Seven degrees. That's where the thermometer bottomed out overnight. If you're stepping out early, you'll feel every bit of that chill biting at your nose. but here's the good news. We're in for a serious temperature rebound today. You'll actually want to shed a layer this afternoon.
In the next 24 hours. Southern Vermont climbs to 34 degrees under sunny skies. Central Vermont follows closely at 36 degrees with mostly sunny conditions. Northeast Vermont hits 35 degrees, though you might see a stray snow shower dust the ground between noon and 3 P.M. Tonight, clouds increase ahead of our warm front. Lows hold in the mid-20s to around 30 degrees — noticeably milder than the deep freeze we just had.
Saturday brings the warmest day we've seen in over a month. Southern Vermont hits 40 degrees. Central Vermont pushes 42. Northeast Vermont could reach a whopping 46 degrees. Enjoy it. Because a cold front sweeps through Saturday afternoon. and everything changes.
Snow returns Saturday night after 4 A.M. Statewide. Sunday brings accumulating snow — an inch or two possible, especially in southern Vermont. Highs only reach the low 20s.
Then the bottom drops out. Sunday night, temperatures plummet to minus 5 in southern Vermont, minus 4 in central areas. and minus 8 in the northeast. Monday struggles to reach the teens.
We're watching two potential storm systems next week. The first arrives Tuesday night into Wednesday with a chance of snow. The second, late next week, could bring a wintry mix.
Today's high of 36 degrees is 7 degrees above the February normal. Soak up this brief warmth. Because winter reminds us Sunday it's not done yet.
