The Crisis is a historical document: the first volume, number one, of a journal subtitled, A Record of the Darker Races, published in November 1910. Edited by W. E. B. Du Bois, with the co-operation of Oswald Garrison Villard, J. Max Barber, Charles Edward Russell, Kelly Miller, W. S. Braithwaite and M. D. Maclean, this issue addresses concerns relevant to African Americans at the turn of the century. Topics include racial prejudice, segregation, voting rights, education, economic advancement, and the activities of organizations such as the NAACP. The publication aims to report important events and movements, review opinions and literature, and advocate for equality and justice, and to promote human understanding. It features articles, editorials, and advertisements, offering a snapshot of the social, political, and cultural landscape of the time for African Americans. The text concludes with the Project Gutenberg license information that allows for free distribution and modification of the work.
