Good evening. Texas. I'm Aaron Jolly.
Folks. Texas decided February is over early. A massive high pressure ridge has parked itself right over us like a guest who won't leave. and honestly, I'm not mad about it. That ridge is blocking every scrap of cold air and pulling warm Gulf moisture straight up through the state. The result? Temperatures running 58 degrees above normal today.
In the next 24 hours. South Texas and Central Texas both flirted with the upper 80s this afternoon. 88 and 87 degrees respectively. North Texas hit 84. Down along the Gulf Coast, the sea breeze kept things slightly more reasonable at 81. Still. Late February. Let that sink in.
Now tonight, things get interesting. All that Gulf moisture pooling overhead means fog rolls in after 2 A.M. Along the coast and creeps inland. Lows settle into the low 60s statewide. 61 on the coast, 64 in South Texas, 60 through Central and North Texas. Leave the windows cracked. You won't need the heater.
Sunday morning, that fog burns off by 9 A.M. and we're right back to summer preview mode. South Texas hits 88 again. Central Texas reaches 84. North Texas tops at 81. Gulf Coast sits near 79. Winds pick up through the afternoon with gusts to 25 miles an hour, so your patio umbrella might get ambitious.
Looking ahead, this warmth holds through Tuesday. Then the ridge finally cracks. A trough slides in Wednesday. and with it comes our first real rain. Showers and thunderstorms become likely Wednesday night into Thursday across North and Central Texas. South Texas and the coast see lower chances but could still catch some action. Highs stay in the low 80s through it all.
Two weeks until tornado season typically ramps up. Enjoy the quiet while it lasts.
