In 1869, the Cincinnati Red Stockings became the first professional baseball team, with a few caveats. 

In 1892, the seeds of Liverpool FC were sown on this day with the ejection of John Houlding from Everton.


And in 1958, Maurice Stokes collapsed after a game, leaving him paralyzed and with brain damage. It was the result of what happened three days before.
