Show Notes

Good morning. Texas. I'm Aaron Jolly. So what's going on? A ridge of high pressure is parked right over us. and strong southerly winds are funneling Gulf moisture straight up the state. There's a cold front stalled near the Red River, but it's barely putting up a fight. The result? We're running 57 degrees above normal this morning. Step outside right now and you'll feel 67 degrees under overcast skies. In March. I'll take it. In the next 24 hours. North Texas is the one spot where that front matters. Highs top out around 78 degrees with partly sunny skies. Still warm, just not absurd. Tonight drops to a mild 62 degrees up there. Now drive south and watch the thermometer climb. Central Texas hits 82 degrees this afternoon. South Texas? A sizzling 89 degrees with heat index values pushing close to 87. That's sunscreen territory, folks. Along the Gulf Coast, patchy fog hangs around until about 9 A.M. Once it burns off, skies clear for a high of 83 degrees. Overnight lows stay remarkably mild statewide. Most areas hold in the low to mid 60s. Your AC might kick on before your heater does. Tomorrow gets even warmer. South Texas could touch 92 degrees. That's nearly twenty above normal for early March. Looking ahead, the heat dome holds through Friday. Then a cold front creeps in Wednesday and stalls, opening the door for scattered showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances build through the weekend, with some models hinting at locally heavy rainfall. Quick history lesson. On this exact day in 2012, fifteen tornadoes ripped across North Texas. Severe weather season is just 13 days away. Something to keep in the back of your mind. In Sunrise hit at 6, 57 this morning. Sunset at 6:31. We're gaining almost two minutes of daylight every day now. I'll be watching that midweek front closely. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
