Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. Welcome to the Vermont Weather Podcast for Tuesday, February 24th.
Folks, step outside right now and you're feeling 13 degrees. That's 11 degrees below normal for late February. Arctic air has settled in and it's not leaving quietly.
Down in Southern Vermont, you're topping out at 16 degrees today. West winds gusting to 24 miles an hour push wind chills to minus 3. That's the kind of cold that bites through two layers. Tonight drops to 4 degrees. Then snow sneaks in after 3 AM, peaks around 9 AM Wednesday. And wraps up by 11 AM. You're looking at 1 to 3 inches.. Right in time for the morning commute.
Push north into Central Vermont and you'll see 18 degrees under partly sunny skies. Tonight falls to 5 degrees. Winds flip from northwest to southeast around 2 AM. And snow follows shortly after. Peak snowfall hits around 7 AM Wednesday.
Now the Northeast Kingdom. The coldest corner of the state. Highs only reach 17 degrees today. Tonight? You're plunging to minus 2. Snow holds off until about 5 AM Wednesday, peaking at 7 AM. Lighter totals up here, but the roads will still be slippery.
Wednesday's the real headliner. Southern Vermont could stack up 3 to 5 inches total. Central and the Kingdom see less, but enough to make every commute an adventure. Give yourself extra time.
Here's what the rest of the week looks like. Thursday and Friday ease up. Highs climb into the 30s. Practically tropical compared to today. Saturday brings a genuine surprise.. Low 40s. Snowmelt weather. But enjoy that warmth while the sun's up. A cold front crashes the party Saturday night, dragging us back to the teens and 20s for Sunday and Monday.
One bright spot. We're gaining 3 minutes of daylight today. Sunrise at 6:40, sunset at 5:34.
Charge those phones tonight. Cold batteries and early alarms don't mix well.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
