Episode 1,646 - The Bible on Manhood: Be “Strong and Courageous.” What does that mean in 2024? (AUDIO & VIDEO no subscription needed)

What does it mean when the Bible says to be strong and courageous? We are told that in Christian circles, being strong and courageous is that you go out on conquest, forcing people to believe in God. Some believe that you cannot be strong and courageous because Jesus was meek. But what does it truly mean biblically? The culture doesn’t want you to have it, but we must understand what this means for us in 2024.

What does God’s Word say?

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

1 Peter 5:5

In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,

“God opposes the proud    but shows favor to the humble.”[a]

James 1:12

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

Galatians 1:10

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

What does God’s Word say?

1 Corinthians 14:33

For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.

1 Timothy 6:10

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
