Show Notes

Good morning. Virginia. I'm Aaron Jolly. That bright sunshine you're seeing right now? Don't let it fool you. A messy weather setup is bearing down on us today. In the next 24 hours. Here's what's happening. High pressure over the Great Lakes is shoving cold air down the Appalachians like a wedge. Meanwhile, moisture rides up and over that cold dome. When those two collide, you get wintry mess. Western Virginia sees it first. Mixed precipitation starts around 7 A.M. By midday, sleet becomes likely even as temperatures hit 38 degrees. Ridge tops could see a glaze of ice. Up to half an inch of snow and sleet possible. Tonight stays messy with rain and snow continuing. Lows dip to 35 degrees. Central Virginia, your turn comes by 11 A.M. A rain and snow mix develops this afternoon. Highs reach only 40 degrees. The worst hits overnight with another quarter to half inch possible. A Winter Weather Advisory kicks in at 4 P.M. For Albemarle. Greene. Orange. and Madison counties. That runs through 7 A.M. Tuesday. Tomorrow you climb to 52 degrees as rain tapers off. Down in Hampton Roads, it's just cold rain after 2 P.M. but those northeast winds howl at 18 miles an hour with gusts to 33 miles an hour. Highs top out at 41 degrees. Rain continues tonight with lows near 38 degrees. Now here's the stunning part. By Wednesday, we soar into the 70s. Thursday and Friday? Near 80 degrees inland. Richmond hasn't hit 70 since before Thanksgiving. That's a 40 degrees swing in 72 hours. If your car survives this wintry mix, it'll be begging for a convertible top by Thursday. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
