Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Texas Weather Podcast for Wednesday, February 25th.
Sixty two degrees right now.. And that's the coolest you'll feel all day. February forgot what month it's. And honestly, I'm not mad about it.
South Texas is absolutely cooking. Highs soar to 93 degrees. That's 52 degrees above normal. We're flirting with the all time February record set back in 1996, just three degrees shy. Sunny skies, south winds gusting to 28 miles an hour. But there's a catch. A Red Flag Warning is up across Deep South Texas. Humidity drops to 25 percent. Any spark out there could turn ugly fast.
Slide north into Central Texas and you're still sweating. High near 88 degrees under full sun. Southwest gusts hit 25 miles an hour this afternoon. That wind feels like someone left the oven door open.
Up in North Texas, 83 degrees with mostly sunny skies and similar gusts. Not quite as extreme, but your AC is earning its paycheck today.
Now the Gulf Coast. High near 80 degrees with south winds gusting to 30 miles an hour. A Wind Advisory covers Hardin and Tyler counties through 6 P.M. tonight. Secure anything loose in the yard.
Tonight stays mild. Lows range from 56 degrees up north to 67 along the coast. Leave the heavy blankets in the closet.
Thursday cranks the dial even higher. South Texas could touch 97 degrees. Central Texas hits 90. A weak front slides through Thursday night, but don't get excited. It barely takes the edge off. The rest of the week? Eighties statewide through the weekend. By Tuesday, we might finally see a slight chance of rain. Might.
Sunrise at 7:02 A.M. Sunset at 6:28 P.M. We're gaining almost two minutes of daylight every day now. Spring is coming in hot. Literally.
Keep those water bottles full today. Your body doesn't expect this kind of heat in February.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
