Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Tennessee Weather Podcast — it's Tuesday, February 24th.
Step outside right now and that 20 degrees will bite right through your jacket. But here's the kicker.. This is the last freezing morning you'll see for at least a week. Winter's packing its bags.
Middle Tennessee wakes up at 21 degrees, but watch what happens. By 3 P.M., you're hitting 51 degrees. That's a 30-degree swing in one day. Winds kick in from the south at 11 miles an hour, making it feel like 21 degrees around 7 A.M. Tonight, clouds roll in and lows only drop to 43 degrees. Almost balmy.
West Tennessee follows the same playbook. You start at 27 degrees at 5 A.M., then climb to 55 degrees by 5 P.M. Winds gust to 30 miles an hour, so tie down anything that might fly away. Tonight stays mild at 46 degrees.
East Tennessee is the holdout today. Highs only reach 46 degrees, with winds gusting to 15 miles an hour by 10 P.M. It'll feel like 27 degrees around 10 A.M. Tonight, clouds thicken and lows settle at 39 degrees.
Now for what's ahead. Rain moves in Wednesday night into Thursday as a cold front pushes through. West Tennessee could see half an inch, while East Tennessee might get closer to an inch. Nothing severe, just steady rain. Friday brings the sun back. And temperatures keep climbing. Saturday could hit 70 degrees in Middle and West Tennessee. Seventy. In February.
So soak up that cold this morning, because it's the last taste you'll get for a while.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
