Ep 114Recapping the 2023 Orioles (Ep. 116)
Time can help provide perspective. It can also be used as an excuse for not recording an episode in about a month. I’ll let you guess as to which is the reason for the delay in getting you a pod recapping the 2023 Orioles. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Orioles play a baseball game. They were most recently being swept by the now-World Series champion Texas Rangers. Does it make it sting a little less than the Rangers went on to win the whole thing? Maybe, maybe not. We can all admit at this point that the 2023 Orioles were a team with flaws. Those flaws were exposed by the Rangers. But make no mistake that this was a very, very good team. Winning 101 games is no accident, and even if future Orioles teams go farther in the postseason it’s entirely possible than none of them match this year’s team in terms of regular season performance. They were special.Kyle Bradish emerged as a Cy Young candidate. Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson appear plenty capable of carrying the offense for the forseeable future. The farm system remains overflowing with talent. Things are going well in Birdland! Everything except for maybe the owner being a repugnant jerk, but that is from an Orioles-specific problem. On this episode we dig into the highs and lows of a magical season, and we compare reality to our preseason predictions. If you like what you hear, consider subscribing here on Substack, or on Spotify and your preferred podcast platform. We are also over on YouTube, so consider a free subscription there as well.Connect:Email: [email protected]: https://twitter.com/TheWarehousePodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewarehousepodFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheWarehousePodSubscribe to us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play, Stitcher, TuneIn, YouTube or right here on Substack! Ep 113ALDS Game 3 Recap (Ep. 115)
Welp, that was (not so) fun while it lasted. Another poor pitching performance sunk the Orioles’ chances in Game 3 of the ALDS, culminating with a sweep-clinching 7-1 loss to the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.Of course, it’s not all on Dean Kremer’s shoulders. The offense had a bad night too, and you can also look at manager Brandon Hyde for being less aggressive with his pitching moves than he himself said he planned to be coming into the game.It was a nightmarish evening that concluded a brutal series for these Orioles. Despite such a special summer it leaves all of us with a rather bitter taste in our mouth. It may take some time, but eventually that will dissipate and we will remember how much fun we had with these guys for six months.Eli is on this episode to give you his perspective on the loss as well as reflection on the series as a whole. While the positives were few and far between, there were still some nice things to consider and give you hope for the immediate future of the Baltimore Orioles. Ep 112ALDS Game 2 Recap (Ep. 114)
It’s a tough road from here. The Orioles head to Texas down 2-0 in a best-of-five ALDS in which they have no room for error. Not many teams have faced a similar challenge and succeeded. There were plenty of negatives to take away from the Game 2 loss, most of them on the mound. Grayson Rodriguez struggled, leaning almost entirely on a fastball that wasn’t missing bats. Later, Bryan Baker loaded the bases and then Jacob Webb unloaded them. The Rangers scored a whopping nine runs in the game’s first three innings, and it felt like it was all over.Credit the Baltimore bats for fighting back to the degree that they did. Gunnar Henderson homered and had a nice day at the plate. Aaron Hicks drove in five, including a three-run bomb in the bottom of the ninth inning. Altogether it was a nice showing from the offense. Unfortunately, the pitching just wasn’t up to the task. Now the series moves to Texas, where the O’s room for error has entirely evaporated. They can’t simply play well, they must be perfect and do what they can to win two in a row and force a decisive Game 5 back at Camden Yards.Tyler reacts to all of the drudgery in the Game 2 loss and preps for Game 3 in this special postseason episode. Ep 111ALDS Game 1 Recap (Ep. 113)
The Orioles postseason got off to a rocky start with a 3-2 loss to the Rangers in game one of the ALDS. Kyle Bradish and the pitching staff turned in a solid day, but the offense was largely silent outside of Anthony Santander. It’s tough to complain about the way in which the O’s hurlers held the potent Texas offense to only three runs. Most times out that is going to get the job done. They just didn’t get enough support from the Orioles lineup.Santander scored both of the team’s runs and had two of their five hits. It’s tough to win a baseball game all by yourself, and that was demonstrated here. There wasn’t enough table setting in front of him, while the back half of the lineup was completely impotent.A pair of double plays also killed rally opportunities. Austin Hays grounded into a double play in the fifth, and then Santander did the same in the eighth. The final nail came in the ninth inning, when Gunnar Henderson was thrown out at second trying to steal after opening the frame with a single. On this special mini episode Tyler reviews all of the game one question and previews some keys to game two. This is something we will do after every game in the Orioles postseason run. Hopefully there are many more to come!If you like what you hear, consider subscribing here on Substack, or on Spotify and your preferred podcast platform. Ep 109The Orioles are headed to the playoffs (Ep. 111)
It has been a long road back for the Baltimore Orioles, their players, and their fan base. They have endured some absolutely brutal stretches of baseball, becoming the butt of every easy joke around baseball in the process. To be fair, some of the was deserved! It was the direct result of decisions made by high-ranking people within the organization to tear everything down to the studs and rebuild. That leads to some ugliness. But right about now it feels worth it because the Orioles are headed back to the postseason for the first time since 2016.As of this writing the O’s are now two games up in the AL East, have the tiebreaker over the second-place Rays, and 13 games left on the schedule. While their spot in the playoffs is secured, their seeding is anything but. They can’t cool their jets just yet if they want to win the East and the first-round bye that comes with it.On this week’s episode the guys chat about that, look forward to some playoff roster decisions to be made, and celebrate the accomplishments of the Orioles young roster. If you like what you hear, consider subscribing here on Substack, or on Spotify and your preferred podcast platform. We are also over on YouTube, so consider a free subscription there as well.We are also over on YouTube, so consider a free subscription there as well.Connect:Email: [email protected]: https://twitter.com/TheWarehousePodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewarehousepodFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheWarehousePodSubscribe to us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play, Stitcher, TuneIn, YouTube or right here on Substack!
