Whitfield hit a memorable pinch-hit home run on August 15, 1985 off Bruce Sutter to beat the Braves at Dodger Stadium. Whitfield played 10 major league seasons and three more in Japan, and also invented a soft-toss batting practice machine called the “Terry Toss.”
