The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers' Initial 53-Man Roster, Decisions Made, Expected Moves, MVS Interest & More
August 27, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 16 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the initial 53-man roster that the Pittsburgh Steelers established on Tuesday. We go over each position group as we review the initial 53-man roster for 2025 and we start at the quarterback position. From there, we roll through the rest of the position groups when it comes to players kept and not kept. The Steelers are sure to massage their 53-man roster in the coming days so Alex and I discuss what additional moves might be made. We discuss the likelihood of CB James Pierre and S Chuck Clark both being re-signed and if QB Will Howard and CB Donte Kent will both be moved to the Reserve/Injured list in the coming days. We talk about some of the minutiae related to several decisions the Steelers made on Tuesday when it comes to the team setting their initial 53-man roster. The Steelers waived CB Beanie Bishop Jr. on Tuesday, and I present a tin foil hat theory related to that move and decision. Will Bishop ultimately land on the team's initial practice squad? What about ILB Mark Robinson, who like Bishop, was waived on Tuesday. As there any chance whatsoever that the Steelers wind up trading QB Skylar Thompson in the next week? Alex and I address that question and try to identify a few teams that might be looking for a backup quarterback still. The Steelers reportedly seem to have some level of interest in free agent WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling after he was cut by the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday. Alex and I discuss his potential fit with the Steelers and what the tape and stats say about him at this stage of his NFL career. Will the Steelers potentially trade for disgruntled Las Vegas Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers? Alex and I address that question briefly during this show. What will the initial practice squad look like for Steelers? Late in this show, Alex and I go over several players that we both feel are near locks to land on the 17-man unit. This 91-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Vs. Panthers Preseason Game, Harmon Injury, Roster Decisions & More
August 22, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 14 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers on the heels of their Thursday night preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. The big topic coming out of the 2025 preseason finale is the knee injury sustained by rookie DL Derrick Harmon. Alex and I discuss how it sounds like the Steelers dodged a huge bullet with the Harmon injury based on the way he looked when he was carted off the field in the first half. We talk about the outlook for Harmon the next few weeks and also go over the other injured players on the Steelers as the team now gets ready for the start of the 2025 regular season in 16 days from today. Steelers CB Beanie Bishop Jr. did not play Thursday night against the Panthers, so we delve into the possible reasons for that surprise happening. We also go over the several other players that did not participate in the team's preseason finale. While the Steelers Thursday night game was sloppy and not overly entertaining, Alex and I still go over what transpired in all three phases. We start on the offensive side of the football and go through all of the position groups and discuss the performances of several different players. We then do the same for the defensive side of the football as well as special teams. Will the Steelers keep QB Skylar Thompson on their 53-man roster after his strong preseason showing? Will they trade him? Is sending rookie QB Will Howard to the Reserve/Injured list as a designated-to-return player the right move for the team to make? We discuss those several questions and go over a few other decisions the team has when it comes to potential trade candidates and use of the Reserve/Injured list. Is second-year DL Logan Lee a lock to make the 53-man roster this year like several believe? Alex and I discuss his roster hopes in this show and also talk about the preseason showing that rookie OLB Jack Sawyer had and even it was disappointing overall. Who won the punter battle this summer? Alex and I aren’t really sure which way that will go but we do have some thoughts on the matter. The Steelers have a few interesting roster decisions to make now that their preseason finale against the Panthers has taken place. We go over the players who seem to be on the roster bubble right now with the start of the regular season now less than three weeks away. This 89-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap, and we make sure to answer a few questions from listeners at the end of this show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Vs. Panthers Preview, Transactions, Gabe Davis Visit, 53-Man Roster Predictions & More
August 20, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 13 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the recent transactions made by the Pittsburgh Steelers that included the team parting ways with rookie undrafted free agent WR Roc Taylor. We go over why Taylor might have been jettisoned a few days ago. The Steelers had free agent WR Gabe Davis in for a second visit on Tuesday, so Alex and I discuss him reportedly leaving Pittsburgh unsigned once again. We address how Davis would fit with the Steelers if he is ultimately signed and what a contract for him would look like. Ahead of the team's Thursday night preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers, Alex and I go over the health of the Steelers 91-man roster. We discuss a few players we are hoping to learn more about when it comes to their injuries by the time the weekend is over. Steelers DT Cameron Heyward was back in team drills on Tuesday, so Alex and I discuss that big news as the team prepares for their final preseason game. We also talk about how Heyward, OLB T.J. Watt, QB Aaron Rodgers, and WR DK Metcalf are all scheduled to sit out Thursday night against the Panthers. Will the Steelers play CB Jalen Ramsey, CB Darius Slay, CB Joey Porter Jr., and S DeShon Elliott against the Panthers? Steelers HC Mike Tomlin sure made it sound like they all would during his Tuesday press conference. Alex and I discuss whether Tomlin will change his mind when it comes to those four players by the time kickoff rolls around. Alex and I also recap the few other minor things that Tomlin said on Tuesday. With the final preseason game now on tap, Alex and I look at a few players worth watching Thursday night when it comes to potential spots on the 53-man roster not deemed 100 percent secure. As part of this discussion, Alex and I go down a rabbit hole when it comes to the punter battle the Steelers need to conclude soon. Later in this show, Alex and I roll through our updated 53-man roster predictions with two preseason games now in the books. We discuss how there only seems to be a few questions regarding the initial roster right now and how players needing to go to Reserve/Injured as designated-to-return could shape a few final decisions. We also discuss how WR Scotty Miller might be used as a final roster manipulation piece should the need arise and why. This 90-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap, and we make sure to answer a few questions from listeners at the end of this show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. August 18, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 12 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers bringing in four long snappers for tryouts on Sunday on the heels of LS Christian Kuntz getting injured on Saturday night early in the team's second preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccerers. Later in this show, the news breaks that Kuntz might have a broken sternum so we discuss that news and what it might mean for him come the start of the 2025 regular season. We also go over a few things from DL Logan Lee and the long snapping that he did Saturday night after Kuntz left the game injured. Adam Schefter of ESPN passed along the news of the Steelers signing free agent CB Kam Alexander during this show, so Alex and I make sure to pass along that tidbit on this Monday as well. With the all-22 tape from the Saturday preseason game against the Buccaneers now fully digested, Alex and I run through what all we learned from that. We start on the offensive side of the football and go through all of the position groups to discuss the good, bad, and sometimes ugly play of several different players. Can OL Andrus Peat make the roster following a nice showing at left guard Saturday night? Alex and I then do the same sort of tape review when it comes to the defensive side of the football. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers Vs. Jaguars All-22, Heyward Contract Comments, TE Roles, Ramsey Interview & More
August 13, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 9 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the overall health of the Pittsburgh Steelers now that their 2025 training camp practices at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA are over with. We discuss Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers getting dinged during Tuesdays practice and more. Steelers DT Cameron Heyward finally addressed the media to talk about his contract situation a few days ago so Alex and I completely parse all that he had to say on that topic. We go over what it sounds like Cameron Heyward is waiting in terms of his contract being adjusted, what he might and might not get as an end result and the several types of pushbacks he has received concerning the topic. Would Cameron Heyward seriously consider missing games in 2025 due to his contract situation? We discuss that question and also go over several other questions related to his contract wants and how that has been handled by his side this offseason. Keeping with the Heyward theme, Alex and I discuss Steelers TE Connor Heyward in this show. We talk about how safe his spot on the 53-man roster seems to be right now and if the Steelers should look outside the organization for a possibly upgrade to be their fourth tight end. Speaking of the tight end position, Alex and I discuss an old breakdown that former New England Patriots HC Bill Belichick had when it comes to what he looked for in his tight ends and the roles for each on the depth chart. That makes for a fun conversation when applying to the Steelers current group of tight ends. We also go over Belichick’s old thoughts on offense and other offensive position groups. With the all-22 tape from the Steelers first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars now fully digested by both of us, Alex and I recap the good, bad, ugly, and other notable things that we observed. We address and review the individual play of several Steelers players from Saturday night as part of our lengthy postgame breakdown of the tape. The Pivot podcast recently released training camp interviews with Steelers HC Mike Tomlin and new CB Jalen Ramsey that certainly got our full attention. We discuss both interviews and especially Ramsey's in depth. I explain why the Ramsey interview really has me even more fired up when it comes to the impact he can make on defense for the 2025 season and beyond. This 140-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap, and we make sure to answer several email questions we received from listeners of the show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. August 10, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 8 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Sunday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers on the heels of their Saturday night preseason game win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. After some initial overarching thoughts on the first preseason game, Alex and I roll through the additional players that did not play against the Jaguars due to injuries. We also go over the one injury the Steelers did sustain during the Saturday night preseason game that HC Mike Tomlin highlighted during his short postgame press conference. Alex and I then get into breaking down the Saturday night preseason game based only on the television copy, and we start on the offensive side of the football. We discuss the play of quarterbacks Mason Rudolph and Skyler Thompson on Saturday night and how both played well above the line. We discuss those two quarterbacks pushing the football down the field quite frequently in Jacksonville and also discuss the few touchdown passes from the game. Could Thompson potentially make the Steelers 53-man roster as the third string quarterback over rookie Will Howard? Might the Steelers consider placing Howard on the Reserve/Injured list to accommodate Thompson? How about the Steelers potentially trading Thompson before the start of the 2025 regular season? We discuss all of those questions early in this show. Moving forward in this preseason game recap, Alex and I go through all of the position groups on both sides of the football. We talk snap totals and the play of several individual players on both offense and defense against the Jaguars. We make sure to hit on the offensive line combinations used Saturday night and how the pass blocking was much better than the run blocking in Jacksonville. Alex and I make sure to note the play of all of the rookie draft picks that played Saturday night such as DT Derrick Harmon, RB Kaleb Johnson, OLB Jack Sawyer, DT Yahya Black, and ILB Carson Bruener. We make sure to hit on special teams play from Saturday night and that includes the Jaguars kicker nailing a 70-yard field goal before the end of the first half. Our top takeaways from the first preseason game of 2025 are also mixed in throughout this podcast episode. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers’ Preseason Game Preview, Heyward, Boswell Contract Situations, Ireland Travel Plans & More
August 8, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 7 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the recent transactions made by the Pittsburgh Steelers that include a new quarterback and offensive lineman being signed on Thursday. We go over the corresponding moves to those new signings and also discuss how a few more transactions might be on the way ahead of Saturday night. On Thursday, Steelers DT Cameron Heyward and K Chris Boswell both dominated the team's headlines due to their contract situations ahead of the 2025 regular season getting underway. Alex and I spend a lot of time in this show discussing why this contract news with both Heyward and Boswell has surfaced at this point of the offseason and what the options are for potentially appeasing both players. We talk about what could and likely will happen with both Heyward and Boswell prior to the regular season starting and how both players could still potentially be back in the same place a year from now when it comes to each’s 2026 earnings. We make sure to discuss the pushbacks that a lot of fans seem to have when it comes to both players and specifically when it comes to Heyward. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin met with the media on Thursday to discuss the upcoming preseason game on Saturday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Alex and I go over the extensive list of players that Tomlin said won't play Saturday night and why. We also go over a few things that Tomlin had to say on Thursday about a few younger Steelers players such RB Kaleb Johnson, WR Roman Wilson, and ILB Payton Wilson. Alex and I then preview the Saturday night road preseason game against the Jaguars when it comes to all three phases. We discuss the likely staring units, playing time and even attempt to take a stab at the quarterback rotation used and playing time. We make sure to go over some of the key things we'll both be looking for against the Jaguars. Later in this show, Alex and I discuss what Steelers president Art Rooney II recently said about the team's travel plans for the Week 4 road game in Dublin, Ireland against the Minnesota Vikings. This 103-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap, and we make sure to answer a few listener questions at the very end. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. We also go over other roster-related news that includes one recent transaction that the Steelers made. The Terrible Podcast — Talking Steelers’ Depth Needs, Washington Tackle Comments, Robinson At FB, Injuries & More
August 4, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 5 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the health of the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of a day off at training camp. We discuss Steelers OLB Alex Highsmith and his groin injury history and CB Cory Trice Jr. being sidelined again by yet another injury. Alex and I look at the Steelers’ biggest depth needs at this point of the summer and that includes a deeper dive into the tackle position. We also discuss the potential need for another wide receiver and if the team will even consider adding another veteran at some point prior to the 2025 regular season getting underway. Steelers TE Darnell Washington was asked recently if he would consider moving to tackle at some point down the road so Alex and I discuss what he had to say about that, and probability of such a position move ever happening. The Steelers used ILB Mark Robinson at fullback during Sunday's training camp practice, so Alex and I discuss that little tidbit. How many times will we see the Steelers use four tight ends in 2025? Alex and I address that question during this show. We also discuss several different players on the Steelers roster with training camp now over halfway completed. Should there be a lot of concern about the Steelers offense the way the unit has looked so far during training camp? We address that question later in this show and also how much, if any, QB Aaron Rodgers will play in the team's first preseason game this coming Saturday night. We wind this show down by discussing several players we look forward to watching in the first preseason game. This 83-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap, and we make sure to answer a few listener questions at the very end. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices.
