Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Washington Weather Podcast — it's Tuesday, February 24th.
If you stepped outside this morning, you felt it. That damp, heavy air clinging to everything. We're sitting at 39 degrees under a blanket of gray that's not going anywhere fast. The good news? We're gaining daylight like crazy. Sunrise hit at 7:00:40 A.M., sunset comes at 5:47:21 P.M.. And we've added three minutes and 21 seconds since yesterday. Spring's creeping closer.. Just not today.
Down in Puget Sound, you're looking at a classic Pacific Northwest day. Moist, mild, moody. You'll hit 47 degrees around 4 P.M., then slide back to 39 by 2 A.M. There's a slight chance of rain around 3 A.M., but we're talking sprinkles, not soakers. Winds stay light, shifting from north-northwest to southeast around 6 P.M. Tonight drops to 37 degrees with that same lingering drizzle.
Head east and winter's still got a grip. Rain and snow mix through 9 A.M., with the heaviest stuff around 3 A.M. Temperatures hover near freezing — 35 degrees at 7 A.M., climbing to just 42 by 3 P.M. But here's the kicker. It'll feel like 30 degrees around 3 A.M. Thanks to that damp chill that cuts right through your jacket. Tonight, more of the same. Lows around 32 with rain and snow tapering off.
South Sound sees rain chances peak early — 45 percent around 3 A.M. — before backing off. Highs reach 46 degrees by 2 P.M., then drop to 36 by 1 A.M. By then it'll feel like 31 degrees.
Here's your week ahead. Wednesday brings likely rain, especially around Puget Sound, with winds gusting to 21 miles an hour. Thursday? More rain, highs stuck in the 40s and 50s. But Saturday finally breaks the pattern. Mostly sunny skies return. And by Sunday we're back to 50 degrees. Monday flirts with 51 — a real taste of early spring.
Roads are slick this morning. Watch for puddles freezing overnight, especially east of the Cascades.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
