In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil and host Les Norman talk about how insecurities impact our relational intimacy and vulnerability with God, our spouses, and our community. We are all born with hearts traumatized by sin, but we were made for connection and intimacy. Our insecurities because of sin are carried into marriage and often cause patterns of dysfunction. Sharing those insecurities with your spouse and community requires humility, grace, and vulnerability. Join Pastor Phil and Les as they answer questions like… How do you deal with insecurities in relationships? How do couples identify the dysfunctions in their marriages? How should spouses respond when their mate shares an insecurity with them? What are the fruits of repentance? Ep 120Walking in Love | The Well Podcast S3E14
Clayton King is back on The Well podcast with Pastor Phil and Les Norman to talk about walking in love and keeping the fire alive in marriage. Clayton challenges us to answer the question, “Are you walking in love right now?” Falling in love is just the beginning. Walking in love for a lifetime is the real treasure. Walking in love is a daily habit. In marriage, you can’t maximize the gift God has given you in your spouse and the idea of being one flesh if you aren’t walking in love. You become one flesh when you get married, but the goal is to continue to grow in the depth of friendship over time. The Song of Solomon is a beautiful illustration of the gift of friendship God gives married couples in their spouses. We need to understand how God delights in us so we can learn how to delight in our spouses. Your goal is to be the world’s leading expert on your spouse and know them intimately. Walking in love is a miracle, a choice, and a work, because love is more than something you fall into. Clayton shares three steps married Christian couples should take to keep the fire alive in their marriage: Pray together Regularly attend worship services together Talk about spiritual things The primary goal of marriage is not individual happiness, but corporate holiness for the glory of God. God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him. When you’re looking to your spouse to bring you happiness, you are looking at them to bring you something only Jesus can do for you. The only one who will love you perfectly without fail is Jesus. True love is when you know somebody intimately, with all their hitches and hang-ups, and yet you still love them. The goal isn’t for you to change your spouse, but to love them the way they are. Walking in love requires time, effort, and sacrifice. You won’t drift into a marriage that is full of love. You have to stoke the flames! Ep 119Generosity and the Kingdom of God | The Well Podcast S3E13
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil and Pastor Chad talk about the Sermon on the Mount and what that sermon reveals about the Kingdom of God and stewarding our treasures. The Kingdom of God is the rule of God in our hearts. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus declares Himself the Messiah and tells us what the Kingdom of God is all about. When we receive Jesus as the King of our lives, we are welcomed into an upside-down kingdom where things are completely opposite from the world. Jesus tells us that where your treasure is, there your heart is. If you know how to see money biblically, you know that God doesn’t want you to give it all away. He wants you to understand that He owns it and that it all belongs to Him. We are only stewards of the money God has given us. What does it take to be generous? You don’t have to be rich to be generous; you just have to be generous. Generosity is born out of the size of the sacrifice, not out of the size of the gift. In the Kingdom of God, the generous person is the one who sacrifices to give their gift. Money is amoral. It is not the issue, but your attitude toward it is the issue. If you don’t have the right perspective on money, you’ll never have enough of it. When money is what you treasure on earth, you’ll always desire a little bit more. But if you are saving and stewarding your money wisely, recognizing it all belongs to God, you can enjoy the things God gives you. Are you the kind of person God can trust with more money? If you can’t be faithful with the little things, God cannot trust you with the bigger things. Anytime you play it safe, you’re not living to the glory of God. As a Father, God wants to bless His sons and daughters. God blesses you not based on what you have, but based on what you do with what you have. Ep 118Who is My Neighbor? | The Well Podcast S3E12
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil and Pastor Chad talk about the parable of the Good Samaritan and answer the question, “Who is my neighbor?” The Jews thought that loving their neighbor meant loving people who were like them and who were close to them. But Jesus challenged that mindset with the parable of the Good Samaritan. The parable of the Good Samaritan teaches us that we have to balance our care for people with sharing the gospel. If we’re not sharing the gospel, then what have we accomplished when we care for people? The most prevailing emotion Jesus expressed in the gospels was compassion. You can’t love God and not love your neighbor, and vice versa. As you grow in your love for God, you should be growing in your heart and compassion for the weak. Does loving your neighbor mean you should help everyone who is in need at any time and in any way possible? Sometimes, if we can’t do everything, we just decide to do nothing. The reality is, you can’t do everything, but God is calling you to do something. Do for someone what you wish you could do for everyone. The parable of the Good Samaritan is a story about preserving human life, caring for people, and believing that everyone has value in God’s eyes. The Samaritan believed that everyone matters to God, and he allowed compassion to move him to action. Your identity dictates your activity. If your identity is rooted in Jesus, you will love your neighbor because Jesus loves them. Join the pastors as they discuss how to love your neighbor and be moved with compassion! Ep 117The Dangers of Covetousness | The Well Podcast S3E11
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil and Les talk about idolatry, greed, and covetousness. Our idols lie dormant, but they can quickly resurrect themselves at any time. The way you battle idolatry is by intentionally pursuing the things God treasures. Don’t wait until you feel like treasuring it. Start pursuing it even when your heart doesn’t fully treasure it! Pursuing the things of God and the things of heaven is how you battle covetousness and greed and develop a heart for what God loves. Jesus taught that your spirituality cannot be measured by what you have materially. Your heart follows your treasure. Covetousness takes us away from living the abundant life. When you live a life that’s greedy, you are consumed by your idols. No matter how much you make, if you don’t deal with your greed, it will never feel like enough. You don’t battle covetousness by making more money, but by purposefully living generously. Jesus talked about money more than any other subject. He knew that for those people who don’t know the abundant life in Christ, money will be their god and their master. Until we change our mindset about money, we will never fully give our hearts to God as our master. You can’t be thankful without first being grateful. Contentment comes from godliness, which is pursuing God and valuing the things of God. Thankfulness comes from being content with what God gave us. When you understand God is the Author of your life and everything you have is because of His grace, your begin to live with the mindset of a steward of your lives and resources. Use the things God has given you for His glory and to bring eternal fruit. If you don’t do that, you squander what God gave you instead of stewarding what God gave you. We run an eternal race with an imperishable crown. If we run for the right things, we’ll get that imperishable crown one day. Ep 116A Changed Life Changes Lives | The Well Podcast S3E10
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil and Les are joined by Pastor Jonathan Buttram, the pastor of Re:generation recovery ministry at Abundant Life. Pastor Jonathan talks about the life change he has seen through Re:generation and shares his testimony of coming to faith in Jesus. Re:generation is a transformative ministry that combines discipleship and recovery, offering a path to freedom, peace, and hope for both the spiritually healthy and those struggling. Everyone has struggles, and Satan wants to steal, kill, and destroy the things God wants to do through us. Re:generation is about taking back stolen ground from the enemy and reconciling people to bear God’s witness. Healing is a journey, not a destiny. We have to go through a daily process of taking our thoughts captive because the lies of the enemy create a counterfeit reality that takes us into captivity and stops us from living life abundantly. But Jesus said the truth will set us free. If you believe what He says, He will restore you to abundant life. As believers, our job is to reproduce and carry the message of reconciliation to the world through evangelism and discipleship. The world emphasizes head knowledge, but God desires heart transformation. Biblical discipleship is about building a relationship with another believer and passing on maturity and wisdom to them. A changed life changes lives. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we receive the power of God, and we get to be a supernatural witness to the lost people around us. Think intentionally and purposefully about seeking relationships and opportunities to share Jesus with people. Two questions to ask yourself if you’re a follower of Jesus: Am I living out the Great Commission? Am I living out the Great Commandment? The call of every Christian is to reach the lost with the gospel and teach them how to follow Jesus. There are many forms of discipleship, so we encourage you to prayerfully consider what next step God is inviting you to take and anticipate the life change He is going to bring! Ep 115The Gift of Abundant Life | The Well Podcast S3E9
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Les, and Olivia talk about how to follow Jesus as the Good Shepherd and live the abundant life He offers. They emphasize that following Jesus is about more than just salvation; it's about pursuing sanctification and consecrating your life to Him. We receive the gift of life abundantly when we confess Jesus as our Savior and consecrate our lives to Him. Many Christians today are like the Ancient Israelites, with enough faith to get out of Egypt but not enough faith to come into the Promised Land. The Israelites chose to wander in the wilderness for 40 years because they forgot God’s faithfulness. If we want to live abundantly, we cannot settle for an average or apathetic life. We must remember and rely on God’s faithfulness to have the endurance to press on toward the fullness of His promises. Our primary calling is to intimacy with God, not ministry. The conversation highlights the importance of growing intimacy with God, recognizing that true growth comes from God's work in believers, not their work for God. Listeners are challenged to examine what might be hindering them from fully embracing the gift of life abundantly in Jesus. Pastor Phil shares a transformational truth that has sustained him through 25 years of ministry: the difference between commitment and consecration. He emphasizes that Jesus calls believers to a daily Calvary road of suffering, requiring them to deny themselves and take up their cross daily. Referencing Ephesians 6, he also discusses spiritual warfare and the need to "stand" on the finished work of Calvary, resisting the enemy's attempts to steal the ground Christ has already won. Fruitfulness comes from remaining in Christ. The abundant life is a life of eternal value with supernatural power, freedom, victory, and liberty that we could not live apart from Christ. Ep 114Sharing the Gospel with Boldness | The Well Podcast S3E8
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil is joined by Pastor Jeremy to talk about missions and living sent. Jeremy believes he wouldn’t be where he is if he hadn’t said yes to the invitation he received to go on his first mission trip in 2007. He talks about how taking next steps is vital in our relationship with the Lord. Your destination is only discovered as you’re going in that direction. We should pray for boldness daily as we seek God’s plan for our lives and practice sharing the gospel with our neighbors and the nations. In the Book of Acts, the early Christians didn’t pray for safety, security, healing, or a better job. They prayed for boldness. Every time the Christians prayed they were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to proclaim the gospel. What if we began to pray like the early church and started to live on mission in boldness? When God calls you to live on mission, the only thing to ask for is boldness. If you want to have a burden for the lost, ask God to open your eyes to the needs around you. You cannot begin to have a heartbeat for the nations until you see those people the way God sees them and begin to interact with their cultures and lifestyles. Jeremy challenges listeners to consider taking the next step by signing up for a short-term mission trip. Pastor Phil and Pastor Jeremy talk about how the number one enemy of evangelism in America is distraction. They challenge listeners to think about how they can create an Acts 2 lifestyle in the United States and practice sharing the gospel with the lost. If you are wondering what God’s purpose is for your life, look no further than the example of the early church. God calls you to share the gospel with boldness, and He will equip you if you have a willing heart. Don’t forget to click the “bell” to SUBSCRIBE to get more videos like this to grow your faith! Ep 113The Biblical View of Marriage and Love | The Well Podcast S3E7
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil and Les talk about the biblical view of marriage and how spouses can meet each other’s emotional needs. Men and women are equal, but not the same. We’re all created in the image and likeness of God, but the fact that we’re equal doesn’t mean we’re the same. Society fails to recognize and appreciate the differences between men and women and tries to teach us that equality means sameness. Men and women have different emotional needs, and you must be willing to learn the emotional needs of your spouse and get to know them by being a student of them. These emotional needs are not learned, they’re innate needs we are born with. In Song of Solomon, we see Solomon and the Shulamite compliment each other openly and make emotional deposits into each other’s accounts. These emotional deposits are how you fall in love. If you feel that you’ve fallen out of love, do the things that made you fall in love in the first place. When you feel like you don’t have the emotion, go back to the source of love: God! You can’t look to another human being to give you life when only the life-giver, Jesus, can give you love. God holds love and marriage very dear because He is love. His character is love. As His image bearers, we were created to love and be loved. God demonstrated His love for us by sending Christ to die for us, and this is the sacrificial love men are to show their wives. This is why He takes the breaking of the marriage covenant so seriously. Three types of love in your marriage: Agape love – Loving your spouse unconditionally. Eros love – Sexual love shared by a husband and wife. Phileo – The love shared by close friends. The biblical view of marriage says that wives submit to their husbands' leads, and husbands submit to their wives' needs. We don’t have any chance of submitting to another if we’re not submitting to God first. Don’t forget to click the “bell” to SUBSCRIBE to get more videos like this to grow your faith! Ep 112Biblical Wisdom for Romantic Relationships | The Well Podcast S3E6
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Chad is back with Les to discuss how to navigate romantic relationships in a way that honors God. The Bible is full of wisdom that can be applied in various areas of our lives, including romantic relationships. When you apply the word of God to your life, it begins to dictate your relationship. Our romantic relationships are just a shadow of our greater relationship with Jesus Christ. Most people don’t know what they need to be doing to prepare for dating and marriage, but they are longing for that next phase in their lives. One of the best gifts you can give your future family is to get healthy spiritually. A stable person will create a stable family. Our culture treats romantic relationships with the mindset that you need to “try before you buy.” When we put too much stock in the physical, we get things out of balance. If you don’t determine if you’re compatible socially, relationally, and theologically, you will become disappointed by the sexual parts of your relationship. When you seek counsel and wisdom, you posture your romantic relationship in humility, and you want that heart to continue in marriage. If you want your marriage to thrive, you have to have two people who are fully surrendered and submitted to the Lord. The single most important decision you will make in your life outside of your relationship with Jesus is who you marry. While you are dating, there are a few things you need to do to prepare for marriage: Keep God as your focus. Date in community. Go through a wisdom process. Seek the Lord individually and together. Ep 111What Does the Bible Say About Dating? | The Well Podcast S3E5
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Chad and Les talk about what the Bible says about dating, sex, and how to walk in purity. There’s resistance against walking in purity in Christian culture when that should be something we highly value. Our culture is all over the map when it comes to how to navigate dating relationships. There’s no line when it comes to sexual immorality in our culture. The Bible is clear: flee sexual immorality! It uses poetic language to talk about God’s design for sex. His intent is for sex to happen only within marriage between a man and a woman. Your sex life should bring you closer to God, but if you don’t use it in the right place, it will be destructive. God is holy, and He wants us to be like Him. Although the Bible does not specifically talk about dating, it does tell us that God wants us to walk in sexual purity. When you practice sexual purity, you’re becoming more like Him and showing that you want to honor Him. Practical ways to honor each other in dating: Walk in a way that honors the Lord. Seek accountability. Surrender your purity to the Lord. Pray without ceasing! You can’t rewrite the story you’ve lived up to this point, but you can make a decision today that changes the ending of your story. No one is beyond the grace of God. The devil will call you by your shame even though he knows your name; Jesus will call you by your name even though He knows your shame! The story of God’s redemption is a story that can be lived! Ep 110An Honest Conversation About Singleness | The Well Podcast S3E4
In this episode of The Well, Katie Ward, the Crossroads Ministry Leader, joins Pastor Phil and Les to talk about the gift of singleness. Katie shares how singleness allows her to live lighter and gives her freedom with her desires, time, and finances. She also has an honest conversation with Pastor Phil and Les about the seasons of struggle, loneliness, and contentment she’s walked through in singleness. Marriage is not a reward. It is a gift that God gives, and so is singleness. You don’t have to be married to experience the greatest love this life offers. As a believer, your mission is to fulfill God’s mission and in doing that, to become more like Christ. That will bring more fulfillment than any other pursuit. As you pursue Christ, He will help you to be content in singleness. It’s easy to glorify marriage because of what we see on social media, but we only see the good things. Many people get married with false expectations, which leads to frustration. For singles, it is important to look for someone who has godly character qualities and is actively working to become more like Jesus. Your spouse does not complete you, but they can complement you as you pursue God’s mission together. Katie encourages singles to be confident and content in who they are becoming in Christ and to live in community. Having a healthy relationship with people who will help you grow in godliness is essential. Join us as we answer questions about singleness, including… Does singleness hinder ministry? What godly character qualities should singles look for in a partner? Does physical attraction matter in marriage? How can parents help their children in a season of singleness? Ep 109The Rapture, the Bride, and the Return of Christ | The Well Podcast S3E3
Studying the historical and cultural context of the Bible helps us better understand our relationship with Christ and what we should do while we wait for Him to return. The love story recorded in Song of Solomon depicts the three stages of a Hebrew wedding. This story gives us hope in the promise of the return of Christ. In Hebrew culture, an engagement was binding and unbreakable. That’s the same as the covenant Christ made with us. Solomon would have told his bride that he would build a room for her and then return for her when it was ready. In the same way, the return of Christ will happen when God tells Jesus to go get His bride. While we wait, He wants us to prepare by being a chaste and holy bride. What does it mean to be a chaste, holy bride? Sin makes us spiritual adulterers. Compromising with sin hurts our Bridegroom deeply. We practice holiness and prepare ourselves by keeping our hearts focused on Jesus. Saving our hearts solely for Jesus allows us to be prepared for the return of Christ. Many people in Christian circles debate when and how the return of Christ will happen. The pattern of Scripture supports a Pre-Tribulation rapture. We must prepare like every day could be the day! The way you prepare is by saying “I do” to the One who said “I do” to you. The good news of the gospel is that if you are in Christ, He no longer sees your sin! On the cross, He took our sin-stained robes and replaced them with a pure, clean, robe of righteousness. You can be ready for the return of Christ by saying yes to Jesus today! Ep 108God’s Redeeming Love | The Well Podcast S3E2
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil and host Les Norman talk about the redeeming love of Christ pictured in the Song of Solomon. Song of Solomon tells the story of a man and woman and a love that lasted a lifetime. 1 Kings 4 tells us that Solomon composed more than a thousand songs during his lifetime, but he believed this one was the song of all time. Why was Solomon considered an authority on marriage? Although he was a wise and godly king, he had 700 wives and 300 concubines (1 Kings 11:3). Despite this, God used Solomon to write a story of His redeeming love for us in the Song of Solomon. Like Solomon’s Shulamite bride, we’ve lost our spiritual purity because of sin. But the good news of the gospel is that our worst failure does not define us. Jesus’ redeeming love saved us from our shame and pain and looked beyond our sins. He sees something beautiful and desirable, just like Solomon saw in the Shulamite. Song of Solomon gives us timeless wisdom for pursuing relationships in singleness, dating, and marriage. Singles: Pursue contentment in your season, even while wanting to get married. Focus on being a good friend to the people in your life. Embrace the truth that in Christ, you are as complete as you will ever be! Married people: Walk in God’s love. Offer forgiveness. Prioritize your relationship with the Lord first. Your relationships can only be as healthy as your relationship with the Lord! We cannot love another person perfectly. You must walk in God’s redeeming love to have any chance at loving others or receiving love. Don’t forget to click the “bell” to SUBSCRIBE to get more videos like this to grow your faith! Ep 107God’s Call to the Abundant Life | The Well Podcast S3E1
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil and host Les Norman kick off season 3 by discussing how to discern God's call and live the abundant life He offers. Discerning God’s call doesn’t mean waiting for a burning bush! Sometimes people are waiting for an unmistakable epiphany from Him, but that’s not the reality of how God leads most of the time. The voice of God is found in the Word of God. When you are reading the Word of God, you hear the voice of God. You’re never too young or too old to obey God and step out to do something new for Him. God promises to bless our obedience. Obedience is often costly, but only as you put your faith in motion does God go into motion. In the journey, God is preparing you for your destiny. He wants to develop your character and your faith as you seek to discern His call. God confirms the calling He’s placed on your life when you put your faith in motion. The abundant life is about a life lived fruitfully for the things of eternity. Anything that’s healthy will grow to maturity. The mark of spiritual maturity is when you start to bear the fruit of lives changed by Jesus. Discerning God’s call requires us to die to ourselves if we want to bear fruit. Healthy things grow, and growing things change. The abundant life is also an adventurous life. Control gives us a mirage of security, while change makes us feel like we’re out of control. The truth is that change is inevitable, and it is always coming. We can either embrace and lean into God, or we can embrace change apart from God. God’s call on your life may lead to change, but it also can lead to abundant growth. Thanks for joining us this week! Listen to The Abundant Life Family Podcast ↴ https://www.youtube.com/playlist... Ep 106The Reason for Christmas | The Well Podcast S2E13
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman talk about how the five women in Jesus’ genealogy give the story behind the story and the reason for Christmas. The virgin birth is an essential element of our salvation. Only a virgin-born Savior could be sinless and bear the penalty of our sin. Why was the virgin birth essential? Because only the death of an innocent man could reverse the curse of sin on men for all time. We sin because we are born sinners. Jesus was born of a virgin so that He would not be born with Adam’s sin. Mary’s story is one of the few in the Bible where no sin is named. But that does not mean that she was sinless. The fact that the Bible is silent on her sin doesn’t mean she’s sinless, but it does show she’s a pretty good, righteous, religious person. Mary stands in contrast to the other four women in the genealogy. She received the gift of being the mother of the Son of God without fully understanding the gift. She made herself available to be a servant of the Lord. Her heart posture was honor, excitement, and worship. Like Mary, we need to have a heart that’s open to what God wants to do in our lives. Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone. That’s the only way it works! We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and everyone, regardless of their life experience or status, needs a Savior in Jesus. A religious person says, “I can save myself!” A humble person admits they are a sinner and need a Savior, like Mary. Where are you putting your hope in to get to heaven? Good people don’t get to heaven. Forgiven people get to heaven. Mary’s story reminds us that Jesus is the reason for Christmas! Thanks for joining us this week! Ep 105Hope is Found in Jesus | The Well Podcast S2E12
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Nick, and host Les Norman talk about how our hope is found in Jesus. The Hebrews would have been intimately familiar with the story of David and Bathsheba. This story would have grieved Matthew’s audience as they recounted a sad, tragic memory in Israel's history. David acknowledged his sin before the Lord when the Prophet Nathan called him out. He was quick to repent and make things right with God. Then, God promised to establish a new king in his line who would redeem the sins of adultery and murder. How do you respond when you’re confronted with the truth of your sin? Do you respond in humility, or become angry? David humbled his heart before God. David’s being a man after God’s heart had nothing to do with being sinless, but everything to do with his heart posture. The Davidic Covenant God made with David could not be broken. Jesus fulfilled that promise and was called the Son of David. When Jesus returns, He will sit on the throne of David in Jerusalem. Our hope for eternity is in Jesus. Our lives are all marked by sin because we’re under the curse of Adam. If we repent and turn to Jesus, we will get a new name. God is our Father, and He offers a relationship to us. He brings us into His family as sons and daughters so we are redeemed. Our hope is in Jesus for a new name and a new identity! Thanks for joining us this week! Ep 104God is in the Details of Our Stories | The Well Podcast S2E11
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil and host Les Norman are joined by Olivia Poettgen, the content writer at Abundant Life. They talk about the story of Ruth and how God is in the details of our story and redeems our grief and suffering. In the Book of Ruth, a miracle was in the making. But sometimes miracles happen so slowly and subtly that you can’t see them. The miracle in this book was redemption. God was in the details of Naomi and Ruth’s lives, redeeming their stories in ways they could not see or understand. No one is exempt from pain and suffering. When life doesn’t go like you thought it would, you can be tempted to become embittered. Naomi changed her name to Mara, meaning “bitter.” She was so grief-stricken she could not see past her bitterness and heartache. But Ruth’s story reminds us that what we can see isn’t everything. God is weaving a greater story behind the scenes and He is orchestrating every detail. Faith isn’t just sitting around and waiting for God to do something. It requires action. Ruth trusted God to provide for her, but she used the resources He had given her to put that faith into action. Her story demonstrates how God is in the details of our lives, working behind the scenes to redeem and restore what is lost. Jesus is our only hope of redemption. In the midst of grief, sadness, and heartache, don’t forget to make worship the center of your celebration. The key to walking through grief and suffering is thanksgiving and praise. Worship is our weapon against bitterness. Sometimes, we need to remind ourselves of God's goodness and character because He is the only one who brings comfort, healing, and joy. Ep 103God’s Forgiveness and Rahab’s Faith | The Well Podcast S2E10
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil and host Les Norman talk about God’s forgiveness and Rahab’s faith in Joshua 2. Rahab was a pagan Canaanite prostitute living in Jericho. God had promised that city to the Israelites, but because they were fearful and lacked faith, they wandered in the wilderness outside Jericho for 40 years. While the Israelites lived in fear of the Canaanites, the Canaanites lived in fear of the Hebrew God. Fear always distorts reality and keeps us from seeing what God has promised us and has in store for us. Rahab had heard about the Hebrew God and knew about Him drying up the Red Sea, destroying the Egyptian army, and leading the Israelites out of captivity. She believed in this God, and her faith eventually saved her and her family from being destroyed by the Israelite army. Rahab knew that her Canaanite gods were false gods. She believed in God and in His power before she met the two Hebrew spies she hid in her house. God used Rahab to demonstrate that your works and life change are the reflection of your salvation in Christ. Rahab’s faith in God was authenticated by her willingness to jeopardize her own life to save the spies. Hiding the spies didn’t save Rahab, but it revealed that she was saved by Jesus. God wants us to know that where sin abounded, grace abounded much more. There’s no sin so great that God’s forgiveness can’t cover it. If God can save a pagan prostitute, He can save anyone from their sin. Learn how Rahab’s faith and God’s forgiveness give us hope that God’s grace can save and redeem anyone! Ep 102God’s Redemptive Plan for Man | The Well Podcast S2E9
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Toshaun and Pastor Nick are back with Pastor Chad to talk about God’s redemptive plan for man. God’s plan to redeem and restore us to a relationship with Him is clearly illustrated through the five women Jesus’ genealogy. We often think that God uses clean, moral people to accomplish His purposes, but that is not the case. The Bible is full of stories where God redeems terrible, negative circumstances for a person’s good and His glory. It’s okay to not know or understand why God does something, but we need to understand His character and sovereignty. If we allow ourselves to wrestle with Him through tough circumstances, then we’ll come out on the other side with a stronger relationship and faith in Him If we’re going to allow God’s redemptive work to play out in our lives, we must recognize our need for Him. God is making all things new in our lives, and we need to be reminded of the truth of His promises in His Word. He is in the business of redeeming and restoring, and His name will be glorified regardless of the situation or circumstance. Take hope that your story isn’t over! If you’re still breathing, God still has plans for you, and He isn’t done writing your story. God’s redemptive plan is to make you new in Jesus. He can take all your broken pieces and turn them into something beautiful you could never become on your own. Our God is a shepherd, and a shepherd walks with His sheep. He draws near to the broken-hearted. Join the pastors as they talk about how God’s redemptive plan is clearly seen in the life of Tamar. Thanks for joining us this week! Ep 101What Is God’s Call for My Life? | The Well Podcast S2E8
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Chad is joined by Pastor Toshaun and Pastor Nick. The pastors share how they were called into ministry and how to discover God’s call for our lives. As a believer, your primary call is to intimacy with God, not ministry. If you are trying to discern God’s call for your life, you need to draw near to Him and go where He’s leading you. Ultimately, God is calling you to trust Him. God puts a calling and gifts on our lives that are irrevocable. Once you discover those things, you need to walk in them! How do you discover what you’re called to do? -look at personality and position -step into various opportunities that the Lord opens doors for -don’t try to be someone you’re not! Questions to ask to discover God’s calling: -God, what have you called me to do? -What is a problem in the world that I just have to fix or have to solve? If you want to know God’s call for your life, you need to draw near to Him. His character is revealed, and as you read God’s Word and discover more about Him, you will discover more about yourself. Ep 100The Joy of Saying Yes to God | The Well Podcast S2E7
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Chad and host Les Norman talk about the rewards of saying yes to God. Pastor Chad and Les are joined by Pastor Bill and Jeremy, who are on staff with the Live Sent ministry at Abundant Life. They share an update on how many kids were sponsored during Compassion Sunday and their vision for sponsoring 1,200 kids in Tanzania. Pastor Bill reminds listeners that you can’t take the gospel to the wrong address. It always needs to go a little bit further. The disciple Thomas had a “little bit further” mindset. He said yes to God and surrendered his life to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. People often use skepticism to justify their doubt and unbelief. But Thomas didn’t do that. He wanted to see Jesus the way that the other disciples did, and Jesus gave him the proof he desired. If you seek Jesus, you will find Him. If you ask the questions, He will give you the answers. All authority belongs to Jesus. That means we are commanded to fulfill the Great Commission by making disciples and taking the gospel to the ends of the earth. God calls us to leave our “yes” on the table and wants us to serve Him with willing and obedient hearts. Missionaries are not made overnight. They are just ordinary people who said yes to God. Because Jesus is alive, His love and forgiveness are alive, and we can be at peace with God. We can live sent right where we are if we’re willing to do it and say yes to God. Ep 99Living Out the Gospel | The Well Podcast S2E6
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman discuss living out the gospel through Abundant Life’s partnership with Compassion International and the church plants in Peru. Compassion deeply cares about people's physical and spiritual needs and is focused on releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name. Pastor Phil shares some stories from his recent trip to Peru, where he visited the Compassion resource center and church plants with which Abundant Life has partnered. He and several church members met and spent time with the kids they sponsor in these areas. We’re all called to live sent and carry out the Great Commission. You can live out the gospel and take it to the nations by sponsoring a child in poverty. Who knows how many lives can be impacted through their lives? You never know what God can do with your yes! Jesus has prepared good works for us to do, and if we are simply obedient to what He asks us to do, He can write a wonderful story. A changed life changes lives. None of us will know on this side of heaven what difference our “yes” made. We will only know in heaven. But we know God will reward our obedience if we’re faithful to follow Him. Will you be obedient to invest in the life of someone younger than you and give them opportunities to foster the gifts and talents God has given them? Living out the gospel may be costly, but it is worth it for people to know Jesus! Thanks for joining us this week! Listen to The Abundant Life Family Podcast ↴ https://www.youtube.com/playlist... Ep 98What Does the Bible Say About Liberty? | The Well Podcast S2E5
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman discuss some of the threats to our freedom as Christians and American citizens. In a time of high emotions, we must think biblically, not politically. Religion shapes culture, and culture shapes laws. Godly people in power bring godly outcomes. But when godly people do not influence the institutions that shape our country, you get ungodly outcomes. We all have a responsibility to understand the history of our country and the values that our Founding Fathers established our country on. We must be ready to defend our freedom, which includes being informed. When God is minimized, government is maximized. We must remain self-governed by God and be reminded that our liberties and rights come from Him, not from government. Voting is a kingdom issue, not a political issue. It is important to vote and stand up to defend our freedom. But we must also recognize that a political leader cannot save our nation. Only God can save our nation. Our job is to pray for our leaders and vote based on kingdom-mindedness. Thanks for joining us this week! Ep 97Teaching Kids a Biblical Worldview | The Well Podcast S2E4
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Chad and host Les Norman talk about raising children to have a biblical worldview. It is a parent’s responsibility to raise their kids and teach them a biblical worldview. You never finish educating your kids. You need to be committed to raising them up to know God’s ways, His voice, and His word so they can develop a biblical worldview. Chad shares some practical things parents can do to pass their faith onto their children: -Seek the Lord in private -Sing to Him in public -Eat around the table together -Pray as a family Part of teaching our children a biblical worldview is teaching them who they are in Christ. Parents are responsible for pointing their children to Jesus as their source of identity. In Christ, they are a new creation, fearfully and wonderfully made. We are the primary faith trainers of our children. If we don’t educate our kids, the world will. Good parents give attention. Great parents give intention. Teaching, training, educating, and discipling kids to have a biblical worldview takes effort and requires sacrifice. But it is so worth it! Thanks for joining us this week! Ep 96Romans 13 and Obedience to Civil Authority | The Well Podcast S2E3
God instituted civil authority for the peace and prosperity of society, apart from which there would be anarchy. We are called to obey governing authorities (Romans 13:1-4), but God is our ultimate authority. God’s primary purpose for human government is to protect its citizens from violent offenders. The biblical responsibility of government is to maintain order and peace in society. Paul wrote Romans to help people understand who they are in Christ and how to live justified and sanctified in a secular culture. Faith has always intersected with politics because religion shapes culture, and culture shapes laws. If you want to change laws, you have to change the religion that shaped them. A nation’s legislation is always a reflection of that civilization’s worldview and religion. Our culture was born out of a Judeo-Christian mindset. Faith has intersected politics in every civilization from the earliest moments of human civilization. We need to be filled with the spirit of God to go out and be bold in our respective spheres of influence. Christians involved in ungodly government can bring godly outcomes. Regardless of who is in the White House, it all comes back to the church house. Without civil authority, our country would fall into anarchy. We need to put our hope in a spiritual revival. Trusting Jesus and knowing God’s Word is the only way to experience peace in this time of frustration, division, and fear. Thanks for joining us this week! Ep 95Jesus Is Our Moral Authority | The Well Podcast S2E2
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman discuss the next figure on the National Monument to the Forefathers: Morality. Morally, our society reflects the ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and the church reflects the life of Lot in Genesis 19. Lot knew God, but he fully embraced Sodom’s immoral culture. Romans 3:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus. Morality must come from within. It’s something God must give us when we repent of our sins and turn to Him. As the church, we are to be the salt of the earth and stand in the way of decay. We’re called to be the conscience of society because we live by a higher moral authority. The story ends with Abraham’s intercession for Sodom, which should be our posture: praying for salvation and not judgment for the unbeliever. Our job is to pursue the lost and build relationships with them. But you’ll never have a burden for what you’re not praying for! Have you prayed for the lost people around you? Have you had a conversation with them? Morality comes from the hope of the God of heaven. The win is living a life that is holy, because that is how you experience the abundant life! Ep 94Is There Hope for Us? | The Well Podcast S2E1
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and Les Norman talk about the new sermon series, Hope for Us. Even though we live in a deeply divided world and people feel hopeless, there is hope for us in the gospel! Romans 1 gives us the four steps to abandoning faith in God: Truth suppression. God’s demotion. Man’s promotion. Moral destruction. Many people fool themselves into thinking that they can form the Bible around what they want it to say or make it fit the lifestyle they want. Post-modern philosophy tells us that there is no absolute truth or theology. But the pulpits shape the moral and spiritual climate of the nation, not politics. The Hope for Us series will point us back to the foundations of our faith and where true hope is found. The lie our culture believes is that you need to be “true to yourself” and deny your flesh nothing. But Pastor Phil shares the depravity that happens when you follow this lie. It’s foolishness to think we can do anything apart from God. Our hope is in God. But Christ lives in us which means the hope is also in us! Thanks for joining us this week! Ep 93What Does the Bible Say About Hospitality? | The Well Podcast S1E26
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Chad, Pastor Kyle, and Pastor Jonathan take a deep dive into the practical applications of Hebrews 13. Hebrews 13 offers a long list of ways believers can take their next step to look more like Jesus. The pastors talk about how to live these out and answer the question, “What does the Bible say about hospitality?” Hebrews 13:1-3 calls believers to be hospitable to strangers, believers, and prisoners. This is a command for all believers, not just for the early church. Pastor Kyle shares his take on what the Bible says about hospitality and how he lives that out in his home. Pastors Chad and Jonathan also chime in and share how they are hospitable to others, and the hospitality they’ve received from other believers. Don’t miss the stories that the pastors share about their favorite memories with Pastor Phil and what they admire most about his leadership! If Jesus has changed your life, be hospitable, be faithful to your spouse, visit a prisoner, encourage others, and be excited about their success. Hebrews 13 offers an elephant of application, but Pastor Chad encourages listeners to take things one step and one decision at a time. Thanks for joining us this week! Ep 92All Have Fallen Short of God’s Glory | The Well Podcast S1E25
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman talk about the symbolism of Mount Zion and Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12. Mount Sinai is an example of religion. It’s all about your efforts to reach God. God’s standard is perfection, but we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). It’s impossible for you to bridge the chasm between your sin and God’s perfection. Since we couldn’t reach God, He sent Jesus to bridge the gap. Mount Zion represents grace and forgiveness. Even though we have all fallen short of God’s glory, He only asks us to receive His grace. That’s it. We don’t have to do anything else to earn salvation. The only thing you contribute to salvation is the sin required for it. When Jesus comes again, He will either be your Savior or your Judge. Choose to receive God’s gift of grace and let Jesus fill the gap you can never fill! Be encouraged and reminded that even though we have all fallen short of the glory of God, Jesus offers a way to restore that relationship. Ep 91How to Pursue Peace with All People | The Well Podcast S1E24
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Kyle, Pastor Toshaun, and host Les Norman unpack Hebrews 12:12-17 and how believers should apply it to their lives. Hebrews 12:14-17 makes us hold up a mirror and do some self-introspection. We all have areas of our lives where we need to lighten the load. Unnecessary weight slows us down and keeps us from fulfilling the call God has placed on our lives. Jesus wants us to run with endurance. He wants to help us take off this extra weight, and if it requires chastening, that’s what He will do. We need to receive His chastening with humility. Three ways to lighten your load: Change your perspective. Pursue peace and holiness. Reevaluate your appetite. Christ’s work in your life will bring about refinement and renewal as you look to Him. If you submit to His chastening, you will experience peace, pursue holiness, and receive His grace. Recognition brings surrender. What in your life do you need to surrender to lighten your load? Ep 90Laying Aside Every Weight | The Well Podcast S1E23
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and Bart Cox continue their conversation about running with endurance. They talk about the idea of “laying aside every weight” that the author presents in Hebrews 12:1. You cannot run with endurance if you’re not working to endure things. You have to train to prepare. Part of that training included taking any unnecessary weight out of your pack. We all carry backpacks through life, but we choose what we carry. We need to choose carefully what we carry in our pack. God doesn’t want us to be weighed down by needless weights like bitterness, pride, resentment, or unforgiveness. If you don’t lay that sin or weight down, Jesus will chasten you until you do. How to lay down your weight: -Confession -Forgiveness -Repentance Confession, forgiveness, and repentance are not emotions. They are decisions you put in motion. When God convicts you to lay aside every weight through one of these decisions, you must remember that He chastens you out of love. God takes no joy in His children's pain, but He’s willing to subject us to pain for our gain. God loves us so deeply and unconditionally that He will chasten and discipline us to bring us back to Him. It’s important to learn and realize the value of God’s discipline in our lives. Confess, renounce, and lay aside every weight so you can run with endurance. Ep 89What Does It Mean to Run with Endurance? | The Well Podcast S1E22
In this episode of The Well, Pastor Phil and Pastor Chad are joined by Bart Cox, the Senior Executive Pastor at Abundant Life. Pastor Phil and Bart just got back from a hiking trip in the backcountry of Glacier National Park, and they’ve got lots of stories to share! Bart shares a story about the biking accident that led to his joining the Abundant Life staff and the history of his friendship with Pastor Phil. He now applies the skills he learned in a secular work environment to execute the big visions of Abundant Life. He is also Pastor Phil’s personal trainer. Pastor Phil shares how training for backcountry hikes keeps him physically, mentally, and spiritually strong. He and Bart trained for this hike for months, and they’ve seen physical growth as they built muscle and endurance. The training allowed them to hike with endurance, just like spiritual training—reading the Bible, praying, and living in community—allows us to run the faith race with endurance. No one gets anywhere God wants them to go alone. You need a community to run the race with you. In the Christian life, it’s not about who finishes first; it’s just about finishing the race strong. Don’t focus on the pain; focus on the prize. Don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE to get more videos like this to grow your faith! Ep 88How Does the Church Grow? | The Well Podcast S1E21
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Chad and Les Norman are joined by Kyle Worsham, the Online Pastor at Abundant Life. Kyle shares the heart behind the church house movement and how we can live sent in our communities. Living sent doesn’t require training or a program. There are lost people all around us. All you need is your story and a willing heart to be used by God. Our obedience, as a result of faith, can change our lives and trajectory. It can also change the lives of those around us. God CAN use you despite your sin, but we often put more faith in what the devil says about us than what God says about us. Kyle talks about his struggle with imposter syndrome and shares how he overcame those lies with truth. The church grows because of people who sacrifice time, talent, comfort, relationships, and even their lives for Christ's sake. Reading the biographies of those who have gone before us in Hebrews 11 should fire us up in our faith and encourage us to keep working for God’s kingdom. Jesus is better than everything else. Living for Him is the best thing you can do. Ep 87By Faith, They Obeyed | The Well Podcast S1E20
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman recap what God did at Revival Weekend. They also talk about the examples of Moses, Abraham, and Sarah and what they teach us about obedience by faith. Abraham, Sarah, and Moses obeyed God by faith. They did not know where He was taking them or when they would see the fulfillment of His promises, but they obeyed by faith. However, their lives were not without suffering and pain. Jesus never promised us health, wealth, and prosperity. Being faithful doesn’t guarantee that life won’t be painful. God has promised to save us THROUGH suffering, pain, and hardship, not FROM it. Suffering refines faith. God wants us to see the miraculous nature of His work in our lives. He is developing us so He can deploy us. But the development requires patience. While we wait for God to show us our next steps of faith, we must keep working for Him. Abraham, Moses, and Sarah were average men and women just like us. But God used them because of their faith. Ep 86Biblical Faith Releases God’s Power | The Well Podcast S1E19
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman talk about how to live by faith during the last days. Hebrews 11:5-7 recounts the faith of Enoch and Noah. Enoch set an example for how we should walk with God in the last days, and Noah showed us what it looks like to work for God. If you want to see God move in your life, you must put your faith into action. Faith is the trigger that releases God’s power in your life. But why is faith so hard sometimes? Reasons why faith is hard… Fear of failure Staying comfortable in your comfort zone Giving up control Enoch and Noah worshiped God by being obedient to Him. They walked, worked, and lived by faith. Biblical faith requires you to get outside your comfort zone and risk something for God. When you get in motion, God gets in motion. We live in a society where we can talk the faith game but don’t want to give up control. But living by faith requires giving up control of your life. Enoch’s life reminds us that it’s impossible to please God apart from faith. Biblical faith is never a blind faith. Judgment is coming, but God is a God of salvation and redemption. If you turn to Him, He will forgive your sin. You don’t have a moment to waste! Don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE to get more videos like this to grow your faith! Ep 85Imitating the Heroes of the Faith | The Well Podcast S1E18
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Toshaun and Pastor Nick join host Les Norman to talk about the heroes of the faith in Hebrews 11. Faith is not a feeling; it’s more than an emotion. Your emotions aren’t meant to govern you but to guide you. Many people lead a feelings-based life, but that isn’t the type of life God wants us to live. In Christ, our feelings are transformed into righteous feelings. Because we are under the curse of sin, our feelings often come out in sinful ways. But through Christ, our feelings and emotions can be controlled. We have peace in Him that surpasses our feelings or circumstances. God sees us in our emotions. He meets us in the midst of them and wants them to draw us closer to Him. The heroes of the faith listed in Hebrews 11 point us back to Jesus and give us examples of faith to follow. Every human being has faith in something. It’s impossible to live without faith. You can understand that Jesus is real because there is evidence pointing to Him in all creation. Belief in Him requires faith, but we have plenty of physical evidence in creation to support that faith (Romans 1:20). God desires our obedience. The mark of faith is being obedient to Him without striving to strive and do things in our own power. Christ cannot accept our works until we first come to Him through His work—the Cross. Ep 847/29 | How to Grow in Your Faith | The Well Podcast S1E17
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Chad and Pastor Kyle discuss how to grow in your faith and provide practical tools for reading the Bible, praying, and finding community. Hebrews 10:22-25 calls Christians to do 3 things to continue growing in their faith: Draw near to God. Hold fast to the confession of hope without wavering. Consider one another. Knowing how to grow in your faith and do these things can sometimes be overwhelming. Here are 2 things to reflect on to help you grow: Recall past trials and God’s faithfulness within them. Look forward to the return of Christ and the fulfillment of His promises. Pastor Chad and Pastor Kyle also give two formulas for praying and reading the Bible: ACTS Method for Prayer: Adoration Confession Thanksgiving Supplication SOAP Method for Reading the Bible: Scripture Observation Application Prayer Living in a biblical community is another essential part of growing in your faith. We must draw near to the Lord and each other so that we aren’t a weak church. Ep 83Overcoming Temptation | The Well Podcast S1E16
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil and host Les Norman talk about overcoming temptation. We will struggle with sin and temptation, even as born-again believers. The question is, when your flesh cries out for you to give it something that does not honor God, what will you believe? When you struggle with temptation, you must believe that what God says is true, no matter what you see. God says your flesh is dead, and you’ve been set free from the power of sin. You can overcome temptation by depending on Christ’s power. To overcome temptation, you must submit to God's Word rather than suppressing your desires. The Bible is more than a self-help book. It is living, powerful, and active. We must dive deep into it to renew our minds and bring our flesh under submission to the Spirit. When God forgives us, and we are found in Jesus, He no longer holds our sins to our account. He washes our sins as white as snow. Because of Adam’s sin, the kingdoms of the world belong to Satan. But one day, Satan will bow before God’s throne and confess that Jesus is the King of kings. That should give us hope in a world where it looks like evil is constantly winning. Ep 82Shadows of the New Covenant | The Well Podcast S1E15
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman dive deeper into Hebrews 9 and the shadows of the New Covenant. You cannot understand the New Covenant (New Testament) if you don’t know anything about the Old Covenant (Old Testament). The Old Testament is the picture book of the New Testament. The author of Hebrews said the Old Testament contained prophetic foreshadows of things to come in the New Testament. In the Old Covenant, the Israelites had to sacrifice animals to atone for their sins. There was no forgiveness without the shedding of blood. However, in the New Covenant, our freedom from sin’s penalty and Satan’s captivity was sealed permanently through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. The author of Hebrews is trying to drive home the fact that our entire faith is based on Jesus’ blood. Because of His sacrifice, we have hope, forgiveness, and salvation. You will pay the eternal penalty for your sin if you don't know Christ. Choose to place your faith in Him to experience the freedom He offers under the New Covenant! Ep 81Resources for Studying the Bible | The Well Podcast S1E14
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman answer questions about resources for studying the Bible. The Bible is a self-interpreting book. It is meant to be studied by comparing Scripture with Scripture. You don’t have to be smart to know and understand the Bible, but it’s helpful to have resources. When you read a commentary or other resource for studying the Bible, you must remember that it’s written by a man, so it’s an opinion. A good Bible commentary will accelerate where you’re trying to go. It can cut your study time in half because people have already been where you’re going as you’re studying. Recommended resources for studying the Bible: John Phillips Commentary Ray Stedman Tim Keller J.D. Greer Hebrews For You John McArthur Gotquestions.org As you seek out resources for studying the Bible, it’s important to understand the difference between word-for-word Bible translations and thought-for-thought translations. Every word in the Word of God matters, so it’s important to be able to recognize which sources and translations are most credible. Ep 80What Is the New Covenant? | The Well Podcast S1E13
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman discuss the New Covenant. A covenant is binding, unbreakable, and irrevocable. In God’s covenant, we are saved by grace through faith. We don’t have to do anything. We are declared righteous before God if we believe in Him and surrender our lives to Him. In Hebrews 8, the author clarifies the main point of his letter. He wants people to understand why Jesus is a better High Priest and the freedom of the New Covenant. Jesus’ sacrifice atoned for all our sins. His grace is greater than anything we could ever imagine. Under the Old Covenant, God’s Spirit dwelt in the Tabernacle. Under the New Covenant, believers are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. When you believe in Jesus and make Him Lord of your life, your body becomes a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. You have peace, joy, and freedom like never before, but you also have a responsibility to represent Him and steward the gift of your body well. Ep 79Confidence of Salvation in Christ | The Well Podcast S1E12
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman discuss how Jesus is our anchor, giving us the certainty of salvation. In Hebrews 6:9-20, the author reminds the Hebrews of the things that give them confidence that their salvation in Christ is permanent. He reminds them that they do not gain salvation through works but that their works are a reflection of their salvation. If we had to earn our salvation, we could never do enough. If it was up to us to keep, we never could. However, we can have certainty in our salvation when we build it on the finished work Jesus did on the cross. Some false teachers are still trying to convince Christians that we live under the old covenant. But Jesus freed us from the law through His death and resurrection. He didn’t come to destroy the law but to fulfill it since we couldn’t. We can have hope and security of salvation because God cannot lie. His Word promises that we will be saved if we confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God has raised Him from the dead. This promise is the anchor for our souls. God’s Word has given us plenty of evidence that He is a trustworthy and strong anchor to tether our lives to. Ep 78A Father’s Role | The Well Podcast S1E11
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil and Pastor Chad are joined by Rob and Olivia Poettgen for a special Father’s Day episode. When a religion distorts the genuine Gospel, it diminishes the power of Jesus's finished work. The evidence of being born again is that Jesus has changed us, and the mark of maturity is living in obedience to Jesus. A father’s role is to be the spiritual leader for his family by modeling a life of obedience. Rob shares his testimony of being born and raised Catholic and how that religion impacted his view of God. When he and his wife married, they planned to continue practicing that religion. However, when they moved to Texas, they attended a Baptist church where they heard the Gospel, and each of them started a personal relationship with Jesus. Rob’s life was radically changed again when he had a daughter. He realized that his life was not his own, and parenthood has grown and changed him in many ways over the last 20 years. He shares some practical ways fathers can be spiritual leaders in their homes and reminds them that you can only give away what God has given you. Join Pastor Phil and Pastor Chad as they celebrate a father’s role in the family and discuss how salvation is a gift we receive, not a reward we have to earn. Ep 77How Do I Grow in Spiritual Maturity? | The Well Podcast S1E10
In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman discuss how believers can grow in spiritual maturity. Many Christians are still in infancy spiritually, even after walking with and following Jesus for years. Often, believers think that because they know a lot, they’ve grown a lot. However, a disciple is someone who walks obediently to God, not somebody who’s simply studying deeper theology. To stay on the path of godliness and spiritual maturity, you must clothe yourself with God’s Word. You cannot grow up to look more like the Son of God if you’re not deeply rooted in the Word of God. Many people think they need to attend another sermon, listen to another podcast, or read another book of the Bible to grow in spiritual maturity. However, you grow in spiritual maturity by living in obedience to Jesus. Spiritual maturity is when you die to yourself, deny your desires, and give yourself up to Jesus. God’s love language is obedience. We show Him love when we are obedient to His commandments. Maturity is marked by the distance between God telling you to do something and you being obedient to do it. You’re never beyond closing this gap. Learn about the identifying marks of spiritual maturity in a believer’s life and follow along as Pastor Chad shares a prayer format for believers who want to grow in spiritual maturity. Ep 76The Word of God Is Living and Powerful | The Well Podcast S1E9
In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman talk about how the Word of God is living and powerful in believers’ lives. Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the Word of God is living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword. His Word is true, trustworthy, and eternal. The enemy doesn’t want us to use God’s Word to fight temptation. He wants us to depend on others for revelations from God so that we never discover its power in our lives. But God has given us the Bible, the sword of the spirit and one of our defenses against the enemy. The Bible is meant to be studied. God gave us the Bible to be understood. He wants us to dig in, ask questions, seek Him, and be curious about His Word and ways. That’s why He chose to reveal Himself to us through His Word. When you read the Word of God, ask yourself these 3 questions: What happened? What is God teaching? What does it mean for my life today? Join us as we learn how the Word of God is a living and powerful tool for believers to study, understand, and apply to their lives!
