The Supreme Court on Thursday put on hold the controversial 2026 UGC anti-discrimination rules, observing that their vague language could have sweeping consequences and may divide society. As student protests erupt across campuses, the top court questioned the constitutionality of the new regulations, flagged the exclusion of ragging, and warned of possible misuse. The bench clarified that the 2012 Regulations will remain in force so that students are not left remediless.
