Should Christians Ever Appeal to the Supernatural in Science?
Ep 57Should Young Earth Creationists Watch “The Story of Everything”? (My Honest Take)
In this episode of The Wins of Creationist, I talk through whether Christians—especially young age creationists like me—should watch and recommend the upcoming documentary The Story of Everything (in theaters April 30, 2026), based on Steven Meyer’s The Return of the God Hypothesis and released through Fathom Entertainment. I explain how intelligent design draws its line at “design vs. no design,” not the age of the earth, and why that can confuse some viewers if the film leans on Big Bang cosmology. Using similar past critiques aimed at Is Genesis History, I argue it’s fair for different projects to pursue different goals, and that this film seems more like “pre-evangelism” than direct gospel presentation. My advice: you should probably see it, leaders should watch before recommending, and consider priming your people if needed.00:00 Should Christians Watch00:24 Young Earth vs ID02:54 Movie Overview Meyer05:22 Facebook Concerns10:52 Lines in the Sand11:34 Genesis History Parallel21:13 Why This Film Exists21:57 Not Evangelism Pre28:32 Should You See It32:02 Final Encouragement
Ep 56Is Young Earth Creationism Compatible with the Divine Council Worldview?
I respond to a question sparked by a Facebook post: are the Divine Council worldview and young age (young earth) creationism compatible, and can you take ancient Near Eastern scholarship seriously while upholding biblical authority? I clarify that young age creationists don’t deny dinosaurs, and I argue the “Bible vs. ancient Near Eastern background” framing is a false dichotomy because Scripture was written in an ancient Near Eastern context under God’s superintendence. I explain the Divine Council worldview as a royal hierarchy with Yahweh as “species unique,” other created elohim (including beings like malak, seraphim, and cherubim), and humanity as God’s imagers, with the New Testament “flipping the script” so humans become sons of God who will judge angels. I then outline young vs. old age timelines and argue there’s no necessary conflict, offering reasons the combined view can enrich topics like Babel and questioning the need for 13.8 billion years in God’s program. I recommend resources from my site, Tim Chaffey’s Fallen, and Michael Heiser’s Supernatural, The Unseen Realm, and Reversing Hermon, and I mention my upcoming book The Winsome Creationist.00:00 Welcome and Setup01:05 The Big Compatibility Question02:50 Why ANE Context Matters06:04 Polemics and Scholarship11:23 Defining Divine Council12:02 Three Layers of Agency13:52 Elohim Explained18:23 Types of Spiritual Beings20:33 Monotheism Not Polytheism23:13 Imagers of God25:02 Imaging God and Agency26:01 Incarnation and Script Flip26:36 Royal Hierarchy and Divine Council28:40 Psalm 82 and Genesis 6 Fallout29:32 Young Earth vs Old Earth Timelines32:23 Why They Can Coexist33:35 Babel Myths and Flood Legends35:02 The 14 Billion Year Problem39:46 Mere Young Age Creationism41:04 Tim Chaffey and Fallen44:54 Holding Views with Humility47:46 Where to Start and Final Wrap
Ep 55Should Christians DIVIDE Over Young Earth Creationism?
Responding to Ken Ham on Unity, Authority, and the Gospel*Important note: I appreciate Ken Ham's bold stand for the gospel and I take my family to his attractions every single year and we enjoy them immensely. I wish I didn't have to make this video, but I think it's very important that we clarify and get these issues right as we move forward to build a better creationism for the future. ---In this episode, I’m back after a year away finishing my book, and I jump right into Ken Ham’s recent video where he says he’s willing to cause division in the church over young earth creationism. I explain why I think there’s a big difference between critiquing a view and attacking people, and why treating “my interpretation” as identical to “God’s Word” creates confusion—especially when young earth is called a first-tier issue while also being framed as non-salvific. We walk through the Bible passages being used to justify division (1 Corinthians 1, John 7, Luke 12, 1 Corinthians 11, Romans 16), and I argue they’re mainly about unity in the gospel and avoiding false gospels, not splitting over creation debates. I also look at Galatians 2 as an example of public disagreement that really was about the gospel. Finally, I talk about why young earth creationism is dying—often because of how people are treated—and why a more winsome, model-building approach matters for the future.00:00 Divisive Creationism Question00:06 Channel Return and Book Update00:33 Why Respond to Ken Ham01:30 Young Earth Creationism at Risk03:21 Craig Critique and Personal Attacks05:17 Should We Divide for Authority07:47 First Tier Issue Confusion10:07 Testing First Corinthians Context13:58 Gods Word Versus Mans Word15:37 Judging Rightly John 719:11 Bereans and Scripture Authority22:47 Jesus Division Verses Applied25:23 Corinthians Divisions Context27:59 Head Coverings And Customs29:54 Debate Versus Division32:04 Romans 16 Warning Explained36:44 Unity On Gospel Only39:15 Creation Debate Without Schism41:22 Judging Motives And Charity43:02 Paul Confronts Peter Publicly46:38 Is Creation A Gospel Issue48:14 Why Young Earth Is Declining49:08 Winsome Future And Wrap Up

Ep 52[Revisited] Do ANE creation myths cast doubt on Genesis?
Hebrew Bible/Old Testament scholarship has undergone a major shift in recent decades. More and more, we hear that the Bible was written by just another culture in the ancient Near East, and that lots of borrowing and sharing of ideas between cultures have taken place.Has this happened? How? And if so, does that mean Genesis is not unique in its own right? How should Christians make sense of this issue? Let's talk about it!Link mentioned: https://biblearchaeologyreport.com/2019/02/22/three-ancient-near-eastern-creation-myths/

Ep 33Is Gavin Right About the Flood?
In this video, we engage in a comprehensive discourse addressing Gavin Ortland's views on the biblically narrated flood's extent - was it global or merely local? Our response dissects Ortland's argument and counters it with textual, historical, and scientific evidence, as well as ancient flood legends, to reinforce the idea of a global flood as caused by cosmic sin. We underscore the importance of context in biblical interpretation, challenging Ortland's declaration that a local flood reading is the 'natural' one. While we robustly defend the global flood theory, we maintain that the crux of the Christian faith lies in Jesus, not flood interpretations. It's crucial to respect differing perspectives. Despite disagreements, our should (as Gavin’s channel declares) unite us, not divide us.00:00 Introduction and Context00:00 The Debate: Global vs Local Flood00:10 Response to Gavin Ortland's Views00:48 The Speed of Video Playback00:59 Diving into the Flood Debate01:07 Addressing Controversial Topics01:41 The Influence of Bill Maher on the Debate02:36 The Role of Science in Understanding the Bible03:18 The Importance of Biblical Interpretation04:34 The Role of Apologetics and Unity05:27 The Orthodox Views on the Flood08:51 The Impact of the Flood on Humanity13:40 The Historicity of the Flood14:15 The Language Used in the Bible to Describe the Flood28:25 The Table of Nations and the Flood33:26 Addressing Objections to the Local Flood Interpretation33:52 Skepticism Towards Science and Its Impact on Christian Beliefs35:00 The Influence of Modern Science on Interpretations of the Flood36:50 The Role of Ancient Readers and Their Interpretation of Scripture37:37 Miracles in the Flood Story38:50 The Logistics of Animal Care on the Ark40:13 The Role of Evolution in Young Earth Creationism42:36 The Challenges of Fitting All Animals on the Ark01:02:32 The Historicity of the Flood Story and Its Extra-Biblical Attestations01:08:32 Concluding Thoughts: The Importance of Interpretation and the Authority of Scripture

Ep 25The TRUE history of creation science revealed... w/ Christian Ryan
In this episode, we delve into the ongoing debate in the creationist community about their relationship with evolutionary ideas. Our guest, Christian Ryan, a geology student and writer for the New Creation blog, sheds light on the historical evolution of creationist thought. We discuss species fixity's evolution, early hybridization ideas, and historical figures like José de Acosta who questioned species fixity in the 1500s.Exploring contemporary controversies, we highlight figures like Kurt Wise and Todd Wood, who propose hypotheses to explain transitional fossils and variations within kinds. We emphasize examining data from both scriptural and scientific perspectives and avoiding mere criticism of evolution without offering alternatives.Ultimately, this episode encourages a thoughtful approach to reconciling biblical history with science. Christian also shares insights into his ongoing geology and creation science projects. For more discussions, visit the New Creation blog. Ep 22How does creation show me...?
Creationists have far too long been focused on the wrong questions. If we spend all of our time demanding answers from God, instead of openly exploring his creation, we will craft answers that satisfy our doubts rather than expand our thinking about who God really is and what he is trying to do.
Ep 21Are we reading our ideas about Adam into Genesis?
Was Adam real or just an archetypal figure that we can refer to as a character of literature, but who never really lived? That question is at the forefront of many people's minds today. Some people think that we're even reading Adam back into Genesis from our own modern worldview. In this video, we're going to discuss that and see if it holds up to historical scrutiny.
Ep 20My Biggest Takeaways from the 2023 ICC
There is promising creation research happening across many disciplines, but more resources and education are needed to advance these fields further. I was encouraged by the caliber of researchers and young people I saw at the conference! Tune into this episode to hear some of my biggest points and takeaways from the conference.
Ep 19What Does "Stretching Out the Heavens" Mean in the Bible?
In this episode, I discuss the claim that distant starlight poses a problem for a young creationist view. I answer a listener's question about passages that say God "stretched out the heavens." I argue there are important considerations when interpreting these poetic passages. Overall, I advocate a non-concordist, phenomenological reading of such poetic passages, rejecting a literal concordist view that maps Bible verses to modern cosmology. I stress interpreting the Bible consistently, using evidence from other creationist arguments about genre and interpretation. Enjoy the show!
Ep 18Does supernatural creation do away with the need for science?
In this episode, we examine the question of whether believing in supernatural creation does away with the need for science. Some argue that if God created the world miraculously, then scientific study is pointless. However, we argue that believing in creation actually provides the inspiration and foundation for scientific discovery. We discuss the possibility that God may have altered the laws of physics during historical events like the flood. While recognizing this is significant, we assert that God has full sovereignty over his creation. However, this does not invalidate scientific inquiry - it makes it more exciting as we seek to discover God's work. The Bible gives us an accurate historical account but not all the details of "how" creation happened. Science can help fill in those details. While we may get some details wrong, we stand assured in the truth of Scripture's "what" happened. As Christians exploring and caring for God's world, we get to search out the world God created, honoring him through our study. In the end, believing God created the world means we must believe he can change it - as long as he does not violate his own nature or break his promises. Having faith in Christ includes having faith that he performed the impossible act of creation. Let's go explore the world our Creator made.
Ep 17Solving the Distant Starlight Problem for Creationists (w/ Ticho Tenev)
In this episode, I speak with computational engineer Dr. Ticho Tenev about his proposed solution to the distant starlight problem from a young earth creation perspective. His paper was coauthored by Drs. John Baumgardner and Mark Horstemeyer. Ticho walks us through special relativity and how it relates to the distant starlight problem. He then explains his proposed solution of Creation Time Coordinates which posits that during the creation week, God established time zones in space that allowed starlight to reach Earth on Day 4. Ticho discusses how his solution compares to other young earth creation models like Jason Lisle's ASC model. We also discuss the importance of understanding design and purpose in science and how secular science is missing this key component. This was an informative discussion on relativity, cosmology and finding solutions to perceived conflicts between science and Scripture.Download slides for further study: https://www.steveschramm.com/starlightpresi

Ep 11A Surprising Look at Noah's Flood w/ Dr. Dustin Burlet
In the apologetics community, there's a lot of talk about the evidential aspects of Noah's flood. And in church, often the fact of God's judgment is emphasized. In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Dustin Burlet who presents a sort of "middle ground" and sheds new light on how God viewed the flood and what it means for us today.
Ep 10Do ANE creation myths cast doubt on Genesis?
Hebrew Bible/Old Testament scholarship has undergone a major shift in recent decades. More and more, we hear that the Bible was written by just another culture in the ancient Near East, and that lots of borrowing and sharing of ideas between cultures have taken place. Has this happened? How? And if so, does that mean Genesis is not unique in its own right? How should Christians make sense of this issue? Let's talk about it!Link mentioned: https://biblearchaeologyreport.com/2019/02/22/three-ancient-near-eastern-creation-myths/
