Good evening. Vermont. I'm Aaron Jolly.
That dusting of snow overnight? Already a memory. We're sitting at 47 degrees right now — that's 21 degrees warmer than usual for early March. The sun is out, winds are light. And it feels like spring is knocking on the door.
In the next 24 hours. Southern Vermont climbs to 43 degrees under sunny skies tonight, dipping to 23 degrees. Central Vermont hits 47 today, settling to 29 overnight. Up in the Northeast Kingdom, expect 45 with partly cloudy skies and a low around 26.
Full moon rises tonight, by the way — perfect for a clear, cold evening.
Tomorrow stays quiet with partly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 40s statewide. But here's the thing: a Winter Weather Advisory kicks in Thursday at 7 P.M. and runs through 1 P.M. Friday. Southern Vermont takes the brunt of it — freezing rain and sleet with up to an inch of snow and sleet accumulation. Ice could build up to two-tenths of an inch. Central Vermont sees snow likely Thursday night with minor accumulations. The Northeast Kingdom gets a chance of snow late.
Friday morning's commute looks tricky. Plan extra time.
The weekend brings a complete turnaround. Saturday warms into the upper 40s to low 50s with rain showers. Then we really warm up. Monday hits 50 to 57 degrees. Tuesday pushes toward 60 in spots. That's 20 degrees above normal.
Spring equinox is just two weeks away. Enjoy today's sunshine. Because Thursday night brings our next round of winter.
