Dr. Shaneeta Johnson is a leader in all circles that she occupies. She is an Associate Professor of Surgery, Director of the Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Program, and the Residency Associate Program Director at Morehouse School of Medicine. Dr. Johnson’s penchant for leadership is both natural and cultivated. In this episode, she talks about her origins from a family of educators, as well as the more deliberate nurturing of her leadership skills, reflected in part in her decision to pursue an MBA when she noticed a lapse in business knowledge in medical education.
Dr. Johnson delves into her passion for bariatric surgery and offers an exciting glimpse into the world of robotic surgery, where she not only touts its medical benefits, but also emphasizes the importance of humility and open-mindedness in adopting new methodology and technology in the medical field. Overall, she approaches her many responsibilities with care, tenacity, and grace, and remembers to pass it on to her mentees.
