I should have given them what they wanted. Instead they broke my life apart, stripping away the only good I had left in it. My team, Tristan, now Adrian? And no matter how hard I look, there’s little hope to finding my familiar. Now that war is on the horizon, hope in general is almost impossible to grasp.
And the darkness only grows.
The Council has let all my preparations for a moment just like this one fall to the wayside, in their overconfidence or - more likely - their arrogance. Our forces are limited and there are rumors of the humans having superior weapons that could cause real damage to us.
And worst of all, to me anyway, the things I’m learning about Tristan tell me I never really knew the man I fell in love with.
I’ve never felt more alone and I know the cost will be heavy if I give them what they’re after. But maybe those monsters will take this burden from me and leave like they promised. Maybe it won’t be so bad. Maybe...it’s for the best.
