Show Notes
Good morning. Maine. I'm DJ Huzz.
Folks, while you were sleeping. Vermont pulled off a magic trick. Temperatures bottomed out at 7 degrees before dawn. Then rocketed up 25 degrees by the time you poured your coffee. High pressure gave us those gorgeous clear skies overnight, but that same clarity let the cold drain away fast. Now southerly winds are flooding in. and the whole state's sitting in the mid 30s. Central Vermont and the Kingdom are both at 35 to 36 degrees. Southern Vermont trails just slightly at 33. All of that runs about 7 degrees above normal for late February.
In the next 24 hours. Now the real show starts tonight. A clipper system races north of us, dragging a southerly low level jet right across the state. Translation? Wind. Serious wind. The Champlain Valley gets hammered with gusts between 30 and 45 miles an hour overnight. You'll hear it. but that wind is carrying warmth like a gift. Saturday becomes our mildest day since mid January. Central Vermont and the Kingdom both touch 43 degrees. Southern Vermont hits 39.
Enjoy that warmth. Because a cold front slams through Saturday evening. Temperatures nosedive. By Sunday morning, light snow blankets the state. One to 3 inches across central Vermont. One to 2 inches down south. A coating to an inch in the Kingdom. Sunday morning commutes get slippery, especially on untreated roads.
Then the real gut punch. Sunday night lows crater to 4 below zero in southern and central areas. Six below in the Kingdom. Monday barely cracks the teens. This might be winter's last deep freeze.
Looking further out, temperatures recover Tuesday into Wednesday. Early risers Tuesday, keep your eyes up around 6 A.M. For a total lunar eclipse through partly cloudy skies. Snow chances creep back in midweek. and another system brings mixed precipitation by late week. Spring equinox is three weeks out, folks.
I'll be tracking that wind all night. Sleep tight if you can.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
