Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the Tennessee Weather Podcast. It's Saturday, February 17th.
Folks, Tennessee can't decide what month it's today. East Tennessee woke up thinking it's April. Middle and West Tennessee? Still firmly planted in February. Here's the deal.
If you're anywhere near Knoxville or the Smokies, step outside and enjoy it. Highs hit 60 degrees today. That's nearly 20 degrees above normal for mid-February. Light northeast winds barely whisper. There's a slim chance of a stray shower, but most of you stay dry. Tonight drops to a gentle 42 degrees. And Sunday? Even warmer. You're looking at 62 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Perfect weather for a hike if you ask me.
Now drive west toward Nashville or Memphis, and it's a completely different story. Both regions top out around 44 degrees. That's 10 degrees below normal. A northeast breeze at 5 miles an hour adds a little bite. Middle Tennessee might catch a sprinkle, but West Tennessee stays dry. Tonight, lows sink to 30 degrees out west, 32 degrees around Nashville. Sunday crawls up to 48 degrees in both spots. Not brutal, but you'll want a jacket.
Here's your heads up for the week ahead. East Tennessee holds onto that warmth through Monday. Then a cold front barrels in Tuesday and levels the playing field. By Wednesday, the whole state settles back into the 40s. Rain chances creep in late week, so enjoy the dry days while they last.
One bright spot for everyone. Sunrise lands at 6:32 A.M., sunset at 5:20 P.M. We're gaining nearly 3 minutes of daylight every day. Spring is sneaking closer.
Alright. If this forecast helped you plan your Saturday, share it with a neighbor who could use a heads up.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Stay safe out there!
