Good news from the Middle East? Yes! And the Kurds are making it happen. In this week’s podcast, Stephen describes the good news—the liberation of Mosul!—and some of the challenges facing the Kurds. Then, he prepares us for what might be some of the biggest news yet—the move toward an independent Kurdistan. All in this exciting update on the Kurds. Ep 208They Said They Miss Their War
Some men and women come home from war and find themselves missing an important part of their lives: mission. The purpose, belonging and accountability that is a natural part of military life is often absent from civilian life, but that does not have to be the case. In this episode, Stephen recounts a discussion with former soldiers and urges all of us to build lives of passion and purpose. Ep 207Getting Racially Righteous
After the American Civil Rights movement in the 1960s, our country's problems with racism remained subtle but persistent. But since the advent of the internet and our first African-American president, racial tension has stolen the stage and bigotry has reared its ugly head once more. In this important episode, Stephen reminds us of the righteous, redemptive side of our nation and challenges us to make a difference on a personal level. Ep 206The Leaders We Deserve
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are the two least-liked presidential candidates in American memory. So how did we get to this point and what does it mean for America? Ep 205Stephen’s New Book for Men
Stephen’s concern for the state of men today led to him write Mansfield’s Book of Manly Men, a book that has inspired men’s gatherings around the world. Now, Stephen has written a companion for that book. It’s called Building Your Band of Brothers. He describes this little book, and its intended impact, in this podcast. After you’ve heard it you can order Building Your Band of Brothers at a discount here: http://squ.re/2aWDVBW Learn about Mansfield's Book of Manly Men: www.MansfieldsBookOfManlyMen.com

Ep 204Let The Numbers Speak
The petty quarrels of the infamous 2016 presidential election continue to invade the airwaves, but what about the bigger picture? Clearly, our culture is at an alarming crossroads. Sometimes, the best way to interpret the difficulties of the present moment is through the numbers. [custom_font font_family='Open Sans' font_size='11' line_height='26' font_style='none' text_align='left' font_weight='300' color='' background_color='' text_decoration='none' text_shadow='no' padding='0px' margin='0px']Image courtesy of NASA[/custom_font]

Ep 203In Defense of Muslim Patriots
When Khizr Khan and his wife appeared at a recent political convention and spoke of their son, U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan, who was killed in Iraq, it was a reminder to us all. While there are extremist and violent Muslims in the world, thousands of patriotic Muslims serve in America’s armed forces and government. Tens of thousands more live democracy-loving lives in this nation. Drawing from his own experience in the Middle East, Stephen reinforces the Khans' vital message to our country. Ep 202Watching The Conventions
With echoes of 1968 ringing clearly, there is sure to be a lot to see in this election season’s National Conventions. Stephen offers this unique political and media trail map to guide you through the chaos and show you what to watch out for along the way. [custom_font font_family='Open Sans' font_size='11' line_height='26' font_style='none' text_align='left' font_weight='300' color='' background_color='' text_decoration='none' text_shadow='no' padding='0px' margin='0px']CC image courtesy of Krassotkin and Gage Skidmore on Wikimedia[/custom_font]

Ep 201Jesus, Race and Cops
Our nation is in upheaval over issues of race and police misconduct—and it should be. We need to heal. We need to restore. In this podcast, Stephen speaks in typically blunt, hard-hitting terms about racism and the recent events torturing our nation. He also reports the surprising things he learned from some friends who are black law enforcement officials in DC. [custom_font font_family='Open Sans' font_size='11' line_height='26' font_style='none' text_align='left' font_weight='300' color='' background_color='' text_decoration='none' text_shadow='no' padding='0px' margin='0px']CC image courtesy of Vox Efx on Flickr[/custom_font]

Ep 200Your Grandma Strategy
We live in a strange time. Left and right, coast to coast, self-radicalized gunmen are terrorizing quiet neighborhoods. Hackers are compromising bank records and government databases. Natural disasters are increasing at a dramatic rate. In this episode, Stephen offers a quick manual for staying strong amidst the unexpected, and how to pass along these lessons to those near and dear to you. Ep 19910 Truths About Orlando
Did you know that more Americans have died from guns since 1968 than have died in all wars combined? Did you know that in the approximately 72 hours between the Orlando shooting and the recording of this episode, there were 93 additional gun-related deaths in America, including four children? In the wake of America's most deadly mass-shooting, Stephen offers 10 truths for us to remember through this common tragedy. Note: Since this was recorded on Tuesday, June 15, some evidence has come to light that may contradict evidence available at the time of recording. Ep 198Book Review: “Tribe” by Sebastian Junger
Sebastian Junger not only wrote The Perfect Storm which inspired the movie starring George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg, but he has written arguably the best book and produced the best documentary about men in war. He has just released Tribe, which begins as a look at soldiers returning from war and becomes a wise, insightful examination of how modern society works against community, belonging and even the idea of home. Stephen believes that Junger’s new book fits perfectly with what he has been saying to men for many years and with his own upcoming book, Building Your Band of Brothers. Tribe is an essential summer read and Stephen's review in this podcast will make you eager to get it and devour it. Ep 196Where Greatness Lies
Greatness is often associated today with wealth, talent and fame. Yet the great lives of history reveal a different story. True greatness comes from defending a defenseless people, giving voice to those who have no voice, or helping to strengthen the weak. In this sense, greatness comes not from fame, talent nor wealth, but rather from giving oneself to a people or cause without hope of personal gain. In this podcast, Stephen explores this theme and urges us all to ponder our opportunities to invest in lives other than our own. True greatness, he believes, is in reach for all of us. Ep 194It’s Clinton vs. Trump: What Now?
In one of our nation's most notable—and most brutal—primary elections, the verdict seems to be out: Donald Trump on the right vs. Hillary Clinton on the left. So what does that mean for you? In this informative episode, Stephen lays out what is (probably) to come for the remaining months in terms of the faiths, platforms and political strategies of two very disliked candidates. Ep 193A Part of Publishing You Might Not Know
Stephen is often asked how a person who can’t write or who doesn’t have time to write can get their story on the page. Well, there are firms that specialize in helping people get their story told, their information recounted engagingly, even their family histories captured for generations yet unborn. One of these firms is headed by Beverly Mansfield. In this podcast, Stephen interviews Beverly about this sometimes overlooked part of the publishing industry, a part increasing numbers of people today are thrilled to discover. Ep 192What I Learned as a TED Speaker: Part 2
In a continuation of his last podcast, Stephen explores the biggest lessons he learned from speaking at a TED event. As he states it, "We are living in a knowledge revolution and the future belongs to those skilled in self-education.” Stephen urges us to understand the revolution we are living through and to use it to both succeed in our professions and to enjoy life more fully. [button size='large' style='' text='SUBSCRIBE ON ITUNES' icon='' icon_color='' link='https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/stephen-mansfield-podcast/id433416409?mt=2?mt=2' target='_blank' color='' hover_color='' border_color='' hover_border_color='' background_color='' hover_background_color='' font_style='normal' font_weight='' text_align='center' margin=‘'] [custom_font font_family='Open Sans' font_size='11' line_height='26' font_style='none' text_align='left' font_weight='300' color='' background_color='' text_decoration='none' text_shadow='no' padding='0px' margin='0px']CC image courtesy of TEDx GeorgeMasonU on Flickr[/custom_font]

Ep 191What I Learned as a TED Speaker
Stephen recently spoke at a TED event and learned a great deal about effective speaking. He also learned a great deal about how to improve his own approach to speaking. In this humorous but insightful podcast, he lists the lessons he learned and describes how we can all apply those lessons to our own communicating: 1) You Can Always Get Better; 2) Brevity is Best; 3) Clarity is Everything; 4) Flood the Senses; 5) Practice Sets You Free; 6) Packaging Pays; and 7) Know the One Thing. Ep 190Five Statistical Realities of the 2016 Presidential Race
The numbers don’t lie. Sure, they might change often or dramatically depending on unforeseen circumstances, but for the most part we can use big data and simple statistics to predict the most likely outcome of the presidential primary elections. Stephen does not profess the ability to prophesy by any means, but in this episode he lays out the hard numbers and the brass tax regarding what to expect from the remainder of the primary season. Ep 189Ode to Pat Conroy
No novelist has influenced Stephen as did Pat Conroy, author of moving, mystical tales like The Great Santini, Prince of Tides, The Water is Wide and Lords of Discipline. In this tribute, Stephen describes how Conroy’s life, themes and literary voice have shaped him. Ep 186Is Anger the New American Religion?
There is such a thing as "righteous anger." We should fight against injustice every step of the way—and with zeal! Yet what permeates today's politics is "easy" anger, that is, simply looking for a scapegoat and inciting anger for anger’s sake. Whether on the right or left, most popular talking points are more like finger-pointing. In today's episode, Stephen asks us to do away with this kind of useless animosity. Strong leaders lead—and rise above unrighteous anger. On February 19 2016, Stephen was a guest on Dave Ramsey’s EntreLeadership podcast, hosted by Ken Coleman. The EntreLeadership Podcast features lively discussions and tips on leadership and business by some of the top minds in the business, and Stephen was honored to be a part of it. Check out this special, hour-long episode about the story of the Guinness family and the beer that changed the world. You’ll walk away with some practical tips on how to run a family-owned business and the principles they used to win. Ep 184From The Archive: Men and Affairs
While the news cycle is consumed with Donald Trump and the latest happenings in the presidential race, there is another story surfacing in headlines. Men, prominent and accomplished men, are having extra-marital affairs in increasing numbers. They are destroying their families, their careers, and, often, the noble causes they have devoted themselves to through the years. Last year, Stephen recorded a podcast entitled “Men and Affairs.” It was widely discussed and helped a great many men avoid the trap of their own inordinate longings. We offer that podcast again this week, since we are eager to help men and those who love them transcend the ticking time bombs of extra-marital affairs. [button size='large' style='' text='SUBSCRIBE ON ITUNES' icon='' icon_color='' link='https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/stephen-mansfield-podcast/id433416409?mt=2?mt=2' target='_blank' color='' hover_color='' border_color='' hover_border_color='' background_color='' hover_background_color='' font_style='normal' font_weight='' text_align='center' margin=‘'] [custom_font font_family='Open Sans' font_size='11' line_height='26' font_style='none' text_align='left' font_weight='300' color='' background_color='' text_decoration='none' text_shadow='no' padding='0px' margin='0px']CC image courtesy of Joey Yee on Flickr[/custom_font]

Ep 183The Global Leadership Development Fund
Karl Marx once said something to the extent that we largely understand the world, but the challenge now is to change it. Though Stephen could not disagree more with Marx on most matters, he agrees with the mandate to change the world. The Stephen Mansfield Podcast has been changing minds and hearts for years, with almost 250 episodes. Now, Stephen is eager for those who listen to this podcast to have a chance to change the world around them. You won’t want to miss this exciting opportunity to make a difference. Ep 182“Tele” And The 2016 Candidates
Whether we like it or not, politics is about more than policies and laws. It is also about appearance. In a video age, there is no escaping the fact that a political candidate’s manner often communicates more loudly than his or her words. In this unique podcast, Stephen draws from his years as a communications consultant to explain how the dynamic of “tele” is hurting some presidential candidates and helping others. He explains how “bad tele” can be overcome and why it is a process that all of us ought to examine in our own public lives. Ep 181New Hampshire: The Quixotic and the Calculating
The New Hampshire Primary on February 9th, 2016 was historic. Though its results are not likely to be repeated as the campaigns move south and west, they still indicate permanent shifts in the American political landscape. After describing the numbers and the firsts of New Hampshire, Stephen also explains the leveling process that is happening in American culture and politics. He then urges caution. New Hampshire is “quirky” and results will likely normalize in the coming weeks. Still, Stephen joins in celebrating the wondrous, authentically American politics of the Granite State: New Hampshire! Ep 180The Simple Math of the 2016 Election: Part 2
In Part 2 of The Simple Math of the 2016 Election, Stephen continues to argue that the electoral math has changed in recent years and not in the favor of Republicans. The Democratic Party is 5% larger than the Republican party now. This means that a Republican presidential candidate must win a significant portion of independents in order to take the White House. Stephen argues that if Republicans want to win in 2016, they cannot do so from the extreme right edge of their party. They will have to appeal to the center. That is where most great public policy originates—Republican candidates need to get there quickly in order to capture the presidency. Ep 179The Simple Math of the 2016 Election
Politics is about many things and math is one of them. Sometimes, the numbers tell the tale. Though Stephen admits he isn’t good at math, some of the numbers that tell the story of the 2016 election are remarkably stark and simple. The bottom line is that Republicans can’t win in 2016 without winning a significant number of independents. This means their candidate cannot appeal only to the extremes. He or she will have to have "centrist appeal.” That’s a problem for the current slate of Republican candidates, and Stephen explains why in this essential podcast. Ep 178The Nobility of Preparing for Death
Only 62% of Americans have life insurance and 40% of all Americans suspect they don’t have enough life insurance. These statistics confirm Stephen’s experience in recent years. He’s witnessed dozens of situations in which death nearly impoverished entire families, in which little preparation was made for the most certain of all eventualities—the end of life. In this podcast, Stephen argues forcefully for the virtue of life insurance, wills, estate planning, and other means of preparation for death—particularly in the case of the death of the family breadwinner. Stephen also recommends Dave Ramsey’s The Legacy Journey as a guide making sure the next generation is cared for. Though he happily admits he is neither a financial planner nor a lawyer, Stephen fiercely urges wisdom, compassion, and planning for the certainty of death. Ep 177What Do the Candidates Know About Religion?
Time and again in American history, a misunderstanding of the world’s religions has led to disastrous policies. The lesson is that what our national leaders know about religion does impact our nation’s role in the world. What light does this shine upon our current slate of presidential candidates? Do they know what they need to know? Are any of them ready for the roiling religious conflicts that dot the globe? Or will these candidates merely repeat the errors of the past should they get to the Oval Office? In this hard-hitting podcast, Stephen once again insists that we must “Ask the Question,” that we must make sure that we know our candidates’ faiths and that we know what they know about faith before any of them step into the world’s most powerful leadership position. Ep 176Owning 2016
A new year is upon us. In this last podcast of 2015, Stephen offers a guide for storming the new year prepared for all it might bring. Though it is sure to be a year of challenges, 2016 is also going to offer stunning opportunities for those who are ready and eager to lead. Stephen explains how we can get ready to "own" 2016. Ep 175The Story of Santa Claus
T’is (almost) the night before Christmas: Stephen finishes up a two-part historical series on the lore and traditions behind our nation’s most beloved holiday. Ep 174The Story of Christmas
In our era of religious confusion and error, it’s easy to become confused about Christmas. Is it a religious fabrication? Did the early church celebrate it? Is it an invention of corporate America? In this calm, reasoned podcast, Stephen tells the history of Christmas and makes some recommendations for your own celebration. Ep 173Make The Candidates Explain Their Faith
Recently, politicians including President Obama, Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush have mentioned their religious beliefs as a basis for legislation they either passed or supported. Yet none of these have offered details about their personal faith. Do we as voters deserve to know what these and other politicians believe before they take office? In Ask The Question: Why We Must Demand Religious Clarity From Our Presidential Candidates (available February 2nd, 2016), Stephen makes the case for transparency in the arena of religion and politics. In this second episode of an ongoing series, he discusses the candidates' reactions to the Syrian refugee crisis, same-sex marriage and more. Ep 172A Principled Pro-Life Stand
December 2, 2015: It is the 336th day of the year, and as this episode is published, news is coming in of another mass-shooting, this time in San Bernardino, CA. It is (at least) the 352nd of the year, meaning that in 2015, more of these incidents have occurred than days of the year. Last week in Colorado Springs, CO, Robert Dear killed three people outside of a Planned Parenthood facility, in an apparently politically-motivated act of aggression against the facility's abortion services. Unfortunately, some pro-life activists have endorsed his actions in the media. Stephen breaks down the details of the Colorado Springs shooting, his case as a Pro-Life activist and the disturbing error of connecting physical violence to the anti-abortion movement. Ep 171Journey to Thanksgiving Part 2: The First Thanksgiving
In this special Thanksgiving podcast, Stephen simply tells the thrilling story of the First Thanksgiving. He recounts the tale of that dissenter congregation in England almost four centuries ago, the congregation that lived in exile in Holland for twelve years before sailing to the New World aboard the Mayflower. Do you think you know this story well? You’ll be surprised at some of the hidden details and moving side stories that Stephen surfaces. Listen to this podcast and then share it with others this Thanksgiving week. It is a story that delights and inspires. It is also a story with a meaning we need to reclaim in our own troubled times. Ep 170Are We Now in WWIII?
Given the recent terror in Paris, Stephen answers the question the Pope raised in a recent speech: Are we now in World War III? How do our present crises compare to the start of World War II? Of World War I? Stephen gives answers to these questions and offers wisdom for how we ought to live in light of what is likely coming in our world. Ep 169Journey to Thanksgiving Day: Part 1
In the first of a three-part series, Stephen urges us to look a little more deeply into the history and traditions of Thanksgiving— and to recapture some of those traditions for our own holiday celebration. Of course, he urges us to enjoy all the food and football we like! [custom_font font_family='Open Sans' font_size='11' line_height='26' font_style='none' text_align='left' font_weight='300' color='' background_color='' text_decoration='none' text_shadow='no' padding='0px' margin='0px']Landing of the Pilgrims by Michele Felice Cornè, circa 1805[/custom_font] [button size='large' style='' text='SUBSCRIBE ON ITUNES' icon='' icon_color='' link='https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/stephen-mansfield-podcast/id433416409?mt=2?mt=2' target='_blank' color='' hover_color='' border_color='' hover_border_color='' background_color='' hover_background_color='' font_style='normal' font_weight='' text_align='center' margin=‘']

Ep 168Time to Ask the Question
November 8th, 2016 is Election Day, which means there is almost one year to go. While the media has shed more than enough light on the myriad presidential candidates, one thing, for whatever reason, is lacking: religious clarity. Ben Carson is a 7th-Day Adventist. Hillary Clinton is a Social Gospel Methodist. Marco Rubio converted from Mormonism. But what do the American people know about the nuances of these belief systems, or how they might influence a person's decisions in the Oval Office? Ep 167Ode to Band of Brothers
The phrase “Band of Brothers” now has special meaning in our language. It comes, of course, from the Agincourt Speech in Shakespeare’s Henry V. Its words and its sentiments have echoed through the great battles of history and galvanized the hopes of both men and women for comrades who share life and struggles together. In this podcast, Stephen tells the story of the words “Band of Brothers” through history, and he does so on the anniversary of the great Agincourt Battle: October 25th. Ep 166On The Current Crisis in Israel
In the midst of a dispute over a site in Jerusalem referred to as "The Noble Sanctuary" by Muslims, or the "Temple Mount" by Jews, Israeli-Palestinian violence has surged out of control over the last few weeks. Stephen breaks down the details of the conflict in terms of how the West plays a part, how some aspects of the conflict have proven difficult for the media to explain, and how a misguided statement to the press by Prime Minister Netanyahu doesn't help matters at all. Ep 163Rape and the Self-Policing Culture of Men
It's sad but true: "rape culture" is spiraling out of control in our country. It seems impossible to think that on the campuses of the nation's greatest universities, an alarming percentage of women report some type of non-consensual sexual encounter each year. It's time to reach into the heart of the matter. In today's episode, Stephen challenges men of all walks of life to "self-police," or hold each other accountable. No man is an island—your band of brothers can help heal a broken culture. Ep 162The G.O.P., Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders
The second Republican primary debate has come and gone. While otherwise notable contenders like Trump and Bush swung and missed, Carly Fiorina showed up to win. Also, on the Clinton train, things are looking a lot like 2008—and worse. Finally, what does a senior-citizen, Democratic Socialist from Vermont have to offer to American Christians? More than you might imagine. Ep 161Building Healthy Leadership Cultures
Stephen describes in detail the context of his 2012 publication, Ten Signs of a Leadership Crash, in today’s political climate. There are common behaviors that almost always lead to a leadership crash. From four-star generals to small business owners, all leaders are susceptible. The good news is that tragedy can be averted. Read the signs. Avoid the crash.
