The Narcissist State – a Groundbreaking Psychological Perspective on Statism

Click here for the video link on YouTubeWhat are the actual psychological triggers within propaganda that enable the state to maintain the belief of political authority?Philip Bodeswell joins me to discuss his groundbreaking online book, “The Narcissist State”.Few thinkers have explored the eerie parallels between living breathing narcissists, and how statist propaganda manages to manipulate minds. No, it’s not narcissistic Bond villains rubbing their hands in glee. It’s the natural systemic outcome of statism. How the myth of political authority makes our minds vulnerable to well-understood narcissistic dynamics. But it’s not merely descriptive. Philip seeks to empower the individual…to become aware of the dynamic and be mentally on guard. And he provides useful guidance that parallels the healthy ways to deal with real-life narcissism: exit strategies.Philip is proud of his lifelong commitment to political liberty and the ideas and activities that get us there. He values independence, especially in thought. Philip has degrees, or their equivalent, in Sport, History, Computer Science and Law. He’s done contract IT development and project management from within the matrix. He’s a UK qualified barrister, and has been involved in radical politics in the UK. In fact, he was imprisoned for refusing masking during COVID. He’s run an informal on/offline gathering called ‘Agora’ for many years. Plus, he’s a keen squash player/coach, and has even done some stand-up comedy in London.Philip’s content:The Narcissist State frameworkPhilip’s SubstackPhilip’s X/TwitterDiscussions on:DiscordReddittAlso covered in the episode:The 1944 film “Gaslight”Philip’s Substack article on AI...My full, free 23-part Myth of Authority MasterclassSince some may be new to libertarian perspectives, here is a short list of links you may find helpful. Explaining my top White Pill: the transition to a free society has started...tangibly & sustainably!

Click here for the video link on YouTubeIn this episode I explain the foundational reasoning and evidence that supports one of the most profound White Pills to come out of my podcast: that we have already started the transition to a free society. And that this is not only tangibly evident, but virtually unstoppable.First, I spend time explaining how there are different interpretations of the term “White Pill”. A common one, which I reject, is that it means a generally optimistic attitude...a “glass half full” perspective. Sorry, that’s not what qualifies, in my book. Rather, my White Pills are based on evidence and logic. In other words, real world reasons for hope. At least for me, this is a more solid grounding in declaring something a White Pill. Then I explain exactly why we have commenced the transition to a free society. Not based on an optimistic feeling. But based on real world empirical evidence, basic psychology, logical thinking, and solid cause-and-effect reality. This will prove to be the episode most bookmarked by my audience. It’s a consolidated, bullet point synopsis of a profound White Pill. Enjoy! This episode from my Myth of Authority masterclass recaps the whole series, with an abundant bounty of White Pills. This episode untangles many libertarian myths about the transition...and discusses the actual, realistic timelines to a free society....My full, free 23-part Myth of Authority MasterclassSince some may be new to libertarian perspectives, here is a short list of links you may find helpful. My fun and thought provoking discussion with the lively podcast host Mark Puls

Click here for the video link on YouTubePlease enjoy my all-encompassing interview with Mark Sean Puls. We covered loads of topics like current libertarian debates, principles, strategy, and the eye-opening realization that we have begun the transition to free societies. Plus we learn about some of Mark’s experiences, for which this short description cannot do justice.Mark and his If By Whiskey co-host Jacob Day were kind enough to interview me on their show recently.Mark Sean Puls is the unapologetic voice behind Knocked Conscious and If By Whiskey, two podcasts that refuse to play nice with bad ideas. He cuts through political theater, media propaganda, and cultural nonsense with the precision of a scalpel and the charm of a guy who definitely pours his whiskey before reading the headlines.Mark doesn’t do scripted narratives or corporate-approved talking points. He does real conversations—smart, raw, sometimes chaotic, always honest. Whether he’s exposing hypocrisy, interrogating guests, or laughing his way through America’s current circus, he brings the perfect mix of humor, bite, and “did he really just say that?”.If you’re tired of safe takes and sanitized commentary, Mark’s your guy. No filters. No sacred cows. Just whiskey, wit, and the truth—served neat....My full, free 23-part Myth of Authority MasterclassSince some may be new to libertarian perspectives, here is a short list of links you may find helpful. Part 2 of my interview with Larken Rose: the monster White Pill libertarians can’t seem to process yet.

Click here for the video link on YouTubeLarken and I discuss propaganda and the seismic shake-up happening...is statism on the ropes? Tangibly, and sustainably? Are libertarians open to an incredible White Pill that’s right before our eyes? You’ll have fun as Larken and I role-play, with me as interviewer, and Larken as the hapless State itself.Plus, Larken gives us some White Pill tips, such as training yourself to notice the small (and large) tangible signs of skepticism that are evident in a significantly high number of people. This episode *should* make you way more optimistic...unless of course, you’re a libertarian who actually enjoys being black pilled. And here’s one of my episodes, providing tangible proof of that awesome White Pill.If you’d like to watch Part 1 of this interview, here it is.Some links to Larken’s work:His major book “The Most Dangerous Superstition”Larken’s website The Rose ChannelLarken was screenwriter of the feature film Jones Plantation (2023)His YouTube channelWe also discussed:The Milgram experiments“Propaganda” by Edward L. Part 1 of my interview with Larken Rose: libertarianism's illogical and ineffective pragmatism.

Click here for the video link on YouTube…and here is Part 2 on YouTubeThe libertarian movement has always been more or less dominated by pragmatism. Over fifty years of pragmatism has achieved very little…and that’s just as true today. So exactly how is a half century of meager results...pragmatic?This, and other inconsistencies in libertarian thinking is covered in painful detail, in this, part 1 of my 2-part interview with Larken Rose.As always, Larken pulls no punches. But if you think you’ve heard some of these arguments before, think again. This take-down of strategic pragmatism isn’t just a set of logical arguments. Pragmatists: watch at your own peril. Communication and libertarianism – my interview with Pavel Slutskiy

Click here for the video link on YouTubeIt’s a meta-discussion about communication itself – and how it intersects with libertarianism.I think you’ll enjoy this broad give-and-take with author and teacher Pavel Slutskiy, who I’m flattered to say, happens to be one of our long time subscribers on The White Pillbox. We discuss the importance of communication in libertarian thinking; purpose and intention; and cultural norms versus legal systems. Pavel shows us the nuances of speech acts that can be considered aggressive, such as threats or ordering others to commit aggression.Pavel’s books:“Communication and Libertarianism” (2021), the book which was referred by David Gordon as “…an outstanding contribution to both libertarian political philosophy and communication theory… and the most comprehensive work on communication issues in libertarian theory ever published”His follow-up book develops an epistemological alternative to empiricism for studying communication: “Philosophical Foundations of Communication Studies: a Praxeological Approach” (2024)Pavel is Associate Professor in Communication Management at the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok. He is Associate Professor in Public Relations at Saint-Petersburg State University — the first higher education institution in the country to offer a programme in PR. Dr. Slutskiy earned his PhD in Journalism (Political Science) from Saint-Petersburg State University. Since 2014, he has lived and worked in Thailand. My in-depth interview with Voluntaryist content creator Carey Wedler

Click here for the video link on YouTubeEnjoy my interview with the awesome Carey Wedler! We focus on psychology, and especially how statism impacts our psychological well being as individuals. This is an under served aspect of the overall voluntaryist movement; Carey has deep experience in this area and her insights are well worth your attention. She also tells the heart breaking story of the enormously successful Anti-Media, an influential news group of which she was a key player. The group was banned from the major platforms at the height of its success. You’ll see for yourself how deep the State’s tentacles go.Carey Wedler is a content creator who focuses on breaking through authoritarian programming to promote peace, freedom, decentralization, and the evolution of consciousness. She previously worked as a journalist and editor-in-chief for the now-banned Anti-Media, an independent news organization. My fun interview with Tyrone The Porcupine Hobo

Click here for the video link on YouTubeI had a great time conversing with Tyrone the Porcupine Hobo!He talked about his interesting handle, and his backstory as a second generation libertarian born on the day America died (yes, he explains this). He spent some time talking about how he tends to be short-term black pilled, but long-term white pilled. And I take a crack at chipping away at some of those black pills.Tyrone the Porcupine Hobo is the co-host, producer and editor of the Haman Nature show, which can be found on: YouTube, Substack, Rumble, and X.He studied philosophy as an undergraduate, is a former casino marketing executive, was on the editorial board for the Agorist Writers Workshop, a former member of the Libertarian Party of Minnesota executive committee, a published short story author, a freelance audio and video producer, and currently works in finance. He fosters rescue dogs, is a pinball and bowling enthusiast, and a diehard perennially disappointed Vikings football fan.You can reach him at [email protected] links to material we covered in this episode:The Remnant, from Isaiah’s Job, by Albert J. My interview with Prof. Michael Huemer

Click here for the video link on YouTubeI hope you enjoy my conversation with Professor Michael Huemer as much as I did.If you have not read his book “The Problem of Political Authority”, you’ve missed a baseball bat to the kneecap of the State. It’s basically a take-down of every known philosophical or intellectual justification for statism. If that isn’t enough, the second part of his book explains why a stateless society based on anarcho-capitalistic principles is feasible, and indeed, superior to statism. The general focus of the interview was the psychology of statism. But it led to so many related tangents that it can’t be summarized here. It was a fun ride with a leading advocate of freedom.Prof. Huemer’s bio:Michael Huemer received his BA from UC Berkeley and his PhD from Rutgers University. He is presently professor of philosophy at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is the author of more than 90 academic articles in ethics, epistemology, political philosophy, and metaphysics, as well as about twelve brilliant and amazing books that you should immediately buy, including Knowledge, Reality, and Value (2021), Progressive Myths (2024), and Dialogues on Ethical Vegetarianism (2025).Prof. Huemer’s websiteHis Amazon author page“The Problem of Political Authority”“Progressive Myths”His Substack page “Fake Nous”Here are some links to other interesting topics we covered...Narrated story of the 20th Century Motor Company, excerpted from Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged”The Milgram ExperimentsStockholm SyndromeThe Asch Conformity Experiment...My full, free 23-part Myth of Authority MasterclassSince some may be new to libertarian perspectives, here is a short list of links you may find helpful. I go through how you, the user, will be able to navigate dynamically, and get whatever level of detail you like along the way.It should be especially interesting to see how newcomers to the material respond to it.I also take some time to make clear what I mean by the term “White Pill”. Dave Smith, as representative of the movement. Plus, a Thought Experiment

Click here for the video link on YouTubeIn this episode we start off with a look at our 2 types of libertarian messengers.Principled messengers keep the moral flame alive; petty political details are irrelevant.Conventional messengers focus on dealing with contemporary statist policies. It’s statism on statism’s terms. At heart they are anti-state, but downplay their anti-statism views.I discuss Dave Smith, one of our most prominent and talented liberty advocates. He serves as an ideal representation of this aspect of the conventional messaging style. Identifying as anarchist, but not mentioning it often. But he also represents both types, in this way: he assumes a free society is far, far down the road.I displayed this simple graph, to represent how major social changes can happen quickly…Things go along for what seems to be forever, with no change (for example, slavery, across human history). That’s the horizontal part of the line. Then a transition period happens, an inflection point in the curve, where things change quickly. After that, the original conditions are flipped (again using slavery as an example, slavery is no longer condoned). Now the curve takes the opposite direction, into the extended future. The stable conditions (before and after) take up most of history. But the inflection period…the transition…covers a fairly short time.I use this to illustrate the pattern for what is likely to be the transition to a free society. With that as a backdrop, we then engage in a thought experiment. Suppose you could see 15-20 years ahead. Suppose it shows clear, unmistakable signs that the myth of authority is eroding. The debate is over, as to when we’ll know the state’s days are numbered…we’ve started the inflection point. With that fore-knowledge, we ask some interesting questions.Get ready for an intriguing episode! Some links to material we covered in this episode:The RemnantEpisode 23 of my series, discussing conventional vs. principled messagingEpisode 20 of my series, discussing the likelihood of the transition to a free society playing out over the next several generationsMy full, free 23-part Myth of Authority Masterclass Since some may be new to libertarian perspectives, here is a short list of links you may find helpful. Art, and Viewer Questions about Critical Thinking

Click here for the video link on YouTubeThis episode starts off explaining how I've changed the name of my content from "From the White Pillbox" to simply "The White Pillbox". I've also changed the intro and outro segments. Then I move on to art. I had some viewer questions about the painting that appears behind me. So I gave a bit of history. Incidentally, I used the wrong word for the process used to create the painting. I said "stereolithography" when I should have said "seriolithography". My bad.And that led to my sharing yet another beautiful painting, this one generously gifted to me from Stephan Kinsella. I was so happy to share this with you all. I couldn’t do better than Stephan in describing the meaning behind the painting and its original source sculpture: “I think it nicely evokes liberty, humanity, freedom, cooperation, love, the natural order, the whole bit”.Be sure to check out the related links below. And the meat of the episode: addressing viewer questions about critical thinking, especially in relation to my Myth of Authority series.Stephan Kinsella’s Story of a Libertarian Book coverThe H.C.
