TFP 175: How to Develop a Consistent Second Serve

On Episode 175 of The Tennis Files Podcast, you’ll learn how to develop a consistent and reliable second serve.I used to struggle with my second serve. I’d get nervous and double fault on important points. I remember not even knowing the proper technique for a topspin or kick serve, so I relied heavily on my slice serve to get the point started. Double faulting negatively affected my confidence and the rest of my game followed suit. It wasn’t until I learned and implemented most of the information that I share in this podcast episode that I started to develop more confidence in my second serve. Improving your second serve is one of the best investments you can make in your game. As the old saying goes: “You’re only as good as your second serve.” If you want to start having more confidence in your service games, this is the episode for you.On the show, you’ll learn the key fundamentals of the topspin serve, effective drills to help develop height and spin on your second serve, strategic and mental advice to avoid nerves and double faulting, and much more!I really hope you enjoy this episode! TFP 165: 6 Ways to Attack the Net

On Episode 165 of The Tennis Files Podcast, I reveal 6 ways to attack the net that will help you play more aggressively and put pressure on your opponents.I always have been a baseliner since I first started playing. When I got to college, my coach Keith Puryear (who was my very first interview on the podcast, Episode #2!), showed me the fundamentals and the importance of attacking the net when the opportunity presents itself. I vividly remember a match against our conference rivals where I followed the directions of my head coach Keith and Assistant Coach Matt Bilger (who I had on the podcast a couple years back, Episode #43). They told me to concentrate on recognizing short balls and approaching the net on them instead of staying back at the baseline to create pressure on my opponent. If your opponents know you aren’t going to attack the net when they are in trouble, they are going to be comfortable and can hit a lower quality ball back in the court and still be in decent shape. Compare that with being out of position and knowing that your opponent is going to be rushing the net, taking time away from you and volleying your shot, giving you half as much time to recover. Attacking the net creates pressure, errors, and is a game changer. With that in mind, on today’s episode, you’re going to learn 6 simple and effective ways to attack the net and win more tennis matches.I hope you enjoy this episode! TFP 160: 7 Do's and Don't for Doubles Players

On Episode 160 of The Tennis Files Podcast, I discuss 7 key do’s and don’ts for doubles players.I played mostly singles as a junior player. So I really had no idea about what the fundamentals of doubles were, how to move, and even how to volley very well because I spent just about every minute on the court hugging the baseline unless I got a short ball. After law school, I started playing a lot of USTA league tennis, which was a ton of doubles. I gradually picked up a few more doubles strategies, and then my doubles game really picked up when I started Tennis Files around 2015, because I got to interview a ton of expert coaches on the subject. I then developed this deep hunger to really learn the top strategies from the best coaches in the world. So for this episode, I put together a list of doubles mistakes I’ve made and learned to correct through experience, and winning strategies, to share with you to help you improve your doubles game.I hope you enjoy this episode! TFP 159: 7 Do’s and Don’ts in Singles Matches (4.5 Level)

On Episode 159 of The Tennis Files Podcast, you’re going to learn 7 key do’s and don’ts in your singles matches.Strategy, unlike technique, is something that you can implement immediately that will make a big impact in your matches. Lately I’ve been watching points of amateur players on Youtube, and I found myself recognizing several key strategic mistakes, as well as things the players did quite well. And on this episode, you’ll learn exactly what to do and not to do on the singles court. There will also be a video on Youtube of me analyzing and critiquing 5 points from a 4.5 singles match by the time this episode is published.
