In response to escalating unrest and riots in Los Angeles following recent ICE immigration enforcement operations, the Trump administration has deployed 700 active-duty Marines from Camp Pendleton to assist in restoring order. This federal intervention supplements the approximately 2,000 National Guard troops already mobilized in the city amid ongoing protests and incidents of violence.
Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have criticized the deployment. Nevertheless, the Trump administration maintains that decisive federal action is necessary to prevent further disorder and uphold the rule of law.
