Folks, if you stepped outside today and thought your calendar was lying to you, you're not crazy. Texas is currently stealing a page straight out of mid-April. We're sitting at a spectacular 80 degrees under full sun, running a whopping 58 degrees above normal.
In the next 24 hours. Here's what's happening. A big ridge of high pressure is building in from the west, forcing air to sink and warming us up nicely. Meanwhile, those southerly winds are acting like a conveyor belt, pumping warm Gulf moisture right into our backyards.
Down in South Texas, you're feeling the heat the most. Highs near Laredo and Corpus Christi are topping out at 88 degrees, pushing right up against record territory. Central Texas isn't far behind. Austin and San Antonio are looking at 87 degrees with plenty of that bright sunshine.
Push north and things ease just a touch. North Texas peaks at a comfortable 84 degrees this afternoon. Along the Gulf Coast, you're enjoying the lower 80s with a refreshing southeast breeze off the water.
You'll want to watch out later tonight. Patchy fog develops after 2 A.M. As those winds finally calm down. Lows will dip into the lower 60s along the coast and hover around 60 inland. If you're driving early Sunday morning, give yourself some extra time.
Sunday brings more of the same beautiful weather. Highs statewide stay in the 80s with southeast winds gusting up to 25 miles an hour by the afternoon.
Looking ahead, this warm pattern holds through Tuesday. Then comes the change. A storm system rolls in from the west Wednesday. Rain chances jump to a coin flip Wednesday and Thursday. and some of those storms could be strong.
In Enjoy this weekend while you can, folks. Sunrise was at 6, 59 this morning. Sunset comes at 6:30 this evening.
