more quickly and effectively than I did in the past. I’ve discovered a way to simplify the process of getting through the necessary shifts in life and business without dwelling on the setbacks, letting fear rule your decisions, and resisting forward motion that causes many people to miss out on incredible blessings and opportunities. There’s an art to the pivot! You can begin using my 3 E’s today to pivot with confidence, integrity, and grace even when you’re uncertain of how it will all turn out. I hope this episode gives you the encouragement to lean into the unknown and trust that there’s a greater plan for your life beyond your wildest dreams, and nothing can stop you when you learn to pivot well! Highlights:(03:17) Pivots in my life(10:38) From business to theatre(15:38) Embracing the struggle(21:52) The 3 E’s for pivoting confidently(29:23) Focus on one thing at a time(38:00) The importance of asking for helpMentioned:Ep 1: My Story is Your StoryEp 8: Called & CapableEp 23: 10,000 Hours to Expert StatusIf you’re enjoying the Time To Pivot podcast, be sure to share it and tag me on social @everythingwithstylemom so I can thank you! Ep 23023: 10,000 Hours to Expert Status
What makes you an expert at something? It’s been said that it takes 10,000 hours of practice or experience to get you to expert status, but other research has shown that in some cases no matter how much you work toward a goal it’s just not in the cards. This could be because of issues that exist beyond your control, like the fact that my 5’4” height would probably not have me winning any dunking contests. It could also have to do with whether or not you had a great desire or felt called to pursue a certain goal. I can’t say that being a basketball star is on my bucket list. On the flip side, you may be so driven by internal conviction that that’s enough to propel you into expert status at a very fast pace. You get the knack for something, crack the code, or quickly learn from your mistakes and you take off. When that happens and your desire to serve others with your skills or teach them to do the same is realized, you’re unstoppable! Whether it’s a slow build to 10,000 hours and beyond or a quick study with fast results, trust the process if you’re pursuing your purpose, and believe that no matter what level you're at you can always be of service to others. Highlights:(01:50) How to become an expert in your field(07:28) Child prodigies(09:46) I could never solve a Rubik’s Cube(16:36) How to ask experts for help(18:58) The power of paying it forward(24:41) Pivot with confidence, integrity and purposeMentioned:Ep 20: Set Yourself Up for SuccessEp 22: From Burnout to Alignment with Courtney MurphyIf you’re enjoying the Time To Pivot podcast, be sure to share it and tag me on social @everythingwithstylemom so I can thank you! Ep 21021: Purpose Over Confidence
Pursuing our purpose sounds admirable and worthwhile, but what if it’s so new or uncertain that we don’t feel confident?I’ve been in the middle of a pivot myself in the last few months in my business and that sometimes comes with a lack of confidence. What I’ve discovered after many necessary pivots, both personally and professionally, is if we lead with our purpose, confidence will follow. If we choose to focus on learning the lessons through the pivot and trust that God has a plan for us, we’ll ultimately gain confidence that’ll help us keep going. Highlights:(01:06) The Southern California sun(05:27) Pivoting from organization to motivation(07:14) Called to serve others(11:58) How to chase your purpose(13:40) The importance of believing in your purpose Mentioned:Ep 8: Called & Capable If you’re enjoying the Time To Pivot podcast, be sure to share it and tag me on social @everythingwithstylemom so I can thank you! Ep 13013: Nothing Is Certain - Try Anyway
Are we missing opportunities and blessings because we aren’t even trying something? We can’t be certain of whether or not it’ll be a success, but if we don’t try we’ll never know. We’ve all been given gifts that can add value and have a significant impact on people’s lives if we’re willing to try…even if it’s hard or scary to put yourself out there. With that trying comes necessary research for how you can help, asking for feedback, and learning lessons in the process. Being willing to serve others in the midst of our own pivot or time of transition can feel like such a blessing and sense of fulfillment. Ep 9009: Take the Lead in Your Life with Kelly Mobeck
My brilliant biz coach, dear friend, and Mom Boss herself is sharing why and how we can choose to be leaders in our life and business! Kelly Mobeck knows what it’s like to love her family fiercely and also desire more. She totally gets me and has offered sound advice, smart decision-making strategies, and encouragement over the years. So, of course, I asked her to talk about times she’s had to pivot and the lessons she’s learned through the process, including these: don’t let our circumstances stop us from taking the lead in our life, our kids are watching, so show them what it’s like to take chances, and don’t go it alone! Ep 8008: Called & Capable
If you’ve ever felt called toward a greater mission, and you struggle with self doubt, fear, or anxiety, I have great news for you, my friend! This week I’m tackling an issue that many of us have when we want to show up in a big way in our life (and possibly business) and we question whether or not we are capable of pulling it off. It turns out, we are so capable! God uses people all throughout the Bible who doubt their capabilities to make a huge impact in the lives of others. Moses had a speech impediment and warned God he wasn’t the right person for the job. He’s the guy with the big Ten Commandments tablet, sharing it with many up on a mountain and also parted the Red Sea! You can be doubtful and still trust that you are able to do great things! Highlights:(02:07) Are you feeling called?(05:49) Human faults are relatable(10:39) Trust that the foundation is there(14:46) Take the leap and keep the faith Mentioned:Ep 6: Fear is a LiarEp 96: Paralysis by Analysis from The Mom’s Organization Motivation Podcast If you’re enjoying the Time To Pivot podcast, be sure to share it and tag me on social @everythingwithstylemom so I can thank you! Ep 6006 : Fear is a Liar
If you’re giving fear too much authority in your life, let me tell you something…you’re being lied to! Fear can feel so real, so consuming, and stop you from ever moving forward. It’s meant to keep you safe, but often it keeps you stuck. If you’re afraid of failure, you’ll never grow. It’s in the struggles, the heartbreak, the uncertainty that we grow the most. It’s not always easy, but worth the effort to pursue a life of your dreams. Ep 5005 : Jesus & 90s Hip Hop
We’re complex, multi-layered people, and magic happens when we show up as our authentic selves! It’s easy to let self-doubt, the opinions of others, and our people-pleasing tendencies keep us from being exactly who we are. I’m a lover of hip hop and also a Christian. I’m a mom and a business owner. I’m an extrovert and also appreciate a quiet night at home in my pjs. Our differences make us special. We can’t dim our light for anyone. We were “fearfully and wonderfully made!” Now let’s be brave and bold and live the life we’re called to live! Highlights:(04:46) The soundtrack of my life(08:25) How to be fully authentic(15:06) Will people make fun of me?(19:02) Lightning bolts on podcast covers(23:21) Turning to prayer(25:31) How are you showing up in the world? Ep 4004 : Use Your Gifts for Good
In 1 Peter 4:10-11 we’re asked to be “faithful stewards” of our gifts, but what if we’re not sure what they are and how to use them?I remember meeting my friend and business coach, Kelly Mobeck, for brunch at Marmalade Cafe in January 2016 and sharing with her my desire to do more, to make an impact on people’s lives, and to contribute more to my family. After a mimosa, a list of my skills created, and a brainstorming session about how I could use my gifts to serve others, I was ready to take action. James 1:17 says “Every good and perfect gift is from above…” Highlights:(02:20) Your God-given gifts(07:27) Moms should stick together(08:58) Not loving every part of your job?(13:19) God asks us to be “faithful stewards” of our gifts(16:35) Every good and perfect gift is from above(18:48) Don’t be scared to share Mentioned:Ep 154: Find Your Mom Group God has called us to use our gifts, and blessings will most definitely come from doing so. Ep 3003 : Say Goodbye to Mom Guilt
When that voice of guilt is getting louder than the voice of reason, it’s time to say goodbye to it. Feeling guilty because you desire more? Ever look at your life and wonder, “Is this it?” You may even feel badly for having those thoughts because you don’t want to seem ungrateful. Those thoughts and feelings aren’t serving you though. On this episode I’m talking about identifying the source of the guilt and figuring out how to push past it. Highlights:(02:22) Doing something for ourselves vs putting ourselves before others(04:30) It’s ok to work on yourself(07:05) Give yourself grace!(13:22) Don’t feel guilty about asking for help(19:32) A sense of control(22:22) The yucky mindset of guilt Thanks so much for listening! Ep 1001 : My Story Is Your Story
On this first episode I thought I’d share a bit of my background as a mom and former elementary school teacher, turned business owner, professional organizer, and Mompreneur Strategist. After taking a chance on leaving my amazing teaching job to stay home with my son before he started school, I couldn’t ignore my desire for more. I loved being a mom, and I also needed an outlet for my creativity and my passion for serving in some way. This week you’ll hear a preview of how I started a company that allowed me to still be with my family, launched a multi-award winning podcast that’s listened to in more than 85 countries, published a bestselling book, and now help moms get clear on how they can use their gifts to turn their passions into purpose.
