Show Notes

Have you ever wondered what to do with some of the challenging parts of the Bible, such as passages and stories of apparently divinely inspired violence and war? If you're interested in how we might approach such passages -- along with the Bible as a whole — with honesty, curiosity, and especially humility, then you'll likely appreciate this session! Moderator Scott Rice is joined by Karen Keen, author of "The Word of a Humble God: On the Origins, Inspiration and Interpretation of Scripture." Karen discusses how to grapple with some of the challenging parts of the Bible and how the diversity of Scripture, as well as how the Bible came together, sheds light on the humble nature of God. Divine humility, Keen claims, teaches us both how to read Scripture and to love our neighbors in challenging but often fruitful ways.
