Good morning. Virginia. I'm Aaron Jolly.
Step outside this morning and you’ll feel it—that damp, clinging gray blanket. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 10 A.M. For Hampton Roads and southeast Virginia, where visibility could drop to a quarter-mile or less. If you’re heading out early, slow down and flip on those headlights. This isn’t just mist, it’s soup.
In But here’s twist, this fog is temporary. By late morning, the sun starts winning the battle. Western Virginia? You’re looking at 80 degrees today. That’s nearly 35 degrees above normal for early March. Central Virginia climbs to 77. And even Hampton Roads—still shaking off that coastal chill—hits 70. A stubborn marine layer keeps the coast cooler longer.
The catch? A few pop-up showers or even a rumble of thunder could sneak into Western Virginia this afternoon, especially near the Blue Ridge. Keep an eye on the sky around 1 P.M.
Tonight, the warmth sticks around. Lows only dip to 64 in Central Virginia, 62 out west. And 58 along the coast—35 degrees above average. Winds shift to the southwest, gusting up to 15 miles an hour, keeping things mild.
Sunday brings scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially south of I-64. Hampton Roads could see the strongest storms with gusty winds and small hail. Highs drop to the mid-70s west and upper 60s east.
The warmth peaks Monday through Wednesday. We’re talking highs in the low 80s—yes. March 80s. Richmond could hit 84 on Wednesday. But Thursday, reality hits. A stronger cold front drops temps 30 degrees in 24 hours. Highs struggle to hit 60. Winter jackets make a comeback.
Embrace the weirdness today. Take that afternoon walk in your short sleeves, but keep the umbrella handy.
See you tomorrow.
See you this afternoon.
