Episode 66. John Joseph Of CroMags / Bloodclot.
EEpisode 66. John Joseph Of CroMags / Bloodclot. John Joseph life has had more ups and downs and turns than any world class rollercoaster. In this brief conversation, we talked about where he drew his strength and adversity to fight past his addictions and drive himself towards success. Many people fall victim to vices and never overcome or rise above it, but for John, he survived, he overcame and he pushed himself even harder when the CroMags fell apart. His story is outlined in his first book, Evolution of a CroMagnon, so I won't give you the bio, but we go into some cracks where we can hear more of his tale there and we go beyond into, into the drive towards his multi discipline training for the Ironman competitions he lives for. He has published 5 books and is working on his 6th, he is working on tv and movie scripts and he is also working as a life coach. As he approaches 60, he is still pursuing music with Bloodclot, which will have new music in the coming year. Many of John's peers didn't make it to 30 or 50, while he is healthier physically and mentally than most half his age. I love his story, I consider him to be a good friend and we had a great conversation. www.johnjosephdiscipline.com/ www.bloodclot.bandcamp.com/ www.twitter.com/jjcromag www.instagram.com/johnjosephcromag Opening Track of the Episode - Berthold City " Only Truth Wins" off their Debut LP "When Words Are Not Enough" Available March 18, 2022 on War Records www.bertholdcityhc.bandcamp.com www.war-rec.com/

Episode 64 Kevin Hare of Philly HC Shows
EEpisode 64. Kevin Hare of Philly HC Shows. Kevin's love and dedication for hardcore knows no bounds, yet his impact isn't in bands he's been in etc, but in the long time support, the hours before and every show helping out and just being the ultimate champion of hardcore in the area in general. To celebrate his 35th Birthday, I wanted to have him back on the show and go deeper into his origins, finding hardcore and his general thoughts and feelings on things. He is one of my favorite people and someone who I rely on for so many things that without his help the many shows and fests would have a much different outcome. His presence has made everything we do better and I appreciate him for being there always. Episode 63. Carter Holmes of From Within Records & Payback/Off The Tracks.
EEpisode 63. Carter Holmes of From Within Records & Payback/Off The Tracks. I've been saying that he was a future podcast guest, and with FYA weekend upon us, no better time to bring him on. His humble beginnings finding hardcore in one of southernmost hardcore scenes in the US is already a phenomenal story, but it goes beyond that. From venturing beyond his home of Mobile, AL to hitting the road and finding hardcore friends from Florida to the Northeast and beyond, it made a lasting impression on him. He would eventually begin his label From Within helping release his friends demo tape. From Within would go quickly from a small diy label to a force to be reckoned with, releasing some of the best up and coming bands of the last few years in hardcore as well as releasing 2 of the One Scene Unity Comps which have become the Call For Unity/ Where the Wild Things Are of the modern days. His spirit and love for hardcore shines on this interview and as a younger guy whose heart and soul is put into the music and the scene, I am glad to have finally had him on the show. www.instagram.com/fromwithinrecords [email protected] Opening Track " Detonate" by Despize .. off the Split with Deklination which is a split release between From Within and Northern Unrest. www.despizehc.bandcamp.com/ www.instagram.com/despizehardcore

Episode 62 . Rob Lind of Blood For Blood and Ramallah.
EEpisode 62 . Rob Lind of Blood For Blood and Ramallah. Happy New Year! Welcoming in 2022 with a conversation with a friend whose story as far as I'm concerned has yet to be told from his perspective and needs to be heard. Rob Lind is the creative force behind both Blood For Blood and Ramallah. We speak on the early days of his life, the origins of Blood For Blood and then we go deeper into the his personal life and his own dealings with the devil and coming to full sobriety. Rob is an amazing artist, with lightning fast wit and a razor sharp tongue who showed a side of himself that is not only a testament to who he is as a person to come full circle but also sheds new light over his career. This is easily my favorite conversation for the show to date. I really hope you enjoy and please pass it on to others who may be in need of guidance or just to hear his story. www.youtube.com/c/WhiteTrashRobOFFICIAL www.downrightmerchinc.com/collections/rob-from-nod www.facebook.com/groups/TNHITO www.gofundme.com/f/eddie-leeways-fight-with-cancer www.gofundme.com/f/help-mark-fight-back-against-his-cancer www.gofundme.com/f/roger-miret-needs-our-help Opening Track of the Episode " Unlawful Execution " by The Chisel, from their Retaliation LP (released Nov 2021) www.instagram.com/thechiseluk www.thechisel.bandcamp.com/

From his earliest days in the burgeoning Sacramento Punk scene to the early days of the Northern California Hardcore scene, he was there as an integral part. Episode 54 Zack Nelson. The Voice of OxNARDcore and 185 Miles South Podcast
EEpisode 54 Zack Nelson. The Voice of OxNARDcore and 185 Miles South Podcast. First Stop on TIHC Podcast West Coast Tour! Oxnard, California and its greatest champion Zack Nelson. I met Zack back in the early 00's in Sacramento while my band and his (In Control) crossed paths. Later as I began thinking about doing a podcast, it was his 185 Miles South that gave me much to think of in terms of history, long interviews etc. Zack is humble, well spoken and the perfect guy to be the champion of oxnard hardcore past, present and future. But he and his friends' podcast goes well beyond Oxnard and provides alot of fun listens with just chats on favorite records in general. Zack's upbringing and coming to age story is fantastic and he and I had a wonderful chat and at times I felt like I was being interviewed by him. Truly a pleasure to have him on the show. check out his podcast... 185 Miles South www.185milesouth.com www.instagram.com/185milessouth/?hl=en

Episode 53. Andy Rice. Hard Work & Hard Lessons in Booking Hardcore Bands.
EEpisode 53. Andy Rice. Hard Work & Hard Lessons in Booking Hardcore Bands. Most of the bands that would come to rise in the era at the outset of This Is Hardcore Fest, Sound & Fury and United Blood are bands that would or have been booked by Andy Rice. His story is much like so many others on the show. Self taught from touring in previous bands, lead him to be able to become one of the busiest and successful booking agents from 04 onward. His story and principles on how to work within our world is focused here. There is still so much to go on with Andy beyond what we captured in these 2 hours, but Andy is someone who is not only a friend of mine, but has done so much to keep the ball rolling for so many hardcore bands. He comes at this from a very strong will backed with blue collar approach and has alot of ethics that separated him from so many of his peers. Opening Track of the Episode Z9! Episode 51. Bob Wilson. PAHC Legend In The Making.
EEpisode 51. Bob Wilson. PAHC Legend In The Making. Bob Wilson may be one of the most passionate people in hardcore today. From his early teens he was obsessed with hardcore punk. Over time he would pull together his first band Let Down, an angry straight edge band from the suburbs of Philadelphia. They were absolutely the definition of "in your face" and antagonistic. This was the path for him for all that would come later. He would end up being in multiple bands, Mother Of Mercy, Beware and Malice At The Palace and his newest band Off The Tracks. Through touring he would eventually start helping bands play in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Later when he moved here, he began booking shows in the city as well. I mentored him and have always had his back, through personal life and with promoting and booking. After he moved to Florida, he would start FYA Fest with Sam from Triple B records. After 2 fests, Bob would take FYA from Orlando to Tampa and since 2015 has run it on his own. Bob Wilson through FYA Fest and now his own small label Rebirth Records, has mastered the art of finding young bands and put them in the proper position to gain attention. With his relationships with small labels etc, he's helped dozens of bands become nationally known. He is the embodiment of the DIY spirit in hardcore and has a passion that has outlasted most of his early naysayers. Hardcore Punk is in a better place because of him and this episode is both fun, personal and very enjoyable for me as he is one of my very closest friends on the planet. www.instagram.com/fyafest www.twitter.com/fyafest www.rebirthrecords.bigcartel.com Off The Tracks www.fromwithinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/off-the-tracks-demo Malice At The Palace www.maliceatthepalace.bandcamp.com BeWare www.backtobackrecords.bandcamp.com/album/beware-wont-get-the-best-of-me Mother Of Mercy www.motherofmercy.bandcamp.com/ Let Down www.letxdown.bandcamp.com/

Episode 49. 49 minutes of Thank You and What's in Store for TIHC Podcast and more.
EEpisode 49. 49 minutes of Thank You and What's in Store for TIHC Podcast and more. Why not just talk for 49 minutes on the precipice of achieving 50 episodes right? Not much to really summarize here, some thoughts on how to better treat everyone regarding all the various issues in the world today. Thoughts on future guests, upcoming philly shows and a thank you for all the support thus far.
Episode 48 Rob Will To Live. Tested and True.
EEpisode 48 Rob Will To Live. Tested and True. Where would Texas Hardcore be without Rob and Will To Live? From growing up in El Salvador, immigrating to the US, Rob would grow to love the underground music scene, be it death metal, or later when he found Sick Of It All. Once he landed in Houston, he found his home and began building the scene into the powerhouse it would become. Much of our conversation centers around his band Will To Live and the scene as it grew and what he put into it. So much has come to fruition from the seeds planted that this conversation with my old friend will illuminate the who and how of the back then. But Rob isn't done yet, Will To Live is back to playing shows with a solid Lineup, he has a new projected called True Intentions which begin to play their first shows this weekend. Despite all the ups and downs, Hardcore is still a driving force of Rob's life and he is not stopping anytime soon. www.trueintentions.bigcartel.com/ www.instagram.com/trueintentionsband www,willtolive.bigcartel.com/ www.instagram.com/willtolivetxhc www.testedandtruecompany.bigcartel.com/ (Rob's Business) www.theweightofrespect.bandcamp.com/ (side project while Will To Live went on hiatus 2008-2010 www.scentsofhope.scentsy.us/ (Rob and His Wife's Business) Opening Track of the Episode "Point Of Origin" True Intentions

Ep47. Carl Porcaro 2. From Breakdown to Killing Time, Cheap Thrills and The Bright Side Of It All
EEpisode 47 Carl Porcaro Part 2. From Breakdown to Killing Time, Cheap Thrills and The Bright Side Of It All We return to the story Carl was telling from Episode 40. It begins with a schism in the Breakdown camp which would to the formation of Raw Deal and a whole new story unfolds. From the demo to The Bright Side, and all the things that would come later. We delve deep not just into Killing Time stories but of the transition in NYHC post CBGBs and beyond. Carl's positive outlook despite things that have soured or not gone well is just one of the many great things about him. So much covered that I can't really summarize it better than someone who has done Hardcore for almost his entire life is happier than angry at the things that didn't work out and looks at it all as a blessing. I wish more people in hardcore could have his view and perspective. www.gorditabeach.bandcamp.com/track/masque-of-the-blue-death www.instagram.com/breakdownnyhc www.instagram.com/killingtimenyhc Opening Track of the Episode Chemical Fix " Revolver" www.chemicalfix.bandcamp.com/album/revolver www.instagram.com/chemical.fix www.facebook.com/chemicalfix

Episode 46. Some Thoughts, Some Ramblin On and Talk of Shows Returning.
EEpisode 46. Some Thoughts, Some Ramblin On and Talk of Shows Returning. I took some time to discuss the We're With Stu show, The Year of The Knife Record Release and talked about upcoming shows, Hardcore and how I feel about it now as the world opens back up. Probably a little too much Ramblin, but at least its only an hour of it. www.dropkickmurphys.store/product/19741/were-with-stu-tee-black www.baneofficialmerch.bigcartel.com/product/i-m-with-stu-bane-shirt Opening Track Of the Episode "WorthLess" from OFF THE TRACKS From their Demo OFF THE TRACKS https://fromwithinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/off-the-tracks-demo

Episode 45 Shane Merrill. 20 plus years of Heists, Rumbles and Chicago Hardcore Shows.
EEpisode 45 Shane Merrill. 20 plus years of Heists, Rumbles and Chicago Hardcore Shows. Shane Merrill is another long time friend whose work out of a small Knights of Columbus in a suburb just outside of Chicago inspired alot of what would come into play with This Is Hardcore . The Arlington Heist was one of the first "fests" we would attend annually, whether on the road with Dysphoria or with Punishment or Shattered Realm. He has grown alot from Hall shows into holding down a calendar for Reggies, a 3 room venue in Chicago. We talk on his early days, the bands he and his friends did as kids and what got him going into the world of promoting. With the announcement of the Killer Reunion, the band Shane plays in, and 2 reunion shows he booked in August, I wanted to have him on to talk about all of it. He's been a friend for over 20 years and his story is awesome. Episode 44 Chris Wynne. From Photocopies to Hardcover Book, the Story of In Effect Zine.
Ewww.thisishardcorefest.com/podcast/episode44 A long time ago, I picked up an issue of a fanzine in a store off of South Street. In Effect it was, featuring Sick Of It All and Sheer Terror on the cover, and the rest was history. Chris Wynne would start In Effect after working on New Breed #1 with Freddy Alva. Learning how to put a zine together, he would bang out 3 fine issues covering NYHC bands. A hiatus where he was less involved in Hardcore and then a resurrection fueled by his friends in bands like Cold Front, Breakdown and a resurgence of NYHC bands, he would go from a few copies to his last issue printing over 10,000 copies. Once the zine became too much work, he packed it in. He'd pop back up with In Effect Hardcore Zine dot com, and now for the first time, we can buy the In Effect Fanzine Anthology. We talk about his background and interests and the story of the zine and what went into making it. In Effect Fanzine had a strong impact on me at a young age and my excitement for this book is overwhelming. www.ineffecthardcore.com www.shininglife.bigcartel.com/product/slp-34-in-effect-hardcore-fanzine-anthology Opening Track of the Episode Multiple HomeFront Chaos " Your Turn To Lose" off their Demo www.instagram.com/multiplehomefrontchaos www.twitter.com/mh_chaos

Episode 43. Bill Wilson. The Man Who Showed Us Where The Wild Things Are.
EEpisode 43. Bill Wilson. The Man Who Showed Us Where The Wild Things Are. www.thisishardcorefest.com/podcast/episode43 This is a bucket list conversation for the podcast, or at least for me. Being a fan of the bands that came from Blackout! Records and what Bill Wilson did for NYHC and beyond as a teenager, It was really something special to take 2.5 hrs and go through this life leading up to and beyond the New York Hardcore, Where the Wild Things Are compilation that was the first release of many for Bill and Blackout Records. What startled me was not specific details but the depth to which Bill reveals his childhood and later in life as he dealt with the struggle that it is to be in the Music Business in the early 2000s. This is a must listen, as there is so much more than just talking about records and its another entrepreneur, meets the challenge of dark days and rises to unbelievable limits, all from the hard work that came from being involved in Hardcore Punk and running a record label in the most DIY ways. www.blackoutrecords.com www.facebook.com/blackoutrecords www.blackoutrecords.bandcamp.com www.twitter.com/blackoutnyhc www.instagram.com/blackoutnyhc www.youtube.com/channel/UCTR8VxIcQOix5Fj55KRu2Qg Opening Track of the Episode: Ekulu "Proven Wrong" From their debut LP "Unscrew My Head" www.cashonlyrecords.limitedrun.com www.ekulu.bandcamp.com www.twitter.com/ekuluworld www.instagram.com/ekuluworld

Episode 42 Sunny Singh. How To Use Your Platform To Amplify The Voice Of Others
EEpisode 42. Sunny Singh on How To Use Your Platform To Amplify The Voice Of Others www.thisishardcorefest.com/podcast/episode42 40 Episodes ago, I spoke to Sunny on his background and the inspiration and motivation to create Hate5Six.com and the many facets of his media channel. 9 months later, I check back in on him, not only to see what he's been up to, but to discuss how he uses his platform to amplify the voice of others. There is a good bit of discourse on how he feels about running social media and the channel and how it works back into his politics and the way people engage him on social media. Later on we get into the depths of what he is working on, which the lionshare of his work of late has been being along Mike Africa Jr and the Move Movement in Philadelphia. We touch on the background of Move and we discuss what he has witnessed and his take on things that have transpired. Episode 41 . Eddie Sutton. Surviving the Rise and Fall.
EEpisode 41 Eddie Sutton. Surviving The Rise and Fall www.thisishardcorefest.com/podcast/episode41 The story of Eddie Sutton is not only the story of Leeway and their unparalleled impact and influence on hardcore and beyond, but also the tale of the trials and tribulations of many street kids in the world. Speaking to Eddie today, decades after his battle and victory over heroin addiction, he is now faced with a battle with cancer which he was lucky to be diagnosed early enough to catch the cancer and begin chemotherapy. His ability to look back with hindsight and humor into his dark past and the roots of our culture shows that regardless of the eventual demise of Leeway, that he still can look at those days with love and respect while being able to call out the problems that plagued the band. We speak about alot of things not Leeway related and I truly believe this is one of my favorite episodes to date. EP40 Carl Porcaro Pt 1
EEpisode 40 Carl Porcaro A Tale Told of Sick People.. (photo credit : Angela Owens) Who doesn't want to hear the origins of one of the most influential guitarists in all of Hardcore? From his metalhead roots in Yonkers, to the way the band Breakdown formed and their glorious yet very short initial run. This conversation is shorter than others, yet we plan to return with a part 2 and pick up where we left off and go further into Raw Deal and beyond. www.instagram.com/loochifer www.instagram.com/breakdownnyhc www.instagram.com/killingtimenyhc Since the main conversation was about 1/2 the length of the last couple episodes, I've added a short conversation to talk to an old friend Davin Bernard about her Hardcore Radio Show called Marked For Life. She talks briefly on her background and influences that drove her to create one of the coolest innovations of the Covid Times. We will certainly have Davin as an upcoming guest in the weeks to come. www.markedforlife.buzzsprout.com www.instagram.com/markedforlifehc [email protected] for submissions Searchable on all the major platforms (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Overcast, Castro, Castbox, Podfriend, RSS) Opening Track of The Episode: Please Die! Episode 39 Mike Gitter... What Makes A Man Start Fires?
EEpisode 39 Mike Gitter... What Makes A Man Start Fires? www.thisishardcorefest.com/podcast/episode39 Mike Gitter started in the second generation of Hardcore Punks, in a small town in Massachusetts, that would place him perfectly in the right place to find hardcore punk, and meet so many people who would be integral for his life and career moving forward, all before he was out of high school. Starting with his XXX Fanzine in 1983, it would be the beginning of his life long passion meets career. From writing a fanzine, working with a small label, to eventually writing in other magazines like Thrasher Mike Gitter would just get deeper immersed in the behind the scenes of hardcore punk. From being in bands, booking shows and tour managing, all of this would lead to his first shot position as an A&R and would go on to be a force in releasing some great records, including Civ Set Your Goals, which we spoke about a bit. Our conversation ends around the mid to late 90s when he shifted over to A&R of Roadrunner records, but 3 hours in, we cut it and decided to have some more time in another episode finishing up his story. From fanzine writer in 1983 to being responsible for signing Body Count who recently won the Grammy for Best Metal Record, this is a story of a DIY born professional career in music, keeping the spirit of the underground alive at the highest levels of success in the music industry. Episode 37 Paul Conroy. Fighting The Good Fight.
EEpisode 37 Paul Conroy. Fighting The Good Fight. www.thisishardcorefest.com/podcast/episode37 Paul Conroy's story of rising up the ranks from the very bottom of the ladder in the Philadelphia area metal scene to becoming one of American Metal / Hardcore and Metalcore's biggest champions is absolutely a must listen. There is so much to learn from his experiences, his tips on how he networked and took risks and how sometimes they didn't pay off but the experience was worth it. There is so much to him, from a local band manager to becoming an A&R for Roadrunner to creating Good Fight Entertainment, the Sounds of The Underground tour and managing so many well known bands like Terror, Unearth, Madball and countless metal bands. There is so much more to his achievements as he reached into the world of Sports and Skateboarding. I'm leaving alot out so you have to listen.
