Dr. Alon Loeffler is a scientist specialising in Synthetic Biological Intelligence, with his key research focus being the interplay between structure and function in neuro-memristive nanowire networks. What? (I hear you say) In simple terms, he is building a brain (of sorts) in the lab. At the very least, synthetic neurons (brain cells) which he's currently 'teaching' to play basic computer games (like Pong). Moving into the future, it's possible that his work will have a myriad of applications, especially in the medical space. Alon's interests lie at the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, nanotechnolosy and philosophy; areas such as brain-computer interface, neuroengineering and neuromorphics.
