Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Texas Weather Podcast. It's Wednesday, February 25th.
Folks, forget everything you know about February. Today feels like May crashed the party.. And brought friends.
Del Rio hits 95 degrees by 4 P.M. Laredo climbs to 93. That's 52 degrees from the all-time February record set back in 1996. Alice pushes 92. These are numbers that belong on a pool float, not a winter calendar.
Slide north into Central Texas and it's not much cooler. Austin and San Antonio both push near 88 degrees by 4 P.M. That's 52 degrees above normal. Let that sink in. Winds gust to 15 miles an hour around 9 A.M., then settle down. Enjoy the breeze while it lasts.
Up in North Texas, Dallas reaches 83 degrees by 4 P.M. Waco hits 85. Steady south winds around 8 miles an hour keep things comfortable. Cooler than the south? Sure. But you're still sweating through your shirt.
Now the Gulf Coast. You're looking at 80 degrees by 2 P.M. with south winds gusting to 30 miles an hour. A Wind Advisory runs through 6 P.M. for coastal areas. If you're on the water, respect that wind.
Tonight barely cools off. Lows settle into the upper 50s to low 60s statewide. Leave the windows cracked.
One thing you'll want to watch. Fire danger is elevated today and Thursday, especially west of I-52 degrees. Low humidity plus gusty winds means any spark spreads fast. Skip the burn piles this week.
Looking ahead, Thursday gets even hotter. Mid to upper 90s across South Texas before a weak front sneaks in Thursday night. Friday brings a slight cooldown into the low 80s. Then dry conditions and above normal warmth carry us straight through the weekend.
Sunscreen in February. I checked twice. And yes, it's real.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
