Show Notes

Good morning. Vermont. I'm DJ Huzz. Step outside and you'll feel it right now, we're sitting at 30 degrees under a thick gray blanket. That high of 40 later today is basically normal for mid-March, clouds will thicken up through the afternoon. You might catch a few flurries in Central Vermont after 1 P.M., but don't expect anything to stick. As the sun sets. Tonight is when the action starts, rain arrives after midnight. Southern Vermont could see a quick window of freezing rain between 9 degrees and 4. A.M., but it will flip to plain rain fast as temps climb into the mid 30s. The Northeast Kingdom gets in on the rain by 5 A.M, while the Champlain Valley bottoms out around a mild 32 degrees. Monday brings the fire hose, moisture streams north from the Atlantic, bringing heavy rain and howling winds. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Champlain Valley from 11 P.M. Tonight until 8 P.M. Monday. Gusts could hit 45 miles an hour, highs surge into the 50s and 60s. Burlington hits 63 degrees. Then the bottom falls out, a cold front crosses Monday evening. Temperatures crash 30 degrees in a few hours, rain changes to snow. Tuesday is raw. Highs top out near 36 in the valleys, but Southern Vermont only reaches the mid 20s. Expect scattered snow showers and a biting wind, tuesday night lows drop into the single digits. Looking ahead. Looking at the week ahead, we dry out Wednesday, while highs rebound to the upper 30s by Thursday. Another system brings a chance of rain and snow Friday into Saturday, it looks unsettled to close out the week. One final note for you folks, mud season is about two weeks away. With the heavy rain Monday, dirt roads will turn to soup in a hurry. Take it slow if you're traveling the backroads, we'll be back with your next forecast morning. See you this afternoon.
