Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. Welcome to the Vermont Weather Podcast for Wednesday, February 25th.
So that 7 degrees wake up call this morning? Yeah. Vermont had other plans for your blanket situation. But now we've swung all the way up to the upper 30s.. And a clipper system is about to crash the party. Snow showers are rolling in this afternoon. And the timing is going to mess with your drive home.
Let's start in the middle of the state. Central Vermont's sitting at 38 degrees right now. That's 9 above normal for late February. Enjoy the mild air while it lasts, because rain and snow showers kick in after 4 P.M. By 9 P.M., snow becomes the main event. You could wake up to about an inch of fresh coating on everything.
Now head south. Southern Vermont tops out around 31 degrees under heavy gray skies. Snow chances climb after 5 P.M. and peak around 7 P.M. If you're anywhere near the Bennington County mountains above 1500 feet, pay attention. A Winter Weather Advisory is up. Three to six inches possible through Thursday morning. That's real accumulation, folks.
Push north into the Kingdom and you're at 33 degrees with just a few flurries possible around midday. Overnight though, snow showers become likely across the region.
Lows tonight drop to 16 degrees statewide. Thursday clears out to partly sunny skies but cooler.. Upper 20s to low 30s.
Now the week ahead tells quite a story. Friday looks gorgeous. Saturday delivers a tease.. Highs flirting with 45 degrees in spots. Savor every second of that warmth. A cold front barrels through Saturday night and slams the door shut. Sunday into Tuesday, highs barely scratch the 20s. Overnight lows plunge below zero. The kind of cold where your car door handle fights back.
One bright spot. We're gaining over 3 minutes of daylight today. Spring equinox is just 3 weeks out. The light is winning, even when the thermometer disagrees.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
