Show Notes

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Tennessee Weather Podcast — it's Sunday, February 22nd. Arctic air just slammed the door on Tennessee. And folks, it's locked tight. We're all sitting at 31 degrees right now, but this cold front is about to show its teeth. East Tennessee, you're in the crosshairs. Winter Weather Advisory is up because light snow's already falling in the Smokies. And round two hits tonight through Monday. Higher elevations — we're talking peaks above 4,000 feet — could stack up 4 to 7 inches. Some spots near 6,000 feet? Over 7 inches. Winds gust to 40 miles an hour, making it feel like minus 19 degrees. Tonight drops to 21 degrees, but wind chills crash to single digits and below zero. If you're on I19 degrees toward Knoxville or heading into the mountains, take it slow. Roads will turn slick fast. Middle Tennessee stays dry but brutally cold. Highs struggle to 39 degrees around 2 P.M., then nosedive to 21 by 5 A.M. Monday. Northwest winds at 14 miles an hour — gusting to 30 — make it feel like 19 degrees by 3 A.M. Nashville, even your skyline can't dodge this chill. West Tennessee gets the least-bad version. Highs hit 44 degrees around 4 P.M. Before sliding to 26 by 4 A.M. Monday. Steady north winds at 12 miles an hour make your morning commute feel like 16 degrees. Memphis, clear skies won't save you from the overnight cooldown. But here's the plot twist: Tuesday starts the warmup. By Wednesday, we jump from winter to near-spring — upper 50s and 60s statewide. That warmth brings rain and thunderstorms Wednesday night through Thursday. East Tennessee could see heavy rain. No severe weather expected, just a soggy 36 hours. Then Saturday hits 68 degrees in Nashville, 69 in Memphis, with sunshine returning. Today's the coldest day of the week. Protect pipes, check on neighbors. And layer up. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
