On today's episode of The Exodus Podcast, we are back in the studio with Rendell Erik. Rendell is an Iowa native who has spent his whole life chasing giant whitetails. We discuss:
- Don't be afraid to hunt random spots that may seem unconventional
- Avoid historical hunting and don't be afraid to try new terrains and abandon previous targets
- Mature bucks prefer security cover and avoid open areas
- They strategically use thermal advantage and wind direction to stay undetected
- Overthinking can hinder progress and prevent you from reaching your goals.
- Target overlooked areas such as CRP fields, ponds, and riverbanks where mature bucks can guard does
- Don't be afraid to abandon target deer and adapt your hunting tactics
- Utilize travel routes with cover and set up in areas that provide security for the buck
- The low spots in fields or CRP attract bucks due to the concentration of thermals
- Learn from others but don't blindly follow the crowd
- Access is everything, dont be afriad to try unorthodox methods like kayaking or climbing high walls
