Show Notes

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Washington Weather Podcast — it's Thursday, February 26th. Step outside right now and that south wind will hit you like a wake-up call. Gusts to 25 miles an hour from Puget Sound north. It's loud and it's relentless. We're at 40 degrees under clear skies. But the state's split wide open today. Puget Sound starts at 42 and climbs to 51. South Sound sits cooler at 38, topping out at 50 this afternoon. Now head east of the Cascades and it's a completely different morning. Eastern Washington wakes up to 30 degrees with a wind chill that drops it to 23. That's the kind of cold that bites. By afternoon you'll hit 47 under mostly sunny skies. Rain arrives around noon for the western lowlands. Peaks around 5 P.M. Then tapers off after midnight. Eastern Washington stays bone dry through Friday. The North Cascades are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 4 A.M. Friday. Above 2,500 feet you're looking at up to 12 inches of snow. Winds gusting to 35 miles an hour could snap branches. If you're traveling the passes, expect full winter conditions. Tonight, western Washington holds in the upper 30s to low 40s. Eastern Washington drops to 33. Friday brings another round of rain to the west. Highs near 51 again. Then the weekend? Beautiful. High pressure slides in. Saturday brings partly sunny skies and 50 degrees. Sunday turns sunny with 52. Monday warms to 54 under mostly sunny skies. . Because Tuesday night into Wednesday our next system rolls through with rain statewide. One bright note — we're gaining over three minutes of daylight today. Sunrise at 6:57 A.M., sunset at 5:50 P.M. Spring equinox is just three weeks out. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
