Good morning. Virginia. I'm Aaron Jolly.
Spring knocked on the door overnight with temperatures in the low 40s. but a backdoor cold front is about to slam it shut. Hard.
In the next 24 hours. Right now, patchy fog lingers across central and western Virginia. That burns off by mid-morning. Then the front crashes through. and temperatures nosedive.
Western Virginia gets the warmest window. You'll hit 66 degrees around 2 P.M. Before the cold air muscle their way in. Central Virginia tops out at 58 degrees by early afternoon, then slides back fast. Hampton Roads reaches 55 degrees by late morning before the chill takes over. Winds flip northwest and gust to 20 miles an hour along the coast. You'll feel that shift.
Tonight, the cold settles in statewide. Central Virginia drops to 31 degrees. Hampton Roads falls to 36. Western Virginia cools to 33. Partly cloudy skies and a light northeast breeze around 5 to 9 miles an hour.
Monday stays cool and unsettled. Central Virginia reaches 39 degrees with a chance of light snow after 1 P.M. Hampton Roads hits 40 with a slight chance of rain and snow mixing in. Western Virginia sees 37 degrees with possible light snow and rain. Confidence is low on accumulation, but western areas could see minor impacts Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Here's your heads-up for the week. Monday night brings possible wintry mix west of Richmond, but totals look minimal. Tuesday turns milder with rain likely and highs in the low to mid 50s. Then everything flips. Wednesday kicks off a major warm-up. Highs climb into the upper 60s. By Thursday, you're looking at 76 degrees. Friday and Saturday could touch the upper 70s.
We're gaining 2 minutes and 22 seconds of daylight today. Sunrise at 6:42 A.M., sunset at 6:04 P.M. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
