Show Notes

The seventh session of Theology Lab's 2023-2024 series, "God & Money." In this discussion, guest speakers Prof. Jonathan Tran (Baylor University) and Prof. Dwight N. Hopkins (University of Chicago), along with moderator Scott Rice, discuss the connection between faith, capitalism, and race. Is capitalism a means for human flourishing or should people of faith think more critically about a system that bears on nearly all the parts of our lives? How do questions about race challenge some of the standard narratives about how we relate to wealth and capitalism? In this conversation, Jonathan and Dwight lay out the theological visions that animate their work, how they think about a relation to capitalism, and how they navigate some of the differences in their respective proposals on relating to capitalism.
